just a quick question what is the difference between the firefox addons noScript and adblock plus if any? Do they do different things or same thing in different ways?

Hey Heim, and I think the only difference is that ABP provides a more powerful engine that you can point and control the content you want to see, while no script just prevents ads and replaces the frame with a no script logo thing and you still see the box.

I'm not really sure I'd describe it like that.

ABP and noscript do different things.

In terms of use, you can see (almost) no adds using noscript, it just depends on what you blacklist. Depending on the setting you have in place, no script can block all elements on a page that can contain executable code. This includes javascript, iframes, frames, flash, silverlight, java etc.

Adblock plus is a app that focuses on blacklisting known advertising sources, it has a very specific function, and does that function well.

They block two different semi-overlapping sets, but work well together.

For instance, ABP can block ads that run in scripts you allow to run through noscript (such as an online video), while ABP cannot block malicious iframes or other apps (but noscript can), like the early stuff that hit somepage.

The best way to learn how to use them is to use them. Noscript's broader functionality takes a while to get used to, while abp is fairly easy that mostly requires just simple toggling for website you wish to receive ads from. I would suggest running them in tandem, as they can cover the holes the other addon leaves behind.

it's probably dead. in any event i haven't had to use it in like 6 years, there's no reason to risk going there.

Sorry was afk, and if you try ABP you should try the addon the developer made as well. You use hot keys on the keyboard to expand/shrink the target area for tricky ads you don't want to see.
