So true, the XIV voice acting is so bad and what makes it worse is the horribly stiff cutscenes and that stupid open mouth emote they all do repeatedly. Such forced dialogue and horrible accent to go along with it, that was another thing that made the storylines such a slog to progress thru lol. Almost all the NPCs in the game talk the exact same way too.

These whole recap things are neat. The entire star trek recapped.

Yoshida loves this kind of amateur dramatics sounding voice work, he forces it in 14 and 16 and it detracts from the story. He specifically picks voice actors that give this kind of performance and it's awful.

It doesn't sound professional at all.

It's sad cause all other voice work is very high quality in SE games, but not in anything Yoshida does.

RIP Bob Uecker, a truly great announcer for a truly terrible team.

That's all of anime style acting tbh. Anime acting is influenced by Japanese theatre play. So all the acting, body language, voice AND script tend to feel more dramatic than rl or Hollywood.

When the art style is anime and language is spoken in Japanese, it often feels "right". Maybe it's because Japanese as a language already sound dramatic. When it's translated to English or having a more realistic art style, it just feels wrong and corny.

That's why I often prefer Japanese voice acting in their work.

Many higher budget FF titles often rewrite a large portion of dialogues in localization, so it doesn't sound as corny with English voice acting. FF7R's English script doesn't sound that corny, as English script was changed to a more realistic style that works better with English voice. But their character body language for acting is still anime style. So it still feels weird in that regard lol.

Either way, I don't think the disconnect between Japanese anime style in acting and more realistic Hollywood acting style in English isn't going away easily. And I am kinda used to it after years of watching anime and dealing with dub anyways.

They should keep it like FF7R which is actually really good. I honestly despise JP voice acting, I just can't listen to it. I get a lot of DBZ videos that pop up and I cringe when they end up subbed. Just something about that chipmunk over acting screeching that really irritates me. So forced and theater like. Like you said, maybe that's also why I dislike 14s. Yhe woman are the worst of it all.

In a perfect world Yoshida would be allowed to make a separate division and make single player games, it's obvious that is what he wants to do. Someone who wants to work on the mmorpgs and give them 100% would be better for everyone.

In a perfect world, they would allow anyone to host a server so they could make their own rules and groups.

Like Palworld business model that allow for people to have a private server, decide rules and play it as a MMORPG. Or simply play single player
