Violence marred Black Friday shopping in at least five states, including a California incident in which police say a woman doused fellow shoppers with pepper spray in a bid to cut to the head of the line.
The incident happened at a Walmart in the Porter Ranch area of Los Angeles, police spokesman Officer Robert Chavira said.
About 15 people were exposed to the spray. Los Angeles firefighters treated them at the scene and no one required hospitalization, Chavira said.
The woman was able to pay for her purchases and leave the store before police arrived, Chavira said.

In a lot of stores the "deals" are just the same price shifted around. Instead of 20 dollars per pair of pants, it's 60 dollars for a pair of pants AND TWO FREE!!!
There was a vacuum cleaner thrown at my local Walmart.
As long as people are spending large amounts of money for Black Friday i'm excited. So what if a couple people get pepper sprayed or vacuum's thrown at their head? Spend money!

in a nutshell, it's the day after Thanksgiving when pretty much all the shops have "door-buster" deals to kick off the first "official" day of Christmas shopping season.

Canadian? I take offence to that! But yes we have Boxing Day in Britain (probably where you guys get it from), I don't recall things getting crazy then but then I don't shop much at all.

There was supposedly going to be a flashmob at Valley river mall at midnight thrown by occupy eugene :p I didnt even up making it tho.
I make it a point to not leave the house on Black Friday... I also try my damnedest to never go out on the evening before a major holiday. I'll go out the day-of if needed, it's usually not even half as busy as it was the night before.
