Last I heard, people were getting arrested,

Were they arrested for violence? Or for marching around? You can be peaceful and still be arrested.

Quote:
having sex on the sidewalks,

And? I'm not advocating sex on public sidewalks but I fail to see how this equates to violent protest.

Quote:
speaking out about having to resort to violence to get the change they want, etc.. I wouldn't say thats peaceful.

Again you cherry pick and then apply it to everyone. Your going to say that all people who associate with the TP are entirely peaceful? That none of them have spoken about violence?

We've all seen/heard of nuts from the right wanting to enact violence on the leaders of this country? Does that mean we should assume that you also support this?

I know this is off-topic, but IDK. I'm not a fan of PDA. I think the worst I saw was when I was volunteering during and after Katrina and Rita. There were people having sex in cots right next to children. That was really weird and uncomfortable. I think they should have been arrested for public indecency, but that's just me.

Oh. I'm sorry, Flav. Are you a voyeur? Do you think people should have sex in an open gym or stadium among hundreds of other people?

I'll give Zahrah the benefit of the doubt and say she'd bypass her own judgements in the name of freedom if it came to that decision. I think that's just her personal belief on the matter. I could be wrong though.

Oh, I'm sorry, Zahrah. Are you a murderer? Do you think people should shoot each other in an open gym or stadium among hundreds of other people?

The argument can be used the same way... The fact is that a very minimal amount of people are going to bang in public. Just like people with guns shooting others.

Why are threads crossing? Flav and I already recognize we don't see eye to eye on everything, and we're fine with it. We can easily hop over to other threads to "shoot the ***" together. I'm sure he was able to pull the sarcasm from that himself.

This is the most peaceful, spirited, group of people I have ever seen in my life.

People banging in the streets? Sounds like Deinviduation to me.
Quote:
The Misconception: People who riot and loot are scum who were just looking for an excuse to steal and be violent.

The Truth: You are are prone to losing your individuality and becoming absorbed into a hivemind under the right conditions.

I'd say it's pretty likely that things that go beyond social norms become more possible when a bunch of primates gather in one place. :D
Tea Party or Occupiers...same thing. Conservatives stereotypically love their guns and Liberals stereotypically love to have sex with everything...makes sense to me mhmmmhmmm.
But stereotypes being an effective definer of a population as a whole? Not a thing but a chicken wing.

I am neither a voyeur nor do I think people should have sex in those places. I just think its funny that people want to be able to carry weapons around with em where ever they go yet the thought of two people having sex in public outrages them! It's just funny to me these days that people get outraged when someone tries to take something away from them but then wants something taken away from someone else.

So what is everyone looking to accomplish with this? I'm not totally opposed to some of the messaging from the ones who actually know what the hell they are protesting but where does this go? I still think if they want to protest, they should do so at the white house. This is obamas economy and he should be accountable for his failed policies that after 3 years, hasn't done crap for jobs. It's made it very difficult for people like me to grow my business and hire people and it is extremely frustrating.

A couple things to this.

1. People are protesting at the WH in DC also. It is not exclusive to NY, it is just getting the most coverage.

2. I don't think any of the demands will be met w/o these protests growing exponentially and spread around the country. It won't be until the gov feels a real threat of actually being removed will they possibly begin to negotiate the major problems. Big protests start somewhere which is why I'm anxious to see what will become of all this. Lastly to this, maybe a lot of the people are there just to make a point even if they don't have real hope of affecting change. Sometimes you have to try even if you don't think you can win. Strangely this type of attitude is often admired, but for some reason is looked down upon in this case.

3. For the life of me, I cannot understand how people such as yourself can have such a loathing for the current administration (fyi I hate them also) but genuinely believe if the other party gets power that somehow they are going to save the world. Dude, they are ALL corrupt. You think Romney or Cain or anyone else would do a damn thing in office other than keep us going down the same path?
You don't get to that position w/o selling your balls out first. Nothing will change, nothing will get better. Both parties are populated by the upper crust that have an interest in keeping us where we are.

It's going to be you and I that will make the changes, by whatever means it ends up taking. Not the walking puppet candidates that we foolishly place our hopes and beliefs in.

True but he is the president and it all falls on him. His policies are horrible and have proven to fail and he doesn't know what to do. He has no leadership capabilities. Everyone blamed Bush and for good reasons in some areas but nobody seems to hold obama accountable.
People slam Obama day and night so I'm not really sure why you don't think anyone holds him accountable.

Its like everything else though as when Bush was in office most pubs backed him and most dems slammed him as it is now where most dems support Obama and most pubs slam him.
