You know what I love? The fact that FFX and FFVII are actually connected and are on the same planet.

I was like "Wow cool man!" when I read that.
What dialogue box did I miss? Really?

lol what? I'm pretty sure FF4 has been remade more times than any other FF title. It's definitely a fan favorite, it just doesn't have the much more diverse following FF7 has.
1 and 2 from the NES have been remade far more than 4 o_O.

All the dumb hating on 7 aside, I did not really find it that memorable of an experience. I had laughs, I had some fun but it just wasn't all that memorable. The characters occasionally got on my nerves, the story wasn't all that exciting to me, and it was just another RPG.

Then there were RPGs that left impressions of adventure, excitement, fear, admiration, every feeling was touched by the characters, the art, the direction the story took. I could relate to the characters, feel their pains, feel their triumph. These include but aren't limited to:

-Mass Effect 2
-Chrono Cross
-Dragon Age
-FFX
-FFXII
-Infinite Undiscovery
-Star Ocean TTEOT
- (and my all time favorite on the list) Valkyrie Profile

They had all the things that made my heart fill with joy as I played through their stories. And still to this day define me as part of who I am based on the artistic experience I took from them.

FFVII didn't leave an impression like this, and personally I just feel its all overrated hype.

Going strictly off the top of my head.. FF1 and 2 were remade for Wonderswan Color, as was 4. They were then remade for PS1, as was 4. They then saw a GBA port, as did 4. Finally FF4 had a full DS remake, which puts FF4 in the lead as long as I'm not missing anything (I probably am).

Granted, even if 1 and 2 come in first, 4 has to come in second place, and that was my only point as the statement I was countering suggested FF4 hasn't been remade.

If I recall correctly, IV was remastered for the Nintendo DS and recently had a sequel of sorts made for it. Something covering ground of some "lost years". I must look into this in further detail.

Edit: Here we go

Basically a remaster of IV and The After Years mashed up into one game available on PSP

I didn't read all the posts so someone might have said this already. I don't think that people like FF7 for its graphics. Any FF games I've not liked have been because of gameplay (the only one I didn't like was Revenant Wings or whatever that FF12 sequel was)

I feel bad for anyone who gets their enjoyment out of a final fantasy game primarily out of graphics.

Gameplay is a great factor as this determines how you will go about your adventure, but any RPG player worth their salt will understand that a good game is a combination of elements including: story, character development, music, lore, environments, interaction/decision making, off-shore questing, non-linear core progression etc.

For the above reasons is why I found 7 to be good, but not omgwtfamazing as so many claim it to be. But if SE can make it a cash cow enough to continue better titles (wishful thinking), then so be it.

You're not only counting the DS and GBA versions of FF4 as the same (they're absolutely not) but counting NES releases of FF1 and FF2 as two versions of the same game when we're clearly talking about the release counts of separate games. The NES version of each counts as one release, not two.

I remember downloading two different ROMs for FFIV for my SNES emulator and found that one was horrifically censored in a way.
At the beginning when you forcibly take the water crystal, there was no dialog from the wizards or white mages or priest defending the crystal with their lives, and what should have been discreetly labeled as a "package" was given to you and named as a Bomb Ring, totally ruining the shocking twist of events early in the game.

I was beyond furious, and now I'm curious what abomination green lighted such a disgusting release of censorship and where did it come from?

1 and 2 was rereleased on the NES packaged together in Japan. Either way, even if you did seperate each and individual console, cellphone, etc release, FFI and II still have more entries into the series than IV.

You can easily hack the rom via binary or hexidecimal to make the game whatever you want. There are tons of SNES rom hacks out there. I had an FFIII savestate editor, where I could make Kefka and Baron permanent party mates... I made Kefka a quad casting blue/black mage, and Baron heal 9999 each turn :D.

I actually forgot entirely about this. I think there are actually 3 original versions of FF4, those being the original version, English version and easy type version. None the less, testament to the amount of variations this game has seen.

Unfortunately I don't own a PSP, so I'll be SOL on the nifty little "Complete Collection" release in April. At least I can (hopefully) find a legitimate and original version of IV in rom form for my SNES emulator and simply purchase The After Years on my Wii.

But yeah, I'm wondering if I just got totally trolled by some *** who rewrote the data within the ROM or if I got a messed up censored version with spoilers before you're supposed to know about em D:

Well, there's actually a lot of debate about which is the authoratative version of FF4. From what I remember, the JP version was converted into what we now know as FF4 (or probably FF2 in the day), only it was made easier than the JP version in multiple aspects. The game was then rereleased in Japan with not only the NA adjustments but further differences; this version called FF4 "easy type". The rom you downloaded was possibly a fan translation of the easy type version, which I believe exists. I'm not really sure of any way of confirming versions, other than playing to determine which.

On the topic of the After Years, unless you're a die hard fan of the game, I wouldn't recommend it. I found it personally to be a lot of "here we go again" combined with very few truly new elements. The game basically recalls most events of the original, and if you really can't get enough of the original then go ahead and get it; otherwise, just play the original again. The ending in particular really fizzles out. It's like they wanted to make a sequel to attract buyers but didn't really care where they left them once they were caught on the hook.

Agreed, It just comes across as a means of self-delusion so people can trick themselves into thinking the plot for FF8 wasn't a nonsensical mess. When It's far more likely the writers realized they backed themselves into a corner and couldn't get out.

I'm sure you could make a similar claim that that Cloud died at a specific point in FFVII, and stretch and skew the story from that point on to make a strong case to support it.

Heck now that I think about it, you could probably do that with just about EVERY Final Fantasy game ever made....
