i about ***myself the first time playing dead space, never felt anything like that from a movie.

I was freaked out watching a youtube vid of it! But yeah, in general, I think the horror factor of games is much greater than movies. Both can be pretty involving and intense, but with games the feeling is "I want to live," while in movies it's, "I want them to live."

The only games I've played in the last several years have been ffxi and like, a bunch of Civ games. Maybe it's time to return to the console world... I bet that having a gigantic awesome TV coupled with the advances would be pretty rad.

The first Silent Hill really scared me. Me and friends used to sit up late at night and whenever the squeeling radio noise started I new bad ***was about to go down. It was a very hardcore game for it's time.

The reason games are scarier is because your acting interacting with it. You're not just sitting there watching it like "yeh, saw that coming from a mile away". But when playing a game, your so into it, you sometimes miss things and you get taken by surprise.

Games > movies.

What made Doom 3 scary for me is the fact that it was an FPS. RE and Dead Space are Third Person, but in Doom 3, if something pops up to nom your face in, it was in your face too, lol.

Every time I saw a room where lights were flickering, I wanted to just turn my console off. ; ;

We are desensitized for the most part. I actually enjoy "nightmares" since they are like free entertainment. Games definitely have a greater impact on me because my focus is usually not on the surprise attack by monster xyz. I enjoyed Dead Space, and definitely plan to play #2.

Scary movies/games...etc just happen to give you that point where you can jump at that loud very well placed blast of noise in a movie right at the critical moment.

Horror movies don't even come close to games. I'm not much of a horror fan but Dead Space was scary as ***when I first played it, 3 am in a pitch black house all alone.

Maybe I just find both horror movies and games to be poor fear machines :/
If you get scared because of a scary movie/game you either
A) have a vagina
B)haven't grown up yet.

now suspense and horror are two different things, i must make that very clear.

Lmao I was the same way... I never wanted to go anywhere dark.. I completely forgot about playing that game amazingly enough, but that part brought back all the horrible memories of jumping 3 foot outta my chair and absolutely dreading walking into a place that was even just dimly lit.

I think what gets to me, more than the parts that startle you, are the parts that are creepy. Like Silent hill 2 for example. I don't want to go through the hospital, my stomach is churning and it's pretty hard too meaning you can die quite easily...

Maybe I just get creeped out easily.

Scared as in cowering? or scared as in creeped out?

I get spooked easily, too. My parents will just knock on the door while I'm working on a project or something and I'll jump (if there's no music on), lol.

Scary things don't really scare me. It's things that pop up that scare me. I can stare at the Ring girl's face all day, but when I'm watching Youtube and it suddenly just pops up, I'll jump xD

I'd really recommend the one I'm playing now.. Amnesia: The Dark Descent, I can promise it won't be like every other game you've ever played, as you don't even fight in it.. You're not supposed to, you can't.. Instead you have to just survive, by sneaking around and avoiding any and all conflict with enemies. The fact that you can't fight back (and the atmosphere of the game) puts it a step above most horror survival games.

Cryostasis was so-so.. I'm pretty easily creeped out by horror survival type games, but it was pretty rare I got creeped out or scared in that game, I'd recommend that one for people who are more easier on edge..

Isn't that the game where like... If you're in the dark, monsters can't see you but you go insane, but you're fine in the light until they see you?

If I combined every scare I got from every movie ever, the first 15 minutes of Amnesia would still be scarier.

scared as in scared, cowering as well as creeped out qualifies.
if you have to ask that means it fits in being scared :P

Same here.

That's why, like I said I much prefer Silent Hill to Dead space, and Amnesia to RE.

Yeah, I just recently found out about it because of a video posted in the lolpics thread, I decided to try it out and see what it was about.. It's different from all the other survival horror games I've played.. Granted I'm easily creeped out by them, this one is still pretty high up on the creep level, at least for me. It's a totally different experience since you can't actually fight.. Normally when i run across an enemy in this type of game, my first instinct is to run/back up some to give me time to think how to take it down (since ammo is almost always on short supply and I don't want to waste it) but since that isn't an option I basically assume the scared little girl role running away finding a place to hide til it goes away.. I'm forced to actually listen to the damned things moving around and trying to figure out where they are in relation to me, usually that sound is drowned out by gun fire or explosions D: so it adds a whole new layer to the experience, at least for me.

This sounds good. I must try this game sometime. I'm brilliant and little girl running away-style. Should of seen me in Res evil 5 with the chainsaw dude (in the long stretch of street). I ran like a ***.
