Durable enough to last your for quite some time, at the very least. Whether it stays sharp is the only issue I see.
Even then though, it's still better a steel pipe would be, if only because of the grip and you may eventually be able to resharpen it a bit when you get to a "safe" place.

also if they were blind and only followed sound and you set up a loudspeaker that was surrounded by C4 could you kill a lot of zombies?

It was mentioned before by a few people, the whole leading them to a cliff or ledge you're on the other side of, and let gravity do the work.
I find that a very good way to kill them. Minimal energy and effort, moderate efficiency.
could also use it when trying to get out of a specific location
use it to get all zombies out of your way

edit: Flion proved a good point to me about the crowbar. Crowbar is your best bet, won't break and can use as a crowbar ^^

i wonder if taking my car and covering it in armor would work as a means of transportation and/or zombie killing
maybe add some spears pointing forward and some blades pointing out of the wheels
