GTX Video Card w/ AMD Processor
I just wanted to see if Nvidia cards would work with an AMD processor. I've only seen people use Radeons with AMD, haven't heard of someone using Nvidia and wanted to see if it was possible.
As far as I know, the cpu has nothing to do with the gpu, the only thing that should determine what setup you have in your PC should be the motherboard.
Hitoseijuro is absolutely right

And even then it was just the simple fact that AMD mobo's didn't support SLI for Nvidia cards. But the new 990 chipset for AMD allows SLI. I use a 1090t and GTX480 and have no issues as far as compatibility goes.
For SLI support the motherboard manufacturer has to have the board certified with NVIDIA (which costs ~$10k). Being the only AMD motherboard chipset maker and maker of Radeons AMD always include CrossfireX support as they like money.
Also worth noting that you can modify an AMD board to support SLI on the cheap.
I'm running a GTS250(1GB) and an ancient AMD Athlon X2 5000. (Overclocked, but it doesn't help that much)
Granted, this setup predates the ATI-AMD Merger, it actually wouldn't surprise me if AMD Boards had built-in bias for the now AMD Brand of Radeons. But it still should be completely possible. |
