Speaking of books, both playing and reading The Witcher stuff right now (playing the third game, half way through the second book).
I am thoroughly engrossed in this particular world right now and it's legit making it hard to do anything else with my free time.
Which is a problem when I'm supposed to be packing to move.

I'm telling ya, you could do far worse than Andrzej Sapkowski. And you might even have more stuff available for translation than English does right now, though I'm not sure about that.

I used to like fantasy but I've felt putoff for some time now. Kinda tired of the same old elves and gnomes and stuff and their pretentious epics and their wars.

Maybe try Solaris by Stanislaw Lem. I notice far too many contemporary sci-fi novels lean heavy on the dystopian scenario.
This one focuses more on the nature of human memory, experience, communication and the inadequacy of communication between humans and non-human species.

I always thought The Secret World was a really fun setting wrapped around a really generic MMO. I liked everything about it except actually playing the game, sadly.

eh it's fun as a single player game that you can play with people you know. i'm pretending it's freaky deeky skyrim. i have a hover board and use blood magic. fos ro dah!
*Edit* also the world is a big part of any mmo for me. the combat is kind of generic mmoish but that's because you can do anything and everything. you pick two weapons. i'm blood magic and sword, but i can tank or heal or dps depending on which abilities and passives i set.

The Secret World was mentioned for excellent quest design for an MMO in this Extra Credits episode. Pretty interesting stuff.
