5.8 is a "Big Deal" on the East Coast? Out here (California) we don't get uppity over anything smaller than a 7.1.
An earthquake in general is a big deal over here, lol. We barely get any natural disasters >_<

the last and only one I remember was more than 10 years ago and it was like a 1.0 so it kinda was a big deal. And yes that quake even made the news/newspapers here.
lol, felt it in NC as well. First time I ever felt an earthquake (lived in FL til about a year ago). I thought it was just someone upstairs using the treadmill (usually makes my room shake, though not quite that hard so I was kinda wondering).
We just felt it here in NY. So far cellular service is dead.
also sev lives in nc? =D /stalk

House shook, dishes and windows rattled. Bahamut.Enkidou said: » Odin.Zicdeh said: » 5.8 is a "Big Deal" on the East Coast? Out here (California) we don't get uppity over anything smaller than a 7.1. Sounds pretty uppity to me. Only if you're overly defensive. I was just generally curious, because the East Coast sits on a hotbed of geological activity like the west coast (Both convergences of tectonic plates). I had no idea that quakes were so uncommon there. I'd still take a quake over a Tornado any day though. Cerberus.Sey said: » We just felt it here in NY. So far cellular service is dead. Good thing i don't live in Manhattan anymore. I felt it in PA. It freaks me out lol
MSNBC has it upgraded to 6.0 atm
Been hearing reports from Columbus, OH of feeling it, too.

Maybe we'll have more death winds =D so many nc ffxiahers! /shame
I didn't feel anything and I'm from Eastern Michigan =< (by Detroit)
of course I didn't feel the last 2 earthquakes Michigan had... =< The worst we typically get here in MD are remnants of hurricanes and really bad blizzards. This is the first earthquake I've ever felt.
its because nc is the best state
also on topic, i'm sad that i missed it ; ; Cerberus.Irohuro said: » its because nc is the best state also on topic, i'm sad that i missed it ; ; Lakshmi.Sirafiinikkusu said: » did anyone else near baltimore maryland/DC just feel this? i havent felt an earthquake like for years edit: topic title near DC* what the ***, you live here? Pretty strong quake outside the ring of fire, quite rare I'd think.
Yeah, felt it here in virginia beach. Was wondering why everything was wiggling.
Odin.Tsuneo said: » Felt it in Philadelphia. Not sure why so many people 15 minutes down the road had their house a rockin' yet I didn't feel a thing.
The Earthquake is intimidated by Enkidou's presence. Also, people dont quite understand how earthquakes affect different regions, i've lived in san diego california for a number of years and im familiar with how they feel there, but with how the plates are, on the west coast its constantly bashed by earthquakes so the crust over there is as soft as an easy bake muffin, the shake will be dissipated much easier over there, also not to mention buildings are built with earthquakes in mind. on the east coast its a 180, since we dont get many if any at all, the crust here is hard as a gingerbread cracker, so subtle things such as this borderline 6.0 will do alot of dmg especially since buildings arent built with earthquakes in mind.
