On PC this. On XBox I don't lag at fluxes at all, but I prefer lagging on PC to the zone terror.

For those interested in to changing the Veridical Confluxes into something else then here:

Normal Users:
32-bit:
    C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ROM\240

64-bit:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ROM\240

Steam Users:
32-bit:
    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\ffxi\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ROM\240

64-bit:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ffxi\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ROM\240

This the folder in which the Veridical Conflux dat file is located in. Now find dat file #111. This dat file is the Veridical Conflux dat file for Abyssea. You can back this up by simply adding .backup to the end of it, it changes it to a normal file with an invalid extension. Now lets use the Runic Lamp to replace this.

  • It really doesn't matter what extension you name the dat file you are backing up. You could call it 111.dat.rootbeer if you wanted to. As long as its not the original file name so you can replace the original's slot (without erasing it forever) then its all good.

Runic Lamp is located in Rom4/1/107

So find the ROM4 folder, open that up. Go to folder #1 and open that up, then find DAT #107. Copy it.

Back out a folder and paste it so it doesn't interfere with anything and rename it from 107 to 111. Now right click and cut this dat file.

Now go back to the Veridical Conflux folder (ROM\240). This is the folder where you backed up dat #111. Paste the new dat file you just made a copy/cut of and it will be placed in the folder. If it asks you to overwrite anything stop, and cancel. You did something wrong.

If you didn't get an error message everything should be fine now and ready to go. Log in the game and your Veridical Conflux's should be Runic Lamps now.

If you want to do something other than a runic lamp then download this:

http://download376.mediafire.com/mtkzr64a47hg/2dscp5kjks5qz58/AltanaView_May2011.zip

This is Altana View, and you can browse the NPC's in the game. Once you find one you like, for instance I use Unseelie (DAT5/6/5.dat), do what I said above.

  • When you have Altana Viewer open, open the NPC tab. Here they organized the NPC's by expansion. When you find the NPC you want to use to replace the conflux, look at the bottom left of the screen and it shows the file location for that model. Follow the directions above and you'll be rewarded with all your hard work :P

ALWAYS BACK UP WHAT YOU OVERWRITE.

Hope it helps <3

Edit: Also, if you dont want to log out of the game just do /logout to get to the main FFXI character selection screen. When you log back in it will show the changes you made. If you don't see a change undo what you did and try again.

Edit2: I also forgot to mention this. If you want to undo something you did (made a mistake) and you added the .backup to the end of the dat file you wanted to change, just simply remove the .backup and it will go back to a DAT file.

Did you increase the background resolution from this update? For me, I've only had lag on fluxes and avatars when I've set the resolution on the higher settings

Personally, anything that glows lags me out. Maws, confluxes, avatars, the ponds in Grauberg near the pixies.

I'm pretty sure 90% of the playerbase lags

Thank you for this, I never delved deep into DAT swapping because I'm semi-computer handicapped and scared of breaking something, but this is very easy to understand and I could definitely use less lag. Dual boxing and being next to confluxes makes me want to punch babies.

Yeah Dualboxing next to maws is the worst.. I have learned to run one char to where I am going, then the other if I pass by a maw or something like that.

when your running 4x2gb ATI graphics cards 2x6 core AMD 3.2GHz processors and 16Gb memory you would expect not to lag in the game

1024x1024 was the original background resolution before SE added everything up to 2048x2048 right?

The problem will never be your hardware, it is that this was originally a PS2 game ported to PC. The game just will never be optimized for PC unless they strip the game down and completely re-code it.
