Rate Downs.

Eh, I'll admit, sometimes I snoop through my own forum posts and look for anything with a high/low number or that looks interesting and re-read it! >_>

We should just remove the rating system really~ it's really rather useless when you think about it.
People without opinion on anything will simply rate anything down for the sake of rating down.

I remember people rating down Haseyo for saying something as silly as "I like mentos". It makes me think that when someone doesn't agree with your opinion, they unleash the motherfucking fury by rage-pressing that "-" button with the hand of the angry God or something.

Why are you guys complaining about an unimportant feature on a forum that's about a video game of all things? It seems like people are complaining just to complain now.

Also, it seems like the biggest nay-sayers are the ones who get the most rate downs. Usually those are the people who don't even give rate downs a moment's thought.

It seems to me that some people rate things down just to add to the pile of rate downs on unpopular posters. It doesn’t bother me when I get rate downs personally. Although I would be sad to see the report function go away, even though I haven’t seen it do a damn bit of good. I have never been into being nice to people just to be in with the in crowd anyways. I am proud of my rate downs. I would rather be on the outside laughing at all the sheep then bending over and taking it just to fit in.

the report function works fine when you use it as intended, to report material that is clearly not within the rules of the site or is legally actionable

reporting people because you don't like them or they hurt your feelings won't and shouldn't get results

Um most of anonymous isn't that anonymous as it turns out.

I've expressed my own opinion on this one at least half a dozen times by now:

I'd like to either see the rating system changed to a Facebook-like "up-ding only" system, or removed entirely from forum posts.

However, I'm just one opinion. There is long-standing disagreement on this point even among mods and admins.

hell, check Cesil's page on Lakshmi (if you're reading this Cesil, sorry to bring you up, just stating an example).
People rate her down without even KNOWING her, or knowing that at some point in FFXIAH she was targeted as an attention girl or anything.

Abuse of a useless system really renders it useless in the end.

In fact, Cesil's a very good analogy in this.
Gazillion people will never get to know her, but 75% of those rated her down. Is this trying to show me that she's a bad person and everyone who stays by her side is a fool? I don't think so.
Is this trying to show me that I should be aware of her without knowing her either? I don't think so again.
