it's the same damn thing every time. it doesn't go anywhere. it's the same argument with a couple of new faces. it's just gonna turn into nitpicking each others post without anything being accomplished. not that i look at the forums as a place to be productive... i just think it's stupid to mock and argue with people over their belief or lack of.
I've been only reading this one on and off and not backreading because I'm lazy that way, but I really haven't noticed it with this one. There's a couple differences with it.
Most religious threads start off with someone posting something dumb that some religious extremists did *this time.* Then non-religious folks jump on it and say "Look here, this is why religious is bad" and religious folks come in and say "No no these fruitcakes don't represent me, that's not how my personal faith rolls." And then we have a grand mud-slinging time until a mod comes in and chills us out.
This thread, however, started with a religious person saying "Look here, this is what Christians are supposed to act like, so please make an effort." Of course there were negative responses but it never ranged into the barbaric and uncivilized realm of name-calling and mud-slinging. It's more people exploring their beliefs and discussing things to understand each other's viewpoint better. (From what I've seen, anyhow, keeping in mind that I did not read all 19 pages.)
I had a relapse where I became uncivilized for one post. I apologized directly in said post however, and pacifism was restored.
Whether we like to admit it or not, ALL religion is fascinating in the historical, sociological, and psychological sense.
It's kinda like a really bad accident on the side of the road. At first glance it's appears just awful. But then you get into the why it happened, what can be done to minimize future ones, and what can we do in the aftermath.
Not saying religion itself is like a car accident... but it sure as hell can cause em, but so do other things as well.
I think I got a little lost in that metaphor.
It was still a wonderful analogy, and a stimulating thought.
Yes, I am going to continue to 1-liner reply to all the posts I feel like until I'm caught up.
Playing the RL card today. Worked on my truck extensively and my 2yr old's b-day party is tomorrow.
Well my cat who is 13.5 years old was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism a week ago. She's doing great with this new medication. Only probably is I have to give it to her every day for the rest of her life.
All in all, I'm not here to change Daemun's mind. That's not my job. I just wanted to point out to other people that while people like Daemun believe they're doing a service to the world, there very core idealogies are based on an idea that everyone that thinks differently deserves torture for all eternity.
So with that as his core principles, he's a gigantic hypocrite for making a thread asking for love and acceptance. Until he changes that belief, he'll never change any of ours.
That's the reason you get so much hate when you make a "thread of love" Daemun. Because it's like Newt Gingrich making a thread on marital bliss.
Ya it changes your perspective when you realize most of the old testament is completely inaccurate in it's translation and most of the accurate stories were borrowed from other religions.
Oh, I bet Daemun thought Jesus was real too lol:
The old mythologies were based on constellations. It's amazing that you're worshiping a figure that most likely didn't even exist lol.
You make a mockery of my belief (first quote), but the best rebuttal you have is this (bold)? I'm the idiot though, for having faith (a hope of things unseen); whereas you are certain of something that most likely didn't exist...
I never said the Bible was my words. I said many times my OP was what I took from its entirety. I hope that Christians can spread goodwill amongst the world, and stop judging people that don't share our faith. It isn't 'wrong' like you think it is. It is doing exactly what the message of the Bible says. Am I following the 10 Commandments? Am I following Judaic law? Am I following literally every word written in the Bible? No, no and no. Are those the things that make someone a Christian? Hell no.
EDIT: I'm very close to our pastor who is currently doing his second graduate stint of seminary. I know the origins of the text and the original document bases. Keep in mind most works of literature from before 500 AD spend a few hundred years in strictly vocal circulation before someone decides they are actually worthy of writing down. Do you think the texts of the Egyptians was written right at that time and was completely unmolested? No.

LoL!
Sucks, I feel for you. My two are only 2.5 and 3yrs. Both of them have been torn up by a much larger cat in the last couple of weeks. Both have huge knots under their stomach. They made it out okay though, so I'm thankful. Last girl made it to 15yrs and my mom's cat before that died at 21.
I thought it was pretty well documented that Jesus absolutely never existed, maybe I'm wrong and there are some bones and glowing rags somewhere being kept hidden by a giant spider.

Wow 21, that's insane.
I heard from someone that with proper care, cats are living well into their 20's now.
My cat is just plain strange. I've slowly been working on getting this feral cat outside to come in. I feed her, etc. She has let me pet her now, and let me hold her for a whole 30 seconds the other day.

If it was pretty well documented, why do any of the protestant religions still exist?

He was a strictly indoor, neutered, declawed Siamese. My 14 year old was an outdoor cat and we moved her four times. I really hope these two we have last a while, as I'm more attached to my new little lap cat Calico than I ever was any others.
That's awesome, I love making pets out of ones that start skittish.

The money and power.
How much more money could be made by proving he didn't exist, then falsifying evidence that maybe he did, and making people donate back and forth and buy into propaganda every time you made the flop?

