My friend is playing this game and during battles there are these icons that appear next to your character's names in the upper right corner.

Example:
What do these mean?

Currently she has an icon that looks like an arrow pointing down, an arrow pointing right, and an arrow pointing left. When this icon is on the screen (always during battles) her 2nd and 3rd characters do nothing. Their AI's are set to "Go all out" and "Heal first".

I've googled, Wiki'd, and gamefaqs'd this question and have found nothing explaining what the icons mean. Anyone happen to know?

I can only assume that the icons mean they're in auto-attack mode. Party members default to that auto-attack freeform fighting style (i.e. doing nothing) unless you press L3(R3?), cuing them to use the A.I. settings you assigned them. Messages like "Eldore is starting a combo!" should show up during that. It's also probably the only way you can get them to use revival spells too.

They're more likely to use the skills you assign them in the palette, but that won't stop them from using their entire arsenal every now and then.

Hmm, I'll tell her to give that a try (the L3/R3 thing).

@Alymorel
We dont play anything online yet, so I doubt it anything to do with WKC's online features.

Just because you don't play online doesn't mean it won't tell you if you are connected to the internet.

(That's the only symbol I recognize/know, so sorry I can't help more. :/ )
