Couldn't that be said for pretty much every religious thread? I mean they all end up devolving into the same thing anyways.. Maybe have a handful for some variety, but yeah, that pretty much goes for any religion thread made past the first few major ones.

It's only the atheists that throw this out too. You don't see the theists and the agnostics of this site slapping up their propaganda EVERY SINGLE DAY.

/sigh

EDIT: Although, us agnostics would just have a video of someone shrugging for five minutes, and saying, "What's all the hub-bub about?"

That's cuz the theists end up getting themselves banned, take Starr for an example.. "Agree with me or I'm going to ***up the forums so bad...." while I'm not disagreeing that there are some atheists/agnostics that need to tone it down, the theists tend to be worse about it, so they end up getting the boot. The 'good' theists that have a more live and let live attitude don't tend to make these types of threads.

That's my opinion/analysis anyways.

Starr was never a theist, it was a role he played so he didn't have to be himself.

He made you hate theists because he wrote ignorant arguments on purpose just to troll.

Be thankful. He was a BG reject that came here to troll.

He made stupidly ignorant theist arguments to get a rise out of atheists.

He'd say things like "All gay people are sinning and will burn in hell" in a LGBT thread.

I'm still not quite sure why no-one else could seem to grasp he was trolling and not actually a Christian at all.

Well I guess he trolled me in a sense, that I took him at his word.. He didn't make me hate theists though..

Then again, I live in Texas and see and encounter people like him daily, so.. It didn't seem all that strange for him to act the way he did.. There are a lot of 'in your face, repent or die' Christians around here.. I have a friend (who is gay), and these people would always come in and leave religious pamplets on the counter for him to find.. They've actually, vocally, called him out on his sexuality while he was working as well..

@Krizz, sorry he was just the most recent relevant example I could think of :x

I do not use Allakhazam. I visit BG very sporadically. I did conduct one social experiment here (which as recently pointed out to me, was actually a multiple case study, not an experiment), but that was over with *months* ago. There's the memo you must have missed.

I am not an Atheist. I believe I stated that right in the OP. And I do not consider the video I posted to be propaganda. I posted it because I thought it was interesting and worth sharing. If you disagree, that's fine.

You're kidding right?

I Corinthians 14 34-35

14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.

14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

I Colossians 3 18-19

3:18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.

3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

Note the difference between 18 and 19.

You realize, of course, the 'keep silent' mandate was because of the way seating was in places of worship. The women were seated in the balcony section while the men sat on the ground floor level. With no microphones when the speaker would turn his head in one direction half of the balcony section could not hear anything. The ensuing murmuring made it to where even more people could not hear. Thus the direction to ask the people on the ground floor later, the men, what was said.

Also, the full text on submission to husbands relays the husbands mandate to give oh himself to the point of death so that the wife lacks nothing. I would say there is similar amounts of sacrifice there.....if you don't cut the quote short that is.

At any rate, this video just flip flops what religious folks do as the entire video is basically saying "You can't do such and such or experiance such and such if you are a believer". There some really really good arguments against the existance of a deity. This is not one of them. Nearly every one of his assertions could be picked apart 100 times over.

Time to up the ante!

"And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the ***, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire." (Leviticus 21:9)

"When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets: then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her." (Deuteronomy 25:11-12)

"Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean." (Leviticus 12:2)

"But if she bear a maid child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her separation: and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying threescore and six days." (Leviticus 12:5)

"But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God." (I Corinthians 11:3)

"For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man." (I Corinthians 11:8-9)

"Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. Whoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death. He that sacrificeth unto any god, save to the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed." (Exodus 22:18-20)

BURN THE WITCHES!

Leviticus 20:13 If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death.

No wonder they oppose gay marriage! They don't want to have to murder a bunch of people!

Deuteronomy 22:20-1 If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl’s virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house.

Exodus 35:2

For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.

Walmart is open 24/7 and is run by Christians. Maybe it's just a test and the next time they work on Sunday poison gas will be released?

Exodus 21:20-21 If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property.

Beat your slaves! Just not to death.

1 Peter 2:18 Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.

Leviticus 25:44-45

Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property.

The Bible sure loves slaves!

Let's not kid ourselves here. The Bible was written in a time that was not tolerant towards woman, homosexuals, witches (harry potter I'm looking at YOU!) or slaves. The Bible was written by people alive during that time so of course their views will be what they write about.

Yet it still doesn't explain why the text goes out of its way to tell women and women alone to keep their mouths shut.

I guess men always walked in, kept silent and prepared to worship. That must be it.

If the text wasn't gender biased it'd be more than happy to tell both sides to shut up and prepare to worship if anyone was disturbing the service.

The following verse only compounds the issue. It could easily have said to inquire after services were over yet the text goes out of its way to instruct women to shut up and ask your husband questions at home.

Cause that's where women belong after all. It's sexist and archaic.

Quote:

How did I cut the quote short?

Verse 18 clearly states for women to be submissive towards their husbands. Various translations swap around the word submissive for being under the authority or being under the rule of said husband.

Verse 19 states for men to love their wives. It's good advice standing alone but shows unequal treatment towards the sexes.

Men are to love their wives but women are to give themselves to their husbands.

Oh and lets ignore the polygamy.
