It only makes sense to cater to Japanese players. I don't care how selfish the NA players are, they're wrong on this, and this maintenance is at the perfect time to allow the biggest majority of the player base to be unhindered.



This graph shows the login and active play times of players around the world. The peak is obviously JP players, and the maintenance takes place for the other bunch of hours. What that means is that doing maintenance when they do is no worse than sleeping at night when the world is less active.

They are just fiddling with the servers, nothing massive.
My point is SE should share the inconvenience with the other parts of the world, screw the Japanese over on maintenance sometimes, not just the west.

Here's one from 2009, it only got more extreme into JP time.

Ok from what i gathered that chart is showing that the greatest amount are on for 1-3 hours and i know the japanese arent logged on for just a few hours and the chart is only shown in jst it doesn't show which part of the world is logged on at any given time. So we dont know ifs its mainly Jp thats causing the spikes on the chart it could very well be EU players or late night players.
