FFXIII-2 and WTF is this

Localization is to be expected as Square was not as expansive and regionally focused as they are today. It simply comes with the territory of being Japanese. And if the characters and plight of FF7 made you apathetic, I'm not quite sure what it was in 13 that lured you in. Cause I sure as hell wasn't convinced of anything. But alas, that's just me. Fenrir.Nightfyre said: » BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER You know, despite my gripes with the FF franchise as of late, the soundtracks have always been relatively well done and beautiful.
This however is the first real chain of sanctity broken. RIP Square-Enix. 24 years was a good run. As cute as the other songs are, 13 is a very unique and complex game. Critics will hate, but even the first was great regardless.
The Chocobo Theme, for that situation is fitting and well thought I feel. I would probably have to rate my favorites like this:
VI > VII > VIII > XII > V > IX > I > III > IV > II > X > X-2 > XI Haven't played 13/14 yet so can't rate it. Think... that's about right. Did it kinda quick though and a lot to think about so probably a few in there not in the right order for me but meh. Disregarding XI and XIV since they take on a completely subjective and complex genre and system of gameplay, my favorites are as follows:
VI > IX > IV > VII > V > VIII > XII > X > X-2 > XIII Still need to beat III on my DS ._. I don't have ADD. I play Final Fantasy for its story telling. Not for it's ability to side-track me from my goal and show me how pretty x-unrelated random generic crap is.
Ratings are always huge and wide apart, stories are misunderstood by more than those who actually got the plot. Ragnarok.Amador said: » I don't have ADD. I play Final Fantasy for it's story telling. Also you forget that sometimes it's the stuff on the side that ties together loose ends and fills the gaps in the story you may already be enthralled in. Like little easter eggs of discovery that help shine some light in what was otherwise shrouded in mystery. Subtlety of storytelling in an open world environment seems to be a lost art as of late. The story has to be good, if it isn't it is a failure to me no matter how good it looks. I hated X-2 and that made me hate X, it had so many things I didn't like about it. Considering the general reading level in America is 8th Grade, that's a huge one. It may not apply to you, but the people who tend to turn around and say they didn't like something. There's always a reason behind it, I know a handful of people who simply skip through things for pretty CG and Flashy Animations. Though I think the only time I spammed past important cutscenes was the timed mission to fight Ultima & Omega on the airship fight for CoP back before any of it got nerfed. (Reading amazing story) PT: READ FASTER ARTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank the Gods for Goblin Footprints. If they made books about the stories I would read them... they should do that :(

Square back in the day was known as the company with the hottest graphics are you kidding me?
They were the lead in all of it as soon as the PS1 hit. We are aware SE has been king of the graphics for their time and even in the current generation.
However, many years ago they were able to back up their capacity with worthwhile content. As of late... not so much. Would be cool if their studios expanded upon more stuff like they did for the Animatrix and whatnot. Anyone remember this gem? All designed by Square baby~ Shiva.Schatzie said: » Artemicion said: » Opinions will be opinions, but I find it strange you disliked the Materia system as it was one of the most creative and functional systems to come into an FF, especially for how relatively young the series was for just emerging out of it's two-dimensional plane and into a new set of hardware and standards. I loved 7's story though, taking out the mechanics of the game, all the problems and pros with trying new 3d graphics, and just sticking to the story. I think it was done very well. However, many years ago they were able to back up their capacity with worthwhile content. As of late... not so much. I feel that the games they have created since PS2 have been okay, I feel they were too focused on keeping up with the standards of graphics and loosing out on making a great story. The stories were okay for me, on the ones I've played, but not great since PS2 came out. In example? You can't really say FF1-4 had endgame content. They were as linear as everything. You can't say 5-6 had endgame content, if you missed out on doing and going back to towns you kinda kicked yourself in the shin and missed story.
7? What, Weapon Fights and an Airship that took you to the golden saucer to play games, Ultimate Weapons The truth is there hasn't been a FF game that has lacked end game content, however you want to paint it they're all fairly strict to the story regardless in terms of how you have to progress. It's not like it's FallOut3. End game content?
This isn't XI Either you're dancing around the point or you're making irrelevant excuses. Linearity is inevitable in a single player game as there is ultimately one way forward to completion; that's the nature of RPG games. However, the manner in which they let you approach that, with open world maps and choices therein is where it counts. Mass Effect would be a nice example of that. Generic Terminology is Generic.
Would you prefer terms such as mid game content? What I am stating is that the worth while content is the story, and the way in which it develops. Ragnarok.Amador said: » Generic Terminology is Generic. Would you prefer terms such as mid game content? It really doesn't take a rocket scientist, fanboy or devotee to see that. You'd see it's something they haven't done with other games.
There's a ton of story to 13 if you choose to read it. So much story, that it's now a 2nd game. A massive game. But, I haven't played XIII and have not given an opinion on it in this whole topic. I can't say if XIII-2 will be bad or not, I just feel a bit nervous going that path again when they didn't do so well last time. |
