He might have been trying to work up the courage in the store to say something charming or romantic to you, struggled to do so (or failed to think of anything), then not wanting to give up on you, follow you hoping you would turn around and say something to him.

My husband is too chewy, I bet. All muscley and sinewy, ick! Fishes are good for everything though. So pretty in a tank, I love them as pets! And so tasty, I definitely love them as food. :D
Can't eat the ones I have as pets, of course. Although I sobbed like a small child when my betta died back in the day. xD

However, I love fish (to keep as pets and to eat) as much as you, so all is forgiven. If money was not an issue my diet would mostly consist of fish. Especially Salmon /stare Spoons...
