It works.

Edit: Though to avoid any issues, I would only copy over the DAT folders. Then it'll do a file check and maybe download 2-3 files in the root POL directory.

Yes it'll work, there will still be somewhat of an updating process, I'm not sure if there's some files that don't get copied just by doing that, or what it's been a long time.. Just don't cancel it or anything when it pops up.

But I remember doing it and it going through the update thing and me /facepalming because I though it was going to run the whole thing.

The right and proper way of backup is backup the whole final fantasy folder (including user data) as it will simply be reused by POL the next time you reinstall.

No need to backup POL folders unless you have messages and screenshots you want to keep in the backup. Backuping POL will add about 1.5 GB to your already big FFXI backup.

When reinstalling, you can simply install POL then FFXI. You will need to reinstall all expansion discs if you don't backup POL folders as certain "flagging" files are placed there to indicate that you have FFXI expansion data installed (I.E.: Expansions do not activate without these files on POL folder).

If it's a steam copy it won't work. I wrestled with this issue for the best part of a week and PoL would refuse to open with a missing .dll, when I fixed that it just wouldn't open with no error. I uninstalled and re-installed it and Steam was too HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE to remove parts so it installed an old incomplete version of PoL which refused to update.

If it's a steam copy I'd highly recommend a fresh install.

Are the Friends List Messages saved on the HDD too? If so, where? Thanks in advance!
