OXI better C: MPK. Need I go any further? People were slightly more respectable back in the day due to you piss someone off they'll kill your party, and probably half of your party members will have an HP 30 minutes or more away from your camp due to lack of transportation. It was easy to hinder "bad"(I use that term lightly) peoples progression in the game and as long as you didn't start a tell war or shout war with the person the GMs honestly didn't care, it was part of the game. (This may not have applied on all servers, as some GM were more active than others).

So, you are actually IN FAVOR of MPK'ing as a legitimate and practical practice?
You really are a supreme douchebag.

Pretty sure the point was just that the always present threat of death from random chains of goblins made people think twice before being ***. Not that Raborn needs a white knight or anything.

gotta say i agree with Terminus there Elanabelle, kinda pulled the "supreme douchebag" card bit early in the game, hope you've the correct amount of land for the mana that's gonna cost :3

someone said to me they feel they are making FFXI more and more similar to WoW, not sure i agree with that, though the uniqueness of ffxi's being for hardcore MMORPG'ers only definitely isn't true anymore, its becoming more n more casual

read up on where wow is heading here:

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/2053469#blog

While its not the same as old ffxi, they are making the game a tad more challenging in the end-game part. making it arguably "the best of the both worlds".

back on subject. Iv quit ffxi because i didnt like where the game was heading. I cant add anything that was not said here before, i agree with all of the negative points said here so far. Ultimately what made me quit was the level cap, abyssea and new easily obtainable gear. From being able to do multiple linkshell events in a variety of zones to get some of the best gear to abyssea... you pay what, like 30$ for "new" content thats in *the same* re-collored zones... 30$ is a brand new game with new content... how is abyssea worth that? in addition for it not being worth that money, it voids out all the other events we used to do and love.

"yes YOU CAN STILL DO THE OLD STUFF, just stfu and go do it!" you might say... but go and try to find a linkshell that would be as dedicated for the old content, not to mention no sense of accomplishment by actually doing it. After farming and geting 2 salvage bodies, which btw was very fun to do, to making it all void in a matter of a month, it plain sucks. At this point its not rlly QQ as im well past it but back when it did happen i was kinda QQing :/. Getting CC to 100 and it being rendered void sure didnt make me wanna keep playing either, as everyone knows how hard it is to get a craft there.

Bottom line is, for new players, FFXI is a nice and enjoyable game, minus the magian trials which are HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE grindings, but for the old average player like me, the game just lost its charm. Why would i literally re-start from scratch (at least gear and elitism wise) a game iv been playing for some 5 to 6 years when i can just start a brand new game that has no ps2 limitations and start at the same point where SE lead ffxi to for old players.

ffxi is pretty easy mode atm.. there are still 10 levels (2 more updates) to come out.

i'm kinda in wait and see mode before i pass judgement.

There might be some new endgame crap that everybody needs full twilight gear to zombie zerg ***lol

insta cast aoe deathga or doomga who knows

Hopefully the make outside of abyssea relevant again somehow....

Maybe new HNM's.. like a monstrous dragon in east ronfaure or a gigantic frog in dangruf wadi >_> (idk find some unused zone hmmm)

i could see a new dynamis zone maybe.... dynamis ru-aun gardens.. each statue pops 10 genbu's @.@

proto-garrison (always loved garrison :o)

biggest waste in the game atm (imo) is campaign.. the campaign system has so much potential thats just wasting server power for no purpose currently (as nearly nobody does it.)

If game stays inside abyssea tho.. i dont forsee much in the way of challenge aside from acquiring initial wins / atmas.

Overall tho id say the new ffxi is more enjoyable albeit less challenging than old ffxi.

but there is a couple updates for them to kick our *** with still.

Feh. im a fairly new player. Just started in August of 2010. I worked on drk for a while (60) then really started to like blu so thats been my main ever since and has recently become my first 90. anyway, this is relevant because considering the fact that so many people are aby-burning jobs to 90, i get 0 respect for that. And it hurts. I worked my *** off reaching level 90, meticulously obtaining each new spell. Then spending forever trying to beat Raubahn.

Then I meet some young blu in Yuhtunga Jungle, level 28. Next day, hes in Aby Grauberg level 72. It just hurts a little. When others see us side by side they're not gunna know that I put the work in and he didn't.

I guess in that way, it is broken. T_T

I'm a little surprised some people are touting "the game is borked" nowadays. I thought those people all quit a year ago.

Playing since August? Glad you're going strong, but that was some pathetic QQ. Have fun on the job you like or /logout.

I think the new FFXI killed the old FFXI. People are spending a lot of time of with getting atmas and such in Abyssea.

All the stuff with Level cap 75, is dieing. Einherjar, Limbus, Dynamis, Campaign, Salvage and Besieged is dieing just because of Abyssea. I think Square Enix pissed hisself off with it. Destroying 80% game topic with adding nine new areas and new bosses etc.

