Random Question thread (FFXI related)

Or why can't you use the time the elemental is casting his first spell after aggro and just shoot it with Triple Shot?
I wasnt doing any shooting at all, which maybe is the core issue, if I focus on shooting for TP and let it come to me, that might be a good approach, might be the key.
If I do that, then I can use Arciela, because once the elemental is actually pulled out of the clusterfuck her AoE nonsense becomes way less of an issue.
She reliably puts Haste II on me, and then it becomes very easy to actually cap haste.
The hope would be that by the time I Shoot > Leaden > Shoot, and am primed to Aeolian Edge, the elemental is now close enough for AE to hit and far enough away from the other elementals, Aeolian Edge won't hate anything else.
This sounds theoretically viable! I'll give it a shot (pun intended) tonight, I really appreciate everyone's help here!

You pull the 1 to get your buffs setup, then do the next 3 in the 30s. You dont lose if you mess up one or two, you just need to kill 3 in 30 seconds, not a row, just any 3
Right but the AoE stuff also starts the timer, mind you, Im pretty sure.
So lets say I run in with full buffs up, start trying to self SC.
Arciela would then pop off an AoE which aggros everything else nearby and Im pretty sure starts their timers, so even if I zerg down and finish the elemental Im currently fighting, now arciela has hate.
She gets cured by the healer, and someone probably casts a buff on her or whatever as they do. Now the elementals have hate on half my team and their timers have all started.
If I try and book it to shed hate, Im pretty sure all those elementals are now "dirty" and I think their timers have been *** up.
But then if I run back to the room, I may not be able to even tell which is which! So I'd have to run to some other room to be safe.
It just adds all this brittle "easy to *** up" factor.
But I think as prior mentioned the plan of TPing via gun initially to pull the elemental out of the pack, solves pretty much all my issues! I'll see how that goes :3

Pull 1 > engage > get buffs > kill
Remove arc > either resummon so her TP is back at 0 or jsut get another trust, you have your haste II, you can also just not use arc at all, grab king instead for a longer haste II and a phalanx ontop of that
Proceed to kill the 3 within 30 seconds, arcs TP is either at 100~ or nonexistent cause she is no longer present, AoE chance is reduced or doesnt happen
If arc -does- AoE, ignore it, you're midway throguh your 2nd mob by now, eles are a nonthreat beyond their opening cast, depening on ele they have a few waste spells that either do nothing or take forever to cast; burn/choke/silence/blink/Ancient magic
Just tune up your sets and you should be fine

Is oshi still worth it for triple shot?
By Nariont 2025-07-07 15:36:30
If you want to eek out more chance, sure. Personally prefer to keep consistency with STP though as well as just a lot more DT/meva with malig, you're already at 79~% with ambu cape/job points/emp+3 body, oshosi+1 swaps put you up to 94%~. if you're doing arma AM3 the heads still great though

Not sure what you're trying to say there. Outside of arma AM3 build ,of which id only use the head anyway personally, the rest of the set aint worth the drop in DT for a higher chance at TS when you could just load up with guaranteed returns with a high STP piece like malig or emp+3 legs. Even with arma am3 i dont know if id push beyond the head though you could add in the feet for the crit rate but really depends on what you're fighting as to how much defense you want to forgo to get more dmg.

I'm a huge believer in max Triple Shot. The pieces you would use are the head, legs, and feet for +14% activation. Base rate is 40%, so with all the gear (and gifts) it's like a ~93% rate or so, basically guaranteed. It's a massive TP gain improvement, and with the Relic hands, you bump up that chance of a Quad shot proc by 50%. For the time it's active, I want as many triple shots/quad shots during that time as possible, as that equals more WSs/DPS I would be firing off before it wears. The more times it doesn't proc, the more I have to rely on Quick Draw or shooting again to hit TP. Personally, I consider triple shot not activating to be a disappointment for that attack round, and the extra STP I'm missing out on from Malignance/Ikenga's is more than made up for with the high activation rate, but just my preference.
I also don't care about tankiness during Triple Shot: it's a limited 90 second buff with a 5-minute re-use time (unless Random Deal), so my thought process is max dps during that window. Chances are, whatever I'm fighting up close isn't going to be hitting me too hard (if it is, I would just melee), or I wouldn't be without a healer or self-heal option anyways (/dnc waltz). In fights like Xevioso, COR relies heavily on Triple Shot for damage, and you're from afar, so you don't take damage anyways. In Sortie, you can Triple Shot and shoot from range certain bosses if you have buffs and fire off Hot Shot.
Just my opinion, Oshosi +1 x3 is <3 for Triple Shot

