Edit: my dad used to play XI with me and we played a lot together... he even hung out with my friends when I wasn't around and talked about me too!

I like having support from my mother. I don't mind if she comments on my stuff but there is a way to do it appropriately. For one thing, I don't get many comments on tumblr so when the only comment you get is "THIS IS YOUR MOM" its like..I'm gonna go cry in a corner because the only person I can attract is my mom.

and secondly..she can't really give constructive criticism because she doesn't know what she's talking about but usually a person would say something about "I like your use of color/texture/lighting/shading" and then they would offer something to help you improve. She just describes the picture instead "I like how this is a picture of a mouse sitting on a couch, looking to the right with a teacup in his left hand"


not that I want any sort of criticism on my tumblr because I force myself to draw a doodle every day which is hard enough and I often I only have an hour to paint a scribble real fast..if even that..so it's embarrassing enough not to have time to put effort into something

Nothing wrong with it at all.. but your parents have to put up with you every day for an undisclosed amount of time... they house ya... might even feed and clothe ya... give up their privacy every day to support you and all the while you get upset over them commenting on things of yours... being proud of the things you do?

Just seems pretty self-centric...

@Daus That was my point, my mom has a tendency to be over-supportive to the point of coming off as obnoxious.

I work and help pay bills, help buy food and even help on equipment for the family business, I just can't afford to move out. Not all people living with their parents are the same nor are they in the same situation.

I guess I don't get it... would you rather no one comment on your drawings... and someone who wants to praise your work and show support has to do it correctly or its not welcome and seen more as a nuisance or something? If someone random commented on all your drawings the same way would you pass em a note saying comment on these correctly or don't comment at all?

I know parents can be a little behind the times on certain things and might not come out the way we want them too but I would think people would be pretty stoked that they were getting support from them in whatever package it came in... idk though...

If my parents came to this website...they wouldn't understand anything, they don't speak english!

Never said everyone is ever in the same situation... usually pretty rare that it's the same anywhere... the theme is more like... I'm sure you do some things that annoy the *** out of them yet they still keep you around support ya and help you out even if ya *** at them for taking an interest in what ya do... because you know it's uncool to have your parents do stuff like that... people like you would make fun of people like that as you just told me a minute ago...

In any case... whatever works...

Love and care being there doesn't mean you'll always get along though, arguments always happen. My parents love me, but they treat me like I'm 8 years old(and I mean it) and it's quite frustrating.

no, I want parental love and support. However, Im insecure enough as it is about posting anything in public and when the only comment I can get is from my own mother...it does nothing for my self esteem. It literally makes me feel like Im one of those toddlers who draw scribbles and then the mommy goes "look sweetey, its a bunny! you see how she tried to draw eyes and the ears"....

just take it as an artist self esteem thing. You always feel like you draw s--- but your mommy still loves you and it makes you feel worse.
