Have no interest in those shows but having to hunt down which platform has what is the main reason I recently set up my plex server (yeah I know of the breach on Monday, luckily I had it shut down then).

Installing it on a linux host was easier to set up than windows. My only real problem is apparently the vizio TV app sucks *** and can't see the local server, had to use a firestick. The other TVs all work fine (LG, Toshiba, Samsung) just not that one Vizio pos (I didn't buy it). Of course the main reason I had chose plex was for the app support lol...

I think it'd have worked if I had bought the pass but I missed the deadline before it doubled in price. I could get the monthly and save a lot on memberships/month but the lifetime would only be a 3 year cost of monthly... Probably will hold out until there's a sale or something, idk.

Not really a Hollow Knight fan, so no. Didn't appeal to me when I heard about Hollow Knight. Have no inclination towards Silksong. *shrug*

only played like an hour or 2 so far but it's great. i enjoyed the original to the point of bruteforcing a 112% complete so im maybe biased, but yeah not mad at all with it so far.

has the feel of the OG but hornet plays a lot different than the vessel did and it seems theyve improved the charm system a lot. will be interested to see if there's stuff like boss pantheons and a path of pain type thing.

There is that thing in law that its effects can not retroact. It makes no sense a company alledge copyrights from something was already establish prior.

Also, it shouldnt be possible to create patents for something so generic.

Finally, if Nintendo is planning using those “patents” to sue others, most likely the laws gonna be revisited, as this is too predatory. Using patents created after to sue competition is not protecting their IP by any means: they are using law not to defend but to attack.

This is a misuse of legislation, and must be criticized not only for the companies that are affected, but by society in general, because someone who uses law as a weapon is a danger to society.

Honestly, I think if 'finding the show' is too much of an inconvenience you just aren't that invested in the show. You can streamline a pirating system with radarr/sonarr/rss feeds and automatically download/present everything in one place, sure. But, the setup time for that is probably sufficient that you aren't saving any time vs googling what platform a show is on and remembering it until the season ends.

I don't watch a whole lot of TV. My plex server gets used a whole lot more by my mother, who often wants to see older movies or series that may be inconsistently available on streaming. She understands the client app on her TV and anything I download for her shows up under recently added so it's easy. Sometimes my gf wants me to put anime up, and I see some merit to the finding argument there [since often, one platform won't have every season]. Having 4k copies of older media digitally is nice, if you're the type of person to rewatch movies once in a while.

So, idk. Plex is a good platform, but I think if you're finding reasons like 'too hard to locate' as reasons not to watch things then you probably just aren't that interested to begin with.

There's pre-built kodi devices you can buy that plug into the TV, most of them built on top of a Rasberry Pi. Some with storage space built in, but Kodi can be configured to see files from any device on your network. It does not require a separate server service, unlike Plex.

Kodi is open source and needs no license to run or use. It does not phone home and will not remotely break no matter what anyone wants or does. There are official phone apps for it for remote control.

The fact that illegal methods of viewing videos are both more streamlined and easier to use than "official" channels is a failure of those official channels. Compete, or be left behind as always.

There are indeed hundreds of very illegal to-pay-for Plex services out there that essentially replace all the various content platforms into one massive one, at a cheaper cost. Mostly hosted in Eastern Europe somewhere.

Back in the day there used to be modded xbox-es you could buy with TV viewing software built in that did much the same thing, though clunky and not as streamlined. In fact Kodi is a spin off UI from old xbox software.

I'd say it's like the XI style of simplifying things. Spend 4 hours setting up [addon/plex] to save 30 seconds [doing simple task/locating show]. The payoff is nonexistent in terms of time savings. It's a great way to view a local media library on your TV, but it's not a reason to use a local library over a streaming service.

Something like Dodik recommended is probably more practical than hosting your own plex server if the goal is to just have all your media in one place and stiff the streaming providers.

Well they did a bad job.

I have a personal media library, mostly full of crime shows i watch while doing course work at this point. I use Jellyfin for that.

It largely has shows on it that I know where to find them but dont want to pay a streaming service to watch that 1 or 2 shows from it.
things like peacock, paramount+, etc. I also ripped all my dvds and blu-rays so that i dont need to dig them up and put them into my dusty old PS3 to watch them.

My husband and I have a tradition to watch a "halloween" movie every night of october and a christmas movie every night in december up until christmas. I pulled the cord to do the whole personal library after half the movies we watch fell off of any service just out in limbo (the final straw was specifically the little vampire). but now we have a collection in jellyfin for halloween and christmas, just go to it and hit shuffle to pick a random movie.

After that i picked up my crimes shows, and any thing that is not on a service I want to get or is but is not owned by that service.

My experience setting it up was very good and super simple less than 30mins, but I would not be surprised if it usually takes longer.


final note, the show perception only has season 1 available on physical media in the USA, but you can find all 3 seasons on ebay and such as the chinese version, season 2 and 3 ripped fine but season 1 only half the episodes could be ripped, and the format was very weird i ended up needing to manually go in and split the episodes up after ripping them (which i had to do for Avatar the last airbender as well).

Borderlands 4 is out on steam and its booming. Of course people are reporting massive PC performance problems but it doesn't appear to matter too much.

Ive just catched up to Gojo death in JJK, and maybe Im just being "that guy".

Because I dont think JJK as good as they say but I didnt think Gojos demise as bad as they cry everywhere.

I actually thought Sukuna explanation for his win pretty much consistent with all the battle that they fought.

And yeah, that fight was the peak of this story so far for me at least.