This cat was odd. Got her when she was 3 months old back in 1998. Grew up side by side with my mom's dog around the same age. She was almost an outdoor cat, except when I came home. When I lived at home after college 2005-2007 she would stay indoors more. Now that I live alone with her, she doesn't even feel tempted to go outside. Just hangs around me all the time.

The catholic church makes a ton of money making people believe for one.
If he didn't exist, I would think anyway, that they wouldn't make nearly as much money.

My last one was a drop off and nursed a dog. She was outside, except for a while I let her sleep in my room. Since she trained outside, she'd wake me up each morning to let her out to go to the bathroom. Now I've got one that sleeps on my son's pillow and the other spoons with me, which works since my wife won't haha.

I can understand that, but with all of the churches in the enlightenment breaking away from the Catholic church, you would think some of the dissonance would have let the cat out of the bag on that had it been that much of a certainty. The Catholic church would of course try to squelch that, but word would have flown.
I'm calling it a night. See you folks in the morning.

There's a lot of evidence to suggest there never was a man named Jesus and that the new testimant compilation from Justinius was simply a redux of some of the other culture's mythos (put together about 300AD, and not made popular til later).
However, when I say "most likely didn't exist". I'm not saying "most likely there wasn't a messiah", as it's obvious there was no real messiah story. I'm simply saying it's possible that a man existed that attempted to portray the Horus mythos from Egyptian constellational philosophy combined with a Buddhist ideology from the East.
However, that's a stretch as most evidence suggest such a man never existed. Nothing originated about any messiah from that time period until Justinius's work 300 years after.. and even he dated his sources to be 30-60 years after the supposed incidents (sources we don't have anymore lol).
@Daemun - This information is readily available, yet education is not. Religion will continue to be widespread as long as education is limited in our planet (2% of the planet has college education, 5% have HS education or higher). Also, people believe what they want to believe.
Take this thread for instance:
1. We've explained several logical reasons why your beliefs are inaccurate.
2. We've explained that your religion didn't even start off as monotheistic, and your biblical stories are borrowed/stolen from other cultures, and mistranslated at that.
3. We've explained how there was most likely not even a man named Jesus and that the mythos was told thousands of years before that through 5 other cultures (originating from Horus).
We didn't even have to get into big bang cosmology data or evolution lol.
Yet you brushed them aside because you WANT to believe your ideology. You answered your own question and didn't even know it.
The world would be a better place if people followed those guidelines, you are absolutely right in that, Daemun. And people of every religious belief and of every background can and should be capable of doing these things. Loving your fellow man, regardless of belief, is something all of us should remember to do.
The world is a bad place because there're those guidelines , because there're the vatican and Pope.
You don't have to be a genius to understand how to retalation in everyday life , with the other people around you and in the places you're on.
The book they come from , well it made possible the born of the biggest "mafia" present in the whole world today.

Thank you for being the voice of reason here.
This is why religion is such a poisonous institution. Blind faith defies simple logic, and allows for social control and manipulation.
These are commandments in the Bible for Christians to act in our world. They were part of a lesson at my church two Sundays ago. I am not a fan of the 'if God weren't real' hypothetical situation myself, but taking that stance, let's look at the following.
Quote:
James 1:27-Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
Quote:
Ephesians 4:32-Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Quote:
Matthew 7:1-4-Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Quote:
Acts 2:43-44-Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.
Quote:
Galatians 5:22-23-But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Now, with those verses stated; I am no supporter of taking things out of context to obscure the truth of a passage, as you all know. I am not taking these things out of context to prove some hair brained, conjured truth. No, I am picking these verses as a challenge to all whom may read this that call themselves Christians. Do these things in your daily walk. If you do nothing else, do these things out of Love. Pure, unbiased, selfless love.
I think it is fairly safe to assume that theists and non theists alike can agree that if all proclaimed Christians did these simple tasks; cared for the orphaned and widowed, sold their possessions to take care of the needy, be kind and forgiving, be non-judgmental, and produce the fruits of the spirit: that each Christian would leave this world a better place than they came into it. Remove entirely the possibility of God's existence, or an eternal life. Simply look at those works, and the innate selflessness built into them. Would this world not be better?
With that said, here is my basis for the love message I have been so adamant about lately. It is also the basis in which I tie every facet of my belief and life unto.
Quote:
1 Corinthians 13-If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
This is the second covenant God created with man. It is no longer about following certain, strict rules for fear of hell. It is about a lifestyle that all thoughts and actions are derived from love. Doing things out of love for others makes those things not a sin. It is no longer the action, but the reason behind the action. 1 Corinthians goes on a few more verses to discuss love further. I think it would be good for theists and non alike to at least read up until 13:13.
I plead to you, community of FFXIAH, to hold me accountable to all things of these verses in what I do and say on here. If I am outside of the realm of these, please let me know and I will apologize and correct accordingly. I challenge all other Christians to stick to these tenants as well, and you can bet that I will (out of love) hold you accountable.
If you tl;dr, I'm sorry it wasn't worth your time. If you did read, I am open to your thoughts and criticisms.