That's what I wanted to hear before I gave it up from my cor to my perma Cor alt
I remember it being awesome but the midshot set is also awesome
But for the original guy asking this set would be way more than you need.
Shooting has been an incredible tp gain experience in a whole new light playing with a alt Cor and no access to haste ii easily.
By soralin 2025-07-07 18:03:39
Just to confirm though: The triple shot gear only matters for when triple shot is up right?
What's ya'lls midshot sets look like for when triple shot isnt up?
I assume fairly similar to melee WS set, though Adhemar gloves are pointless so do you use malig?
It looks to me its 4/5 malig and empy legs, pretty much?
By Kaffy 2025-07-07 18:16:34
empy if you need racc, malig otherwise seems right

I think it really depends if you need DT or not. My Racc set doesn't focus on DT at all, and I prefer Ikenga in several slots.
Head: Same STP as malignance, with R30 it has more Racc, 70 more Ratk, and 1 more PDL, plus 5 SB II
Body: Same STP as malignance, with R30 it has 5 more Racc, 70 more Ratk, 5% crit rate, and 1 more PDL
Feet: 2 fewer STP than malignance, but with R30 it has more Racc, 70 more ratk, 1 more PDL, and 10 True Shot (if shooting at appropriate distance).
So...you'll end up with a massive boost in PDL, ratk, racc, and some bonus stats, and only lose defensive stats and a tiny amount of STP. My normal, non-triple shot, non-AM3, set is 3 Ikenga, 1 Malignance (gloves are a huge difference), and empy+3 legs.
YMMV, especially if you don't have augments, but even without augments...it's honestly pretty close.

Im only really focusing on this purely for this specific 4step self skillchain use case, so stuff like PDL/Crit dont hold much value for me.
Racc/StoreTP/DT seem to be the only stats that matter for just self SCing when triple shot isnt up.
Trying to avoid breaking the bank on this gear and just have something that works for reliably killing the elementals quickly so I can get this one objective done in sortie, really.

I'd argue it's extremely unlikely, especially with trusts summoned, that you will ever be even remotely close to dying to an elemental so the DT is totally irrelevant.
Ratk and PDL might not matter a lot, but they matter more than the *literally nothing* that malignance gives so...I'd say in this scenario, I'd still wear Ikenga body and head, even at R0.
If you want to save the gil cost of purchasing them or the inventory space I understand it, but I don't really see any reason to wear Malignance over Ikenga in this scenario if you have access to both. Malignance is just a worse version of Ikenga unless you're AFK watching TV while watching 5 elementals beat the ***out of you, with your trusts disengaged.
edit to add: I suppose Malignance does have more racc than R0 ikenga, but theres' no chance in hell you're not acc capped on Sortie elementals, let's be real.

Is there another way to play?
I may have missed it if you've already tried, but using Ayame to open so that you can hit a higher tp leaden salute isn't a bad option.

Pretty much this, I have been focused on profiting off odyssey chest runs instead of getting segs to get all my T3 unlocks so I dont even have access to ikengas R0 yet anyways lol
Too busy saving up for Rostam first :p

any trials as hilariously bad as Burtgang trials?
Atonement killshots, then 3 freaking Tinnin kills.
I know these used to be much worse as well...
By Nariont 2025-07-09 04:31:41
Nah, burt is just that special as every other ws trial has a WS that scaled up amazingly well when compared to burts dmg cap, godspeed doing those

What does this mean on the Blade Kamu page:
"According to the JP Wiki, Blade: Kamu has currently attack +125% and defense -25% modifiers. That translates roughly to a 3.0 attack multiplier"
How does that equal 3.0x?

Say your attack is 3k and the enemy's defense is 2k. Ratio of 1.5x
Kamu gets 125% increase, this puts you at 6,750 attack
Enemy defense is decreased by 25% to 1500
New ratio is 4.5x
1.5 x 3 = 4.5
By K123 2025-07-09 08:40:11
Oh it literally means +125% not 125%. Is this confirmed by non-JP? I am going to unlock it today, just realised I don't have it.

The Sagitta Dynamis-D Monk weapon... Su5.
Do Monks take path A or B with it, if they make one? What's the word on the street?

Do Monks take path A or B with it, if they make one? What's the word on the street? While I'm not keen on suggesting Sagitta in general, if one really wants it or has the means to get it as a quick upgrade without hurting their funds heavily I'd say Path A. MNK has a lot of Subtle Blow II gear access so Path B doesn't get a lot of value in the long run. Better off getting free extra damage on autos and capitalizing on a large Store TP bonus!

Either one is pretty solid, though Path A is preferred for reasons already stated. I'd sooner just use a karambit though tbh unless you lucked into a HQ (which id just sell instead to fund other things) it was a nice middle ground remaesque weapon before ambu got its last upgrade and aeonics costed some 40-60m and getting a group was tough.

Would definitely just use karambit
That money is much better spent on literally anything else

Now for something stylish...
What are all of the leather boot options? You know the palette swaps of Leaping Boots (or Lizard boots).
I know there's Raptor Ledelsens, but I coulda swore there was at least one other color... maybe two.
