There have definitely been "Book" monsters in FF games in the past. I remember there being one in FF9 for sure, and there's probably others I am forgetting right now.

Trying to locate a pop for the book now so I can be beaten to death in the name of science. East Saruta is a bit of a big zone to hide things in D:

It's near water, which I'm just currently running through, the very western edge is about the only river stream I haven't checked yet D:

They can give a beetle a giant horn, but they still can't fix its right foot.

They're too lazy to give us rift locations also, and considering the zones are Saurta/Gustaberg/Ronf/La Theine/Highlands/Canyon, it's gonna be great fun finding em all :|

Edit: Found one in Saruta, it's at H-6.

K so, the book is MEAN lol.
Basic fight info: Seems to have high def/hp, hits decently hard.
All spells are instant cast, seems to favour -ga IV.
Also seems to draw in periodically, which sometimes happens to be before he casts.
Has access to Comet, all Ga IV, Holy, Addle, Slowga, Stun(ga) and possibly all AM (unsure if AOE or not).
Does not have any TP moves.
Has a really annoying name.
Hits me for alot more than Gooey to say the least.
Didn't get it under 50% before death to see how it changes.

Off to beetle next, which I'll reserve this post for fight details.
Rift @ H-8
Well that ended quick, he's very blatently a THF due to Triple Attack and stupidly high evasion and he has shadows that seem to appear after Rhinowrecker.
Has instant cast wind-based spells.
Highest I saw Rhinowrecker do was 1.5k, and it has huge knockback, unsure about debuffs.

Bastok:
Rift @ J-10
It's the pretty pixie, not instant cast and her magic isn't overly strong.
I saw her cast Fire IV, Stone IV, Blizzard IV, Waterga III before I died.
TP moves I saw; Lethe Arrows, Norn Arrows
Norn did ~1k or so.

The area to upgrade empyrean weapons, and get the new (95-99) gear.

Also the area to insure all players pull out their hair out when the mages get DD gear and DD's get mage gear.
