Some of you might remember me asking a few weeks ago if I would be able to play this on my PC and helped me out with a few things. Basically found out that even though I was above the min specs it would not play for me.

Well today I got bored and was messing around trying to see if I could get it to work... Added 1g of ram in the process.

What I found out to be a major issue of my problem is my PC setting the Final Fantasy XIV process to low priority. Basically lagging me out at any graphical setting.

Is there any work around on this where I can lock the FFXIV process (in windows 7) to a higher priority? I might just be able to play on mid-low settings If I can figure out how.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think there is anyway to keep it up there using normal tools or configs. You can change it but each time it starts you'll have to change it again and there may also be events that will bump it back down. I'm fairly sure there are 3rd party apps that can do it. I seem to recall hearing about a few. Process lasso I think is one of them that works with 7 but you may search around for some as I can't vouch for this program. I've never used it.

I'm not familiar with this, but would right-clicking the process and setting the priority in Windows task manager not work?

It auto-changes it back.

Ok so could you guys help me out with what would be the best settings to run my windows 7 / screen resolution etc at?

I need to clean up the bloat out of win 7. Does anyone have a guide to do this?

Would OCing my graphics card help at all? My mainboard is bios locked so I cannot increase my CPU speed.

I can top out at 4g of ram, 3.5 atm if I want to spend another $30 on a DDR stick.

Overall yes I know the best thing would be to buy a new PC. But I cannot afford it right at the moment. Saving for one, just can't for a while. So I am trying to make this work as well as it can until I can make major upgrades in a new system..

Here are my base specs if they help anyone in providing advice.

OCing your video card might help you considering how low end your stuff is. Just make sure you don't overheat it.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_9500gt_us.html

Shows a threshold of 105C, I would say keep it under 90C while gaming. Use MSI Afterburner to OC it.

Are you running your RAM on Duel Channel? That would help also.
Both of these suggestions would provide minimal if any gains for you. Hopefully though that would be enough.

looks like you mobo is not readdressing memory since you only have 3.2gb available memory,

check that in you bios.

also do you only have 3.5 physical memory in the system ? cause the would defiantly points at you are not running you memory in dual-channels since 3.5gb is not able to be equally divided on both channels.

Is FFXIV 64bit programs oe at least large_memory_address flaged ?
if not its not gonna utilize more then 2g anyway, thats a windows 32bit architecture limit per process.

ruining the game in low priority is not gonna change much unless you have something eating up your cpu. remember its a priority not a limit that's why its called priory, so if there is no other programs to take cpu cycle from it it still get its cpu cycles.

and if ffxiv has th same behavior as ffxi then its only when you are out of the game it goes to low priority which makes good sense.
since you aren't using the game it frees up is cycle to other programs you might be using.

Yes I have 3 1g and a 512 stick. mobo's max is 4 1g sticks... How do I check to ensure that I am running dual channel?

Large_memory_address flaged?.... Explain this to me please.

Sorry guys, I know just enough to get myself into trouble but not enough to figure out what I screw up.

Looks to me like most Anthlon cpu's are dual, triple, or quad cores.
If it's a single core thats one old cpu. XD

But yea, answer me this.... Athlon 64 4000+ 2.6mhz vs. 64 dual core 4000+ 2.2mhz... For FFXIV does the second win? All other variables equal that is.

I might be better off to play on the wife's PC.

the only real probs your goin to run into being on the lower end of the min requirements is if you have a monitor over say 19in. i just upgraded from a 9800gt to a gts450. had to run on really low settings with res set to 1920x1080 with the 9800gt. gave my old card to my brother so he could start playin 14. game runs sooooooo much smoother on his pc than it did on mine because he only has a 17in monitor. his pc is about the same spec wise as yours other than he has socket939 dualcore running at like 2ghz

Yea... 21" monitor here... ; ;

But in any case, I can somewhat play on low settings a *** around until I can fully upgrade PCs.

To be honest it's mostly your CPU atm. The game can be playable and enjoyable with that GFX card, it's what my wife's laptop has and she has no complaints other than the heat. As far as I'm aware the game will shift the load your GFX card can't handle onto the CPU which I assume to be the case with your setup. Then again I could be pulling this out of my rear. But that's the way I understand it.

I'm actually running that afterburner overclock program atm and showing my GPU running anywhere between 50-80% but my CPU is hard on 100% full time. So yea I am limited by my CPU.
