I know I have about 11,000. Although most of it is junk I don't listen to anymore that I took from my friend's CD collection. I should really clean out my collection.

I really want an ipod myself as it is the only known portable music device that holds a significant amount of storage thus allowing me to upload my collection in nearly lossless quality. Also the ipod is the only music player that has the capacity and software to enable individualized equalizer settings per song.
I'd start off with the discography of something timeless and well defined without too many B-sides, singles, EPs and other junk that muck up containing a collection of one's work.
Perhaps something like: Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie?

Hmmm, soundtracks are nice too. Though part of me wants to keep stuff like movie soundtracks and scores, as well as game and anime music relatively separate from typical music artists. Wonder if there's a way to prioritize which albums/artists are included in the mix of what plays on shuffle and other stuff.
Though I suppose it wouldn't be too awful to mix it up. Would just be a bit awkward to go from Alice in Chains to Nobuo Uematsu or something of the like.

I don't trust those converters. they do such a lousy job converting and they sound like crap most of the time.

Bleh, there needs to just be one universal box that plays everything. I know it's called a PC, but tricking your hardware into operating like a different machine tends to make for intense troubleshooting and lower frame rates.
