As for the concept of MW3 being the same as MW2 and MW1, the only thing they have in common is the engine. Graphics, guns, killstreaks, maps, perks, everything, has been changing erratically since the beginning.
And in defense of the engine staying the same through all the games: You don't see Coke or Pepsi remaking their recipes every year to try and improve. Sometimes you just hit the peak of what's possible and have to stick with it.

I agree, there isn't much you can do to improve a fast movement, multi-user shooting engine like that. Anything beyond what it is now would encumber the play-ability of the game as a whole.
I guess, but most of FPS "skill" is knowing the maps and spawn points well in my opinion. (learned by playing over time, correlated with ranking up)
That's more knowledge - skill is using that to your advantage. While being in an unfamiliar map is obviously disadvantageous, unskilled players barely use the map to their benefit.
Skill involves things such as situational awareness; gauging flow of the battle to know when to flank etc; accuracy; speed and reflexes; quick decision making; use of cover... etc.
Maybe it's just the marketing classes i've taken that has jaded me a little bit.
But i've seen so many dollar signs fly in this entire escapade and the game isn't even out yet....
MW3 Shoppers list (for 40 million people).
1) Hardened edition of the game (Free 1 year membership*).
2) 50$ 1 Year membership for extra benefits, discounts, early content.
3) Lots of Mountain Dew
4) Lots of Doritos
In short.. for a game release they just made you pay almost 200$ and this is only at the game release... Sure the "premium membership" covers DLC content... but do you really think you will pay all this money up front and never have to buy anything for it ever again?

I prefer not knowing the map. I stay alert 100% of the time when I don't. If I know the map, I tend to anticipate where I will run into people, and don't raise my guard until just before that point. I often kill my own killstreaks in this manner.

I really want to agree but I had all those skills from playing halo (Lv46 doubles) and they didn't transfer
To be fair though I might just the rusty because I haven't played fps hardcore in over 2 years
The difference between a guy with fast reactions / hand-eye coordination and a great FPSer is most often a combination of two things: Logical, tactically thinking mind. For example, not only knowing maps but anticipating multiple enemy strategies on the fly that variably change every second (potentially) based on the actions of your teammates and reacting and countering those possibilities. Second, a great sound card or sound system. This often goes hand in hand with the ability to effectively execute the first example, but needs to be said anyway. If you can hear and accurately identify actions that occur across the map you've already won.
COD's sound isn't actually that great, but yeah. It's also a game with a lot less variables than others. Most maps lack enough shadow to conceal a player and enough distance for a player to worry about someone shooting him that he can't see. I think that's why I actually liked World at War more (not that Activision or Treyarch will ever find a way to make their spawns on TDM maps work correctly. Most garbage *** system in any game) but because World at War S&D maps offered more than a mid range fight that I could accurately engage any enemy without optics or aimed fire (in real life)
I only wish they would climb into bed together to make a MW3/BF3 hybrid... they could work very well together on strengths/weaknesses but once Modern Warfare 4 came out they thought they hit a pot of gold worth milking until the well runs dry....
MW2... blackops... MW3.... There isn't even really huge differences....
other than blackops hardest story mode sucking a$$ lol, the AI for your friendly guys is literally HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE, they won't hit a single enemy but will fire unendingly. and the AI for the enemy has preternatural powers, e.g. i snuck around the missile launch level after a certain point so that I made no noticeable contact with the enemy and let my guys take all the aggro from one side as i got to my position to snipe these dudes, i'm behind a duct or something taking no fire, im laying down and ready to snipe the dude that is unloading thousands of rounds at the friendly npc, i wait for him to stop firing to reload, move out a tiny bit and bam head shot...i hadn't even fired yet and he shot me in the head, laying down, from like a thousand feet away with an ak47/74, when he should have had his full attention on my npc buddy and not even known i was there...
not sure if i want this game or not. I have played all the CoD games so far, and likened them, sadly the previous 2 games, stuff got... weird, joining games and the opposing team getting nukes in the 1st few minutes, unloading a full cartridge of ammo on to someone and not die, only to turn around and get a 1shot kill and other "odd" stuff happening :/
at the very least I will get the lame regular edition and no maps or add-ons

