My retainer is currently full of various ores/sands/gemstones and I figure now's as good a time as any to cut down inventory via crafting. However, I've been unable to find any guides or suggested starting points and I'm unsure as to what sells/NPCs well and what gives solid SP gains.

So, anyone happen to know a good place to start? At the moment, I believe Goldsmithing and Smithing will cover my needs(Until I overdo Botanist and have to repeat the process <.<)

Here's the best advice I can give you, go to YG and do your research. If you know what skill you want to rank up, then go to recipes, list them all by rank, and start looking through the recipes in your range. Otherwise start searching all the random mats you have on hand and see what you can make from them.

What worked for someone else may not work for you.. Look at recipes 5-8 (8 is extremely hard to pull off, only do this on low shard recipes with mats that are easy to come by) ranks above you, you know what you have tons of and what you come across most frequently.

@Uce: Anything you'd specifically recommend, Recipe-wise?

@Slip: Thanks, bookmarked the link. It's looking like Armorer can push me further down the production line and possibly reduce space even further.

Are crafts subject to fatigued shattering like gathering?

No, you will get bad runs, but I've crafted multiple times for 6 hours+ straight and suffered no greater losses near the end that I did when I started.

Armorer is one of the easier crafts.. Make ingots, then make wire, then make rings, then make chain, it saves on materials, I'd have to go over it again to give you an exact example, but if you look at the armorer recipes and plan ahead, you can really stretch those mats, the same is rarely true for BSM, or really any other craft I've done.. The closest being leatherworker, which is turning hides/skins into leather, then into spetches/straps then into something else.

Start with leves to get to R10 or so. Certain abilities will make it easier, so at the very least I would recommend getting TAN, BSM and ALC to 10 for their abilities (Fulfillment, Maker's Muse and Preserve).

If you find crafting enjoyable and decide to keep at it, I would highly recommend getting CRP to 30 and then 36 for Assemble and Perfection. These two abilities are by far the best of all for ranking up, with Hand of the Gods (36 ALC) coming in a close 3rd.

As far as Craftsmanship, Magic Craftsmanship and Control go.. Each recipe has required values of each. Keep a Craft set and M. Craft set of gear. My experiences have shown that 1 stat will affect success rate while the other affects progress % and durability loss, but no one knows for sure. Don't even bother with Control unless you are trying to HQ something, it affects only Aetherial sparking, not element stability as some suggest. I don't wear any Control gear while ranking up and have no problems with most recipes ~8 ranks higher than my own. With each new recipe you attempt, try different variations of gear and see what gives you the best results and stick with it.

Also, as Psycho suggested, use YG as your recipe database and try to stay on synths that are above your level, but not too high. As you get more abilities, it will become easier to attempt higher rank recipes. Which recipes you choose depends on which materials you have easy access to, so it varies from player to player.

Good Luck!~

The mats you will always want to hang on to to get to 50. basing 20-50 as 3000 synths.
Armorer to 50
Iron Square These are made by Armorer (21) Iron Nugget (x3) Earth Shard (x12)
Might want to get Sheeting Training
Noting you can farm Iron Ore, Limonite, and Iron Sand with Miner 15+ easily, this synth from Ore to Nugget to Square will get you to 25 on its own. then 25-50 will be all Squares.
You will need 60,000 Iron Squares, 20 stacks of Buffalo Leather Strap 30,000 Earth Shard and 20,000 Wind Shard to get to 50 Armorer.

Blacksmith to 50
Iron Nuggets
and Iron Ingot
Again, you can farm Iron Ore, Limonite, and Iron Sand with Miner 15+ easily, this synth from Ore to Nugget and to Ingot will get you to 25 on its own. then 25-50 will be all Nuggets and Ingots
This time its 40,000 Wind Shard, 10,000 Fire Shard and 2,500 Fire Crystal

Alchemist / fishing
This will be the only way to get to 50 in most crafts if you dint have 100's of millions of gil.
The goal is to keep up on lighting shards and crystals the entire time
1-4 Brass Loach or Malm Kelp in any salt water waters.
4/5-11 Vongola Clam or Razor Clam
11-17 use Fine Sand to break all your Crystals except Fire and Lightning.
18-21 Box Turtles fished out of pond at Horizon.
22-30 Nether Newt fished from Hollows and Bone Crayfish Grade 3
Remember to switch to other fish when you get 9999 crystals or shards
31-40 money maker Crimson Crayfish R42 fish in Hollows. To fish up a lot of these, you need to be R32+ fisher
These turn into 6 wind shards a piece, meaning 1 fish + 2 lightning Crystals + 6 Fine sand= 96 shards. Wind Shards sell 120-160 a piece in wards, or 10k to 15k per fish.
From 40-50 is tricky, only good synth is Boar leather Dye. The linseed oil is made from a prime weaver item and the Bugs for the dye are Mined in grade 5. you will need 1000+ bugs, 6000 Wind Shards and 2000 Lightning Shards to get to 50.

Woodworking to 50
2-10 Lauan Half Mask x1→ Ice Shard x1 + Wind Shard x1 + Lauan Lumber x1 NPCs for 280+ Gil.
11-20 Willow Half Mask x1→ Earth Shard x2 + Wind Shard x2 + Willow Lumber x1 NPCs for 630+ Gil.
21-30 Oak Half Mask x1→ Earth Shard x3 + Wind Shard x3 + Oak Lumber x1 NPCs for 980+ Gil.
31-40 Yew Half Mask x1→ Ice Shard x4 + Wind Shard x4 + Yew Lumber x1 NPCs for 1330+ Gil.
41-50 Walnut Mask x1→ Ice Shard x4 + Wind Shard x4 + Walnut Lumber x1 NPCs for 1,505+ Gil.
The crystal amounts needed are to get Woodworking to 50 are the 2nd least needed only bested by Alch because Alch is making the Crystals.
You will need 9,000 Wind Shard, 8,000 Ice shard and 2,000 Earth Shard

Weaver to 50
Starting at R2
You will need 2000 Cotton Boll and Lightning Crystal to get the 12,000 or 120 stacks of Cotton Yarn to get to 40.
You will also need around 27,000 Earth Shard
You might want Weaving Training book
The steps are
2-11 Cotton Yarn
12-20 Undyed Cotton Cloth
21-30 Undyed Canvas
31-38 Undyed Velveteen
The next set
39-41 500 Flax into Linen Yarn
42-50 is 1000-1500 synths making Undyed Linen

I am r48 BSm from r46-r48 i went through 8 stacks of ingots 4 stacks of iron nuggets. i dont even know how many stacks of iron ingots it was before my LS mates and i turned them into ingots. just last night alone i spent little over 1mil on iron ore, sand, limonite and fire shards. so i have 27 stacks of iron nuggets that i have to turn into ingots. then i have 10 stacks of iron ore to turn nuggets for my grind.
