I didn't know that students were this hard up!

Like Irohuro said, seeking higher education in Europe is significantly less expensive for those who have the mental capability to go that route. They also have better education standards overall!
It's just a sad state that, in the US, we pay such a ridiculous amount that some women see this as an alternative. It's also sad that a country that doesn't rank well in international standards of education has such a high cost for tuition. I was surprised by how many top ranking universities were included in this.
Quote: At The Huffington Post's request, Seeking Arrangement listed the top 20 universities attended by sugar babies on the site. They compiled the list according to the number of sugar babies who registered using their .edu email addresses or listed schools' names on their profiles. New York University tops the list with 498 sugar babies, while UCLA comes in at No. 8 with 253, and Harvard University ranks at No. 9 with 231. The University of California at Berkeley ranks at No. 13 with 193, the University of Southern California ranks at No. 15 with 183, and Tulane University ranks at No. 20 with 163 college sugar babies.
Do people have such short memories? Does anyone else remember this little uproar British Student Protests Turn Violent? Granted, this became out of hand. Still, the US just "bends over and takes it" because that is all we ever known, whereas Europe is willing to fight to keep tuition rates at a decent rate where there is no need for women to prostitute theirselves for an education.

I remember reading something about women offering up sex for gas money when prices were through the roof awhile back... not really surprised that students would do this to pay off thousands of dollars in student loans...
So how is this new again? Hell I'm currently looking for a Sugar Momma...

Hmm considering I spent for my entire Master's program a measly 18k USD (1.5 yr program) with a 12 hour thesis requirement for my program in Greece put me at 2 years , and for undergrad I paid like 12k/year at a private accredited American University.. and there are tons around there like that and some even cheaper. U. of Indianapolis has about half that cost per year not including room and board. Course the Euro kicks any currencies a@@ at the moment..and these are the current 2010-2011 year prices...
After hearing and reading all these posts I realized I am glad I quit working 4 yrs ago to get my education done and I am over the 35 year old mark:P

How do you figure? The top performers in the U.S. get full ride scholarships, can't get much cheaper than that. Also, being as we are talking about college what study are you looking at (link please) that shows Europe with a higher quality of education? Every study I've ever seen shows America as top notch for graduate and post-graduate studies.

How about higher taxes to pay for your tuition like in Europe?
Volkom and I had discussed this on a previous thread. Both of our parents make enough to barely skirt the lines of financial aid leaving our parents and us to still foot the bill for our tuition that we, realistically, still can't afford without some assistance.

I should have clarified that the bolded portion had nothing to do with the collegiate world.

Seriously! We should make it public! Then our private schools could be ranked as highly as our public schools! Wait... something's not right there...

Interesting... how do they handle rankings for the entire institution? Most of the schools I know are like top 5 in the nation in X but like bottom of the barrel in Y kind of a thing. How do they average it all out?

My college, Seton Hall, is 136... But don't let them fool you. Its about as suburban as you can get 1 minute from Newark. What a joke listing it as suburban.

I've always wondered that too. So many schools have strengths and weaknesses.

I found their methodology on the site. It's... less than scientific.

I'm in a specialty school, so mine isn't on there. Doesn't mean much to me though. Reputation holds the name up, and for good reason. Bloody hard school, but I love it~ New York is so expensive though haha hate that.

Wasn't worth a dime.
Long article, but wow! I know there are girls that strip their way through college, but I was pretty shocked when I read this!
College Students Using "Sugar Daddies" To Pay Off Student Loan Debt
Quote: Saddled with piles of student debt and a job-scarce, lackluster economy, current college students and recent graduates are selling themselves to pursue a diploma or pay down their loans. An increasing number, according to the the owners of websites that broker such hook-ups, have taken to the web in search of online suitors or wealthy benefactors who, in exchange for sex, companionship, or both, might help with the bills.
The past few years have taken an especially brutal toll on the plans and expectations of 20-somethings. As unemployment rates tick steadily higher, starting salaries have plummeted. Meanwhile, according to Jeffrey Jensen Arnett, a professor of psychology at Clark University, about 85 percent of the class of 2011 will likely move back in with their parents during some period of their post-college years, compared with 40 percent a decade ago.
Besides moving back home, many 20-somethings are beginning their adult lives shouldering substantial amounts of student loan debt. According to Mark Kantrowitz, who publishes the financial aid websites Fastweb.com and Finaid.org, while the average 2011 graduate finished school with about $27,200 in debt, many are straining to pay off significantly greater loans.
Enter the sugar daddy, sugar baby phenomenon. This particular dynamic preceded the economic meltdown, of course. Rich guys well past their prime have been plunking down money for thousands of years in search of a tryst or something more with women half their age -- and women, willingly or not, have made themselves available. With the whole process going digital, women passing through a system of higher education that fosters indebtedness are using the anonymity of the web to sell their wares and pay down their college loans.
"Over the past few years, the number of college students using our site has exploded," says Brandon Wade, the 41-year-old founder of Seeking Arrangement. Of the site's approximately 800,000 members, Wade estimates that 35 percent are students. "College students are one of the biggest segments of our sugar babies and the numbers are growing all the time.
Quote: Seeking Arrangement is hardly the only website with a business model that revolves around the promotion of sugar daddy and sugar baby relationships. More than half a dozen websites advertise such services.
For instance, SeekingTuition.com offers college students "who need that special education from wealthy benefactors. Find that special someone to help you with books, dorm, rent or tuition today!" Meanwhile, SugarDaddyMeet.com defines a sugar baby as an "attractive and young woman. Beautiful, intelligent, and classy college students, aspiring actresses or models."
Quote: When Barb Brents, a professor of sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, conducts research in various legal brothels in the state, she finds women hailing from a variety of different backgrounds. "The women tend to be from working-class or middle-class backgrounds, but a good number are from upper-class families, too," she says. Brents often finds that women turn to sex work when, in their professional lives, they're unable to make ends meet.