that, is a horrible game
You should play Combat Training with yourself vs 6-7 Veteren AI... They will stop and 1 shot you through hard cover having never seen you, nor having had UAV. I do this on Nuketown often. It will make humans seem pathetic to play against.
I just like playing COD to mess with the other team. When you get hate mail after the match you know you've done well :)
You are probably one of those people I call a '***'(no harm intended to actual gay/lesbians here) see: Louis CK.
I probably came across as a camper there (which I'm not). I just find FPS - COD in particular completely psychological, 99% of the time 'Revenge' is always on peoples minds, so I use it to my advantage.
It's just pretty easy to read people's minds on there.

I'm glad you mentioned this... When playing the Battlefield 3 Beta... i remember the first time i was hiding in a bush looking the other way and 2 guys walked right past me... no care in the world... im like oh wow whoa... how did they NOT see me.... and i came out and shot them both.... i then saw someone else crawl out from a bush and i had NO idea they were even there.
In Blackops... i would try to hide around a fence corner only to have a grenade thrown right between my feet as if the entire team knew i was there. Even if you managed to find a bush to hide in... you stick out like a sore thumb on call of duty games...

'Odd' stuff is normally lag-switches or hackers. Ignore that if it is in the minority, swap games if it is in the majority. I recently went back and played MW2 and MW1(prestige tokens) after hearing they had cleaned up the blatant hacking. I led lobbies from game 1 in both games. Was rather pleasant to watch hitmarkers come up when they were supposed to, and people to die on a correct amount of bullets. I figure you'll have a good 3 mo of MW3 before very many people actually start hacking it enough to make it broken. Once that's done, you go back to BO until the first patch. Play the system!

Ohhhh man.
You mean where... you kill someone... and they come running back to that spot ASAP to exact revenge on you in a rage like fashion... or stare at kill cams with vengeance so they can run to the direction you are running.
I can't tell you how many times i've killed someone in black ops... for that person to come right back rushing around the corner again trying to take a second stab at it just because they knew where i was....

Again, this is not necessarily a bad thing, though it's easy to "market" as a bad thing. Anti-camper measures like making your character do animations even when you're not moving have made it harder and harder for people to camp.
I know it's common to say that in BF3, camping is practically required at some points, but I think that in CoD games, it has no place. It's like trying to run and gun in BF3.

you decide to wear cammo~ your team gets shuffled and randomed into a map.... you get a guy wearing a bright blue shirt and a bright red facemask.... yay stealth

so fail.
1. This is why I never stop moving
2. I come back and kill people if they are hosing down an entire area or are making work of the team. I also know people think of revenge, and usually out-out maneuver them to get my revenge kill
I'd have to disagree with this.. Someone I used to be friends with was a huge CoD fanboy and he pretty much always had 1st or 2nd place, regardless of server or team he was playing on, he does what he does very well.. But he doesn't play with the team at all he plays by himself, for himself 100% of the time.
Did his teams win or lose though? How significant were his kills? You tend to find a lot of high k/d people have terrible w/l. Sure, he may have a nice record... but does his team win?
Yes, the team he's on wins a lot of the time, probably because he's on their team. I can't remember exact scores but if the average 'high scoring player' gets 30 kills and 10 deaths, he's doing more like 45-50 kills and 5-7 deaths.

Bingo, some people are stupid enough to do it 7/8 times and then send you mail calling you all the names under the sun. Obviously it's their own fault for having too much testosterone.

Insane. I've had 1 62-2 game and 1 48-5 game, but more often than not I'll consider a good day a string of 35+kill matches and -10 deaths

This a lot. Is why COD to me is psychological, stupid people are careless, and others as mentioned have a great sense of awareness and anticipation.
Quite a bit actually. BO is much faster paced and tight quartered than MW2. It's also much darker with 70s/80s weaponry for the most part. Very different feel to it.
Black Ops faster paced? The bullets doing less damage psychologically induces camping. So you get your ghost/second chance corner-camping noobcakes in Black Ops.
