RDM Job Manifesto
Phoenix.Fondue said: » jafah was the only person who played sch in brix lol /shudder SCH takes like, a TON of macros and gear to play it well. I like scholar and all, its different for the way it plays, I just wish I could stop being lazy and write better macros for it, lol.
Amen to that, my sch spellcast is disturbingly complex, what with all the job-ability specific gear the needs to be on during the casting of a spell.

Ugggggg Rdm/sch macros take up 2 books only job combo I have for my jobs that needs 2 books spent a good 6 hours having to write ***out so glad I discovered spellcast. Still didn't fix needing two books but at least it's only 1 whole book and and about another 6 sets I guess?

Since I had limit gear/macros pressing 3 macro just for gears was fun ;p Set 1+2 is Dark arts, set 3+4 is Light arts (hitting the macro switches me between both), elemental/status barspells on different sets, -Na spells/Erase on own set, Strategems/Storm Spells/Klimaform I can't cast on seperate book. Not two whole books for /Sch, 1 and 1/4 I'd say.

Red Mage Spontaneity (Lv. 95) Reduces casting time for the next magic spell the target casts. Gain-STR (RDM Lv. 93) Enhances Strength. Temper (RDM Lv. 95) Grants the ability to occasionally attack twice. Raise II (RDM Lv. 95) Thunder IV (RDM Lv. 92) Maybe there will be a Job Adjustments Part II... with my precious Cure V... maybe... unlikely...
This has me even more excited for melee possibilities. Temper + Gain-STR, I'll take it! Now if they could just elaborate on these "WS adjustments" a bit more...
It won't since Sch main can't accession it iirc.
Am I a selfish person if I say I'm glad some of those spells are self-only?
Cerberus.Rayik said: » Am I a selfish person if I say I'm glad some of those spells are self-only? If the occasionally attack twice spell isn't self-only....then RDM will be the new Haste/Temper ***. Atleast it's not Refresh I guess... Temper, assuming it's not self-targeted only, should be a nice boon to RDM's Enhancing capabilities (and also something to mollify the meleetard RDMs). Temper would fit nicely within SE's stated vision and direction for the job.

Asura.Eeek said: » Oh come on, 98% of melee RDMs are thoroughly awful and everyone knows it. Go level BLU. BLU is a different job. If I want to play a BLU, I'll level BLU. Don't sell us all short because of some crap players. Idiots are not job-specific. You consider yourself one of the non-idiotic melee RDMs? Your posts on the SE RDM forums suggest otherwise.
I've seen, on forums and in-game, a total of two melee RDMs that knew what they were doing. I sell melee RDMs short because the vast majority of them have no concept of how to properly gear a melee or even know when it's appropriate to melee on RDM in the first place. If you're looking for meleeRDM circlejerking, I'd imagine this isn't the best place. This forum specializes in misguided RDM discussion and general tips on how to doitrong on RDM. EDIT: Siren.Kunimatsu said: » Temper could be the, "Different type of enspell" they were talking about. While I don't put it beyond SE to do something stupid like making Temper self-target only (evidence: THF), Temper could also stem from this comment in the RDM manifesto: "Since enhancing magic is an area that red mages excel at, we would like to add something. We have been receiving a lot of ideas for enhancing magic and we will be keeping them in mind when exploring this subject." Asura.Eeek said: » You consider yourself one of the non-idiotic melee RDMs? I consider myself a "work in progress." Since you're bringing up the infernal RDM Civil War going on over there, let me remind you that in many of my posts, I flat out say my gear and sets are gimp and not complete, and I'm looking for ways to improve and make it work. I'm not an idiot. I know melee is suboptimal and not welcome in the current state of the game, hence, why I'm happy to see SE tossing us some spells and WS adjustments to help out. That civil war is only infernal because so many of the RDMs that post on the SE forums desperately want to melee and seem to have little idea how to gear and play RDM as a proper mage. I've never viewed FFXI's RDM as a magical swordsman, but I suppose that's because I started playing in 2006 and I tend to view jobs as they are - not as I want them to be. RDM is an outstanding generalist mage, and assuming Temper isn't limited to self-target, RDM is on its way to becoming an even stronger mage.
I'll melee on Rdm more seriously when I finish Almace (only use it solo most of the time). Ofc you can outmelee gimps with Twilight Knife but you could do that with a staff spamming Full Swing, so I stopped caring. That and no Zelus tiara makes me sadface, can't even melee with Dual wield ACP body I augmented :/

They might have a better idea of how to gear if some actual discussion could take place, instead of job-fascists shooting them down with "lol" and adding nothing to the conversation other than "I'm better at the job because I ignore a huge portion of it." Instead of just making condescending remarks, how about we help look for positive means of making the melee play style better? It is an actual play style, and a part of the job, like it or not. Screaming down at people and forcing one's own play style isn't helpful. Some RDM's want to use a sword, so let's work on ways we can make that viable? Where's the harm in that? |
