FF7 Freezing
my gf and i are playing through the old final fantasy games and are on FF7 but for some reason the game freezes after the fmv part of the cosmo canyon planetarium cutscene. i was wondering if anyone knew of a patch to fix this or of a place where i could get a save file for right after, thanks in advance^^
what are you playing it on?
like which version of the game too basically put: the pc version is known to glitch and there's patches for a lot of glitches.
If you're playing on the playstation, I'd say get an emulator running, torrent the disc and play through it real quick on the pc (but this would require you to be able to transfer the save to pc) do you have a ps3 by chance? or I guess you could try your disc on the emulator, but like I said, you'd have to get your save file to the pc. (I forget that I have a dexdrive) oh dex drive... i found one at a media play before they closed. it's the only one i ever saw and it was 5 bucks. how i loved that thing.

do you have it running in compatibility mode at all? we tried xp compatability and 98 i think still hangs.
If you let me move in you could use my ps3. Just sayin' ^^;

qhimm as for a few interesting things: I've been toying around with virtualbox to try to get windows xp to have directx support but I've been having severe issues, some people have told me that they can get full support, but I can't get it to work properly. If I can get this to work it means I can play older games on a newer pc easily. (ff7 even has it's XP bugs, but less than vista/7, and they've been patched even if unofficially). (with this I could also get ffxi to work with multiple monitors and have fullscreen on both with multiple controllers and have it be like multiple pc's (from one pc). (wish I could get it to work...) there's a program called psxmemtool that lets you convert your pc saves to playstation saves and back, you could download the emulator for the playstation espxe, configure it, copy and convert the save file, load it with the playstation emulator get passed your section, then either play that way or convert the save back. if you don't have the disc I'd say get it or hell torrent it. Asura.Bartimaeus said: » Wasn't that one of the issues when ffdshow codec wasn't blocked in the k-lite codec pack? those things sound familiar but I don't recall the technical issues. so sounds right? Bismarck.Markas said: » we tried xp compatability and 98 i think still hangs. yeah compatibility mode sucks garbage hardcore, don't try microsoft's xp in 7 thing it doesn't do graphics acceleration at all. check out that site I linked, I'm sure it's in there somewhere, you'll at least need the XP patch, I think there's another vista patch too (you'd need both?). *** read this, it told me that things have changed:
this (forgot to mention to run it as administrator, but it says it there too, among other things) on another note, I'm glad that I just read that, I'll be doing that later. /happy start to a day
yeah Bart that sounds about right, I'm glad I read that.
(apparently my thirst for directx in virtualbox has been quenched now, it has now been delayed). Asura.Bartimaeus said: » Thanks btw. Every so often I get the urge to play 7 again, and this probably saved me a world of confusing patches and pain. :Bookmarked: oh as for dexdrive, I bought mine on ebay.
funny thing is it's a serial interface one, so need to use it on my desktop because I'm too cheap to see if a usb-serial adapter works for it. the drivers/software that the guy sent it with were on floppy, they didn't work (disks corrupted). as I was impatient (I send the guy a message, but he was taking forever) I managed to find the software on driverguide.com, probably an outdated version by now but still a great device. psxmemtool is a great piece of software (but you need to hunt down some .dll files to get it to work) I'm going to assume that I have them as mine works, but which they are right now I'm not sure. they're copyrighted is why they don't distribute them.
