FFXIV PC Specs
By Blazed1979 2012-02-23 02:37:41
Hi all,
My friends from FFXI and myself have pretty much lost hope in FFXI and are considering starting FFXIV together.
My current PC, which was a beast back in 2010, doesn't run FFXIV well on the lowest settings....
I'm willing to spend 3k USD on a new PC. Problem is its been a while since I speced my own PC.
Was hoping someone from these forums could spec out a beast of a PC for me within the above mentioned budget. You would have my gratitude and thanks.

You don't really have to spend a horrendous amount of money to play the game. I spent about $650 on my PC. With the game graphical engine being redesigned/optimized better in the near future I suppose you could consider this benchmark rather "lenient". This is the low version, I don't plan to play in 1080p so I found the high benchmark irrelevant, but it came to around 3100 last time I tried. (pre-overclock).
AMD Phenom II x6 2.7GHz (overclocked @ 3.2GHz)
EVGA GTX550TI 1GB DDR5 192-bit (overclocked core 1010MHz)
8GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM
If you're really worried about performance, you could just double up on video cards and run them in SLI mode:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130625
Or even try this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130593
Benchmark score guide: [8000 and over] Extremely High Performance
Easily capable of running the game on the highest settings.
[5500–7999] Very High Performance
Easily capable of running the game. Should perform exceptionally well, even at higher resolutions.
[4500-5499] High Performance
Easily capable of running the game. Should perform well, even at higher resolutions.
[3000-4499] Fairly High Performance
Capable of running the game on default settings. Consider switching to a higher resolution depending on performance.
[2500-2999] Standard Performance
Capable of running the game on default settings.
[2000-2499] Slightly Low Performance
Capable of running the game, but may experience some slowdown. Adjust settings to improve performance.
[1500-1999] Low Performance
Capable of running the game, but will experience considerable slowdown. Adjusting settings is unlikely to improve performance.
[Under 1500] Insufficient Performance
Does not meet specifications for running the game.

Personal opinion; Wait for FFXIV v.2 or you'll be left disappointed you spent money upgrading your system for it.

what are your current pc specs? i would think you could just upgrade your gfx card and be alright? unless your cpu/mobo are complete ***but based on the above i doubt that's the case.

For reference, when I was playing FFXIV I was running: 9GB DDR3 RAM, HD4870 1GB and an i7. I ran the game on high settings just fine.. I didn't max everything out, like ambient occlusion or whatever it was, didn't like the way it looked.
Even in towns, I had no slow downs or stuttering issues.

change GPU brand.since your flag says ireland, ill assume you're in dublin (everyone i meet from ireland except 2 are always from dublin) go into Peats (sadly i dont work there anymore or i;d hook you up) and get something other than Zotac or Gainward

That more then enough to play the game i have a 450 1GB and run the game on high with DOF :) you can do way better with that PC then i can with mines. Maybe at the start of the game it was bad but now all good video cards running the game fine but seem little overprice i can build that under 2k maybe it because your not in USA?

Yeah it is, depending on the CPU you buy, but that's 3x the cost of a PC that will likely have only a marginal edge over my $650 one by the release of FFXIV 2.0.
As for FFXI, it is overkill, I can record at 1920x1080 in front of a conflux with shadows on high and still at capped frame rate. Yours won't be any worse.

I wanna try XIV again but I just see the dev team pissing all over everyone's dreams and expectations again in the future like what happened with 11. Wish I had someones account info to try it before 2.0 launch though

Use Newegg (or Amazon), that place is ripping you off sick. . .
Personal opinion, if you're going NVIDIA, buy EVGA. Warranty support with them is superb. As mentioned I don't see a CPU listed, that should be the first thing you buy so that everything else you buy is compatible with it. I would say you don't need anything better than a i5 (Quad core preferably), I would recommend this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Processors+-+Desktops-_-Intel-_-19115072
Whatever you choose, if it's Intel keep in mind of the socket: LGA 1155 (this is the one linked above) to make sure it fits the MOBO.
And some Old benchmarks of mine, haven't redone it since I upgraded to a GTX 580, these were with my 570 and i7-950 @ 4GHz:
LOW
HIGH

That's very true I've noticed, I don't know any areas around there for PC unfortunately, closest would be UK but shipping may be a pain if it does go out there.
In that case, 2k is not 'that' bad for what's mentioned there.

