I actually love the idea of seasons in ffxi.
it could add a whole new dimension to the game and a new brand of HNM. High class NMs that only spawn during a certain season, and certain weather would be more common during their respective seasons, IE ice weather during winter. Personally i think it would also give players a little something extra to do in the game and could even help make trials a tad bit easier. id make it so the craters caused by ukko's fury dont disappear immediately
so. craters.. everywhere... I would incorporate sky gods in with the RoTZ missions, having to actually defeat Genbu, Sazuka, Seiryu, Byakko, and later on Kirin as part of completing Zilart. Basically I would have it so each person gets a "free pop" of the 4 gods just by being on the mission (just by talking to the ???), and then receiving a temp key item (only to the popper who is on the mission) from each one after defeating them, which when you have all 4 you can pop kirin. But then after the first time, if you wish to pop a god again, for more gear/whatnot, you have to pop them the old fashion way.
That way, people would be willing to help someone complete the missions because they would be getting another shot at some gear or seal. Sounded cool in my head. I would take anyone who has publically campaigned for open world HNMs to be reinroduced, put them onto their own server and increase every single NM's spawn timer to a 24-36 hour window.

Like Hohenheim said, there are NM's that spawn in certain seasons. They didn't go beyond that. This might be because the public didn't take great interest into these NM's they implemented, so they didn't go for HNM's as everyone would be upset, confused, complain, so on. I would personally like HNM's specialized in these elements that go beyond avatars. Jormy is a good start, but something beyond level 99. A real challenge for players that makes us consider maybe elemental resistance gear again for special attacks, but have an outstanding physical damage side to them as well. Something that just 1 party couldn't take down unless they are really experienced players maybe. Take out abyssea. Game is easier then WoW now. I liked it before abyssea, and would've come back to it if it wasn't so faceroll now.

A better more friendly mission/quest system and a button to watch the last available cs from the chosen mission (i start stuff and come back weks later it seems) or make the last received cs re-triggerable until you get to next stop

The game is riddled with quests. Most of them not worth doing reward wise. Before people were career jobs, less so now, and the only thing helps you tell if its someone's career job is if they have more than one gear set for it. Not out of spite, I just don't see the point of my screen rapidly filling with lines and lines of text I can't read.
The obvious new expansion with the places missing and I'd make the related missions on the same difficulty level as cop was.
