I used to always buy into the Verizon "new every two" mode of thought (i.e. that I must get a new phone every two years because they tell me so, and that the upgrades are worthwhile.)
Then I came to the realisation that the phones I kept replacing still did the same thing essentially as the new ones, at least for what I needed. So then I stopped buying new phones and decided to only buy a new phone when the one I currently have no longer works anymore. :/
To me, at least, the whole "you need a new one because it's new! duh!" just smacks of (in my mind) wasteful conspicuous consumption, driven entirely by manufacturers. ;_;
This is my second smart phone ever. My other was a refurbished Samsung galaxy S the original and I've had it two years and it was bad. I only used it to make calls mostly. If I surfed the internet I used my 4 year old iPod touch. I really needed a new phone but omitting too cheap to constantly upgrade like some people.