I personally use a mixture of peats.com (although i go into the store, used to work there, still get staff discount), komplett.ie,overclockers.co.uk and amazon.co.uk. mostly amazon comes out on top for everything, even with shipping,so could give that a try blazed.
I remember I saved a shitload when I started building my new computer with amazon prices.
Intel i7 2600k
AsRock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3
Corsair Dominator 32gb RAM kit
Asus VG278H 27" Monitor (saved 250 euro,300 if you discount shipping,and I need 2 more @_@)
Dual EVGA Nvidia GTX 590's (post poned until 690's come out,but the saving on these was 200 per card at the time)

thanks for all the feedback guys. Although Irish I live in Abu Dhabi and the costs here are even worse than Dublin.
Funny how many times my ancestry has come into play today. I typed out the specs above while I was at the store using their cashier's desktop.
When I gave him back his desk he noticed the forum and said "is this like lodestone" ... 20 minutes later and he respeced my pc.
Ended up with 32 GB ram
10 TB HD
i7 950
Sli GTX 560 (pair)
Rampage motherboard and from a 24 screen to a 32.
and.... paid an extra 199$ for all that.
He also said he would overclock the i7 to 4ghz. That, I know nothing about.
Guess I will play on Bodhom and join his guild. Can't beat playing a game with your very own tech support.
EDIT: Quiz your PC is a beast :O

Sounds like yours isnt far off, dual GTX 560's are definitely an extremely capable pair of cards (anything 560 or above is),an i7 is an i7,regardless of fine tuning, series, etc (and overclocking in our cases lol) they are still absolute monsters.32gb ram FTMFW.
Just out of sheer curiousity, you're hardly one of those teachers that migrates recently because of the teaching boom over there? They're recruiting irish teachers with a €56k after tax net income over there, something that the irish government would have to pay them €96k net to match, which they cant do so all the teachers are *** off to Abu Dhabi lol
Quick edit:my pc isnt finished yet,I have some of it here sitting beside me,but sadly not enough to even get it up and running yet ;-;

I'm in marketing.
yeah we don't pay taxes here. cost of living is cheap (except when buying gadgets and cars).
But even on the things we do pay for, in the long run it costs less due to cheap service charges, really cheap fuel costs, cheap rent.
If you're used to dublin, heck even cork prices, you will be shocked at just how cheap it is here. Its not Bangok either, no offense to anyone from thailand. Things here are a lot cleaner than most places in europe. a 4 star hotel here is like a 7 star back in the EU. Its worth looking into if you can land a job here. Just don't ever take loans from banks. Defaulting here = going to jail till you can pay up. No such thing as bankruptcy.
I get my new pc wednesday. Will post benchmark results when I get them.
Thanks a lot to everyone. Went from looking for info to actually making a buy based on feedback here. Much appreciated.

got called in yesterday by the store. Pc was suppossed to be delivered today, might not happen.
While reading up more on SLI bridged GTX 560 TI 2GBs I read a lot of user posts on a site dedicated to Graphics cards.
The performance reviews were great. But I think I chose the wrong motherboard. As far as I know the rampage I chose PCI's are right next to each other with no area seperating which will mean that the 2x Overclocked GTX 560 TI's are going to be generating twice as much heat.
I have two options - I either change the mother board or I upgrade the cooling system or I use an external cooler (a 200 water based cooler fan) that I can position right next to my pc and just have the side dock opened. will look pretty ghetto and ***but will get the job done?
thoughts?
