Nevermind that the whole world has gone to ***.

In my opinion, it was the attention, concern, and involvement in their childs life that made spankings work for the parents who used it. Someone who doesn't give a ***about their children isn't going to discipline them or be involved in their life in any meaningful way.

Really concerned how people are directly linking physical violence to healthy psychological development. Also I highly doubt our spoiled and worthless generation is going to completely fail at the world like our parents generation has.
I WANT to agree with you... no... I actually HOPE to see what you say come to flourish. But deep down inside... i know that the people who are successful in this life were actually raised with real parenting. OR alternatively... came from REAL abuse and made success out of it.

People with no sense of parenting will continue to do what they feel is right or wrong regardless of the outcome. Fighting the system, going out on chances or even against mainstream in attempt to rebel are the people who will never amount to anything other than arguing on internet forums all their life.

Sitting around and complaining about it on a forum will never get you anywhere... if you want to make an official issue within your state to make spanking your kid unlawful, give it a whirl and watch what happens.

You're probably doing more harm than good.
because Wikipedia is an absolute reliable source especially in raising children or even abuse of those.

God, read the *** articles Wikipedia references. RESEARCH IS HARD.

Also, in breaking news: Being 'socially accepted' makes it definitive.

Guess you missed Kriss' post? I'd assume (I know, ***-u-me) that indirectly calling someone stupid or lazy is chilling. You can have a different opinion, but there's really no need in getting emotional or heated. This is the internet, it really means nothing in each of our lives.

I'll never understand the negative stigma that Wikipedia has when it comes to information. If you don't believe the Wiki article itself, simple check the work cited.

It's absolutely amazing. Wiki a topic ---> find a few peer reviewed articles from journals ----> all of those include your references ---> you now have a list of 100 papers on a topic from which you can pull information.

The problem with Wikipedia is that people are absolutely HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE and don't know how to read more than a paragraph summary of a topic.

One that has your debt on record.. and will pursue you for that debt when payment comes due? Unlike this situation where you come up with XYZ excuses "Oh their album really sucked this time i'm not buying it." "Oh man i'm stretched for cash, buy this album i pirated or take my kid to the dentist".

Any further questions?

That is a binding agreement. Taking something without authoritative parties knowing, and making a 'promise' to yourself to make it justified later is hardly the same thing.

EDIT: Cin beat me to the punch.

Ninja Double Edit: Let's stop arguing over what defines a bad person or bad parent, and pursue our efforts discussing MW3 or Skyrim. Posting LOLs is always welcome, as well.

For the record I wasn't saying it was identical to the credit system. I was asking why it was so wrong. There might not be a record of the debt, but the end result is the same, one party gets the product they desire and the other is given the payment its due.

Actually, a few of my BO buddies say that BF3 is an amazing game. Alas, I cannot force myself to get over that absolutely horrid, bug riddled Beta I played. I never liked the first two either, which is a large obstacle.

I'm stuck playing CODs because I'm good at them, and like the fact that if there is artillery involved, it was someone good and not some noob that got to spawn in it.

I played the beta... operation metro.. was nothing at all... NOTHING at all compared to the actual game. I also found out that beta we played was 4-6 months old as they released it... and that their had already been plenty of fixes and tweaks even before the beta.

Why they did that with the beta was beyond me... but the full polished game is.... beyond words.

I would say you're not very good at delineating sarcasm in text. Either that or you're covering your tracks.

Wow, I didn't expect this to end up here. This is my news station territory, and we are buzzing about over this. It's really sad but we can't air anything yet because we can't get confirmation if it's really him.

We have talked to our station lawyer and hopefully the daughter will give us some sort of confirmation that it is really her parents in written documentation.

Also this video was created in 2004, it is now 2011. The stature of limitations have expired and legal action against the father is no longer possible, although it would get him kicked out of office.

From the forbes link

Quote:
Quoting Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Art. 12.01. FELONIES.

Except as provided in Article 12.03, felony indictments may be presented within these limits, and not afterward:

(2) ten years from the date of the commission of the offense:

(D) injury to a child, elderly individual, or disabled individual punishable as a felony of the first degree under Section 22.04, Penal Code;

I have no idea if that's what this is though, someone else will have to comment on that.

Statute of limitations is 5 years from date of commission of the act. Extension to ten years from Forbes quote shouldn't apply. As defined in that section of the penal code, a child is someone under 14 years of age. They would be hard pressed to make a case on the description of disabled individual:

(3) "Disabled individual" means a person older than 14 years of age who by reason of age or physical or mental disease, defect, or injury is substantially unable to protect himself from harm or to provide food, shelter, or medical care for himself. (source)

From the video, it appears that she's physically, even with cerebral palsy, and mentally capable of attempting to protect herself from harm (running away, attempting to block the advance of a threat). Being 16, she was of legal age to get a job and could have, if she were so inclined, gotten emancipated and moved out on her own and provided for herself the other qualifiers.

Note that I'm not defending his actions, just saying why he won't be held legally responsible for them.
