Not really sure if this is off limits or not as far as topics go. If it is then a mod can delete it I guess?

Basically I'm trying to play FFXI or even just use ventrilo through my university's proxy. Used ProxyCap and YourFreedom before, however the 30day free trial for ProxyCap ran out and I'm not prepared to pay $40 for it. If anyone has had this issue resolved themselves, bar getting the university to unblock ports... please tell me how. Can give details on connection etc. if need be.

I was told that the reason I couldn't use things like Ventrilo is because the university was blocking ports. If not I really don't know. ProxyCap+YourFreedom fixed it if that helps at all -.-

Each time I open a browser I have to enter username/password to log into the proxy server. Vent simply doesn't connect. FFXI gives "connection issues" error message as I log into POL.

I know to use the wireless on my university's network I had to enter a UN and PW. However once I did that once in the browser, all other software was cleared for the rest of the session.

Are you still blocked from the network once you log in on the browser?

If its not a question about making your network work properly, I don't think I can help you any further. While I wish you the best of luck, routing around your network's rules is not something I can help you with.

Also keep in mind:

This means anything that would get the site in trouble, such as pornography, soliciting a minor, viruses, statutory hate speech, aiding or encouraging any illegal act in any country, etc, are still strictly off-limits. If it would potentially get you in legal trouble for saying it publicly in real life, don't put it here.

It may be against forum policy to ask a question like that here as well.

Have you tried VPN?

It'd probably be something like:

connect to internet, login via www, connect to vpn, go.

You can setup a VPN on your home computer or use a free service or paid service.

quick googling brings up...

lol thanks but it seems I have to download the Hotspotshield Download Manager first, which doesn't work because of the proxy. fml