I always loved stuff like that but since Abyssea nobody is doing it anymore and so the only thing what to do is Abyssea. If you don't have any stones, you just run around through Vana'Diel with the thought "What can I do?, everything is based with Abyssea..." (and believe me, I'm at such a point atm)

FFXI is getting too pretty easy anyways I think. Noobs are leeching masses of jobs to 90 to say "Look, I'm more awesome than you", but the only difference is, the expierenced player knows what he/she has to do.
People are just too much depending on the Atmas either. They think they are too awesome to kill that NM in for example in Meriphataud Mountains (S), the only thught about it is, "Hey guy, your Atma isn't working here, hehe" so the player with tons of atma risks to get noobish as hell outside of Abyssea.

My last words just to say: Abyssea had his advantages first, but with all the NMs and armor hunt, it destroyed all the beautyful topics in the game like I said before. And that's why I think Abyssea is killing the game more and more. And I think with the next updates, I will quit this game after two years as well.

All of the changes have finally broken the bond I once had with this game. If I don't cancel my account this month than I'm just pissing away fifteen dollars again. Apparently my good friends on the game also felt similarly as the only one who still plays is my girlfriend. She is the main reason I haven't thrown in the towel on keeping the account active to this point.

Still, the changes are not bad because they have fixed the things I hated and griped about for years. The laundry list of things corrected has been mentioned several times in the thread already. For all of the people that still have the desire to play and embrace change, I think the Abyssea expansions are a great thank you gift to the player base. Well, they would be... if these updates were free.

Problem is that the game was improved at the expense of nullifying the value of almost everything people have already done. While that works great for some MMO's, FFXI hasn't done this to the player base since the American launch so it's extremely hard to stomach 5-6 years of progress going down the drain over a few mini expansions. Yeah that old stuff would still be slightly useful in getting the new stuff, but with my old LS members gone and boredom of the entire game engine accrued from years of redundant play I just don't care anymore.

If ever FFXI Offline is released some time after all of the servers are down I will probably play a job through the levels and missions again for nostalgia's sake. For now though, my job here is done.

Amen!
Everything I from from Mar 2004 to today means nothing anymore. All the hard work not only I put in to have multiple 75s and endgame gear but all the hard work and fun put into helping friends and helping my HNMLSs earn all the best gear all means zero now.

Like Serbzook said SE put everyone back to zero, created a new game by rehashing old content. If I want to start over I will start a new game. If you are a new player its a great game (if you play on PC) but for those who have been around since it's NA release it's not FFXI anymore.

Abyssea is awesome and i wouldn't change anything about it..

It just would be nice for there to be something challenging and rewarding outside of abyssea.

Dynamis, limbus, salvage, einherjar, campaign, MMM , Assaults, ZNM, and VNM's were all relevent content before abyssea..

they gave us one event (albeit a super awesome one) and made everything else nearly (emphasis on nearly) pointless to do.

Making even half of the old events have some sort of lvl 99 Uber mode would make me happy (idc if its a reskin i enjoyed them before ^^)

I would like to see at least one unique new endgame event tho..

Not even sure what it would be like... heck maybe hybrid limbus abyssea salvage.. gotta unlock pathos as you climb floors and eventually get option for atma on boss??

but guess that will never happen since SE has to re-programm new more awesome gear against Abyssea gear then and people would stay at Abyssea alone because of the Atma things.

I started to play in September 2003 (JP version), never suspended, never canceled ID, always payed every single month from 2003.

I have also a family, and I love the new FFXI.

Old FFXI : if you don't have a 30 members LS you can't do nothing, you need excel files for tracking presences, points, lot rights and everything was similar to a factory! if not, don't think about endgame stuffs. plus: you have to camp HNM from DAYS and my first job 75 took me about 1 year to complete, at my rhythm.

New FFXI : I can login 1 or 2 nights per week and I can do pretty everything I want, there is alwasy some NMs up and there is always someone doin something, I can pick up 2/3 friends and I can have fun and finish my session with some good drop.

before was a work, now it's a game... NewFFXI > OldFFXI

i prefer the old FFXI.....but easy "if you don't like the new FFXI....don't play it!" <-- that's what i did XD :3 i agree with Anye and Chihgo post o.o

beside on server Ragnarok is very noticeable the huge decline of population since Abyssea started old FFXI 2.5k - 5k people, new FFXI now 950 - 1.5k (only doing Abyssea or/and AFK in Port Jeuno)

i guess another reason people complain is because what is already mention...a lot of end game event is not worth the time anymore /and everything being abyssea only making all 4 expansion and the other 3 addons pretty much worth less beside being more easy now too o.o

Still...imo SE really needs to make a new expansion not more remakes for the new lvl99 with new city....new monster...raise crafting cap(since currently doesn't have much benefit having some of them in 100) and many more including new endgame

i think....because a lot people had left(including a lot of friends)...and is kind of hard to make new friends in the game since Abyssea.
Alliance exp makes it very hard to talk to other people to make friends unlike normal 6 party.

Everything is personal opinions....the new FFXI is now and the old FFXI is not coming back so is "deal with it and move on" or get used to it and keep playing, that's pretty much it XD

old FFXI will always be great memories for me for all the cool people i met in party, endgame events, BCNM KSNM ISNM and campaigns ^w^ <3

before Abyssea, a lot of people left the game for lack of new contents, so SE launch the 3 mini-add-ons and people keep lefting the game because people says "lolAddons", now SE lauched the biggest innovations since game start and people leave the game again?
so what SE have to do? people never satisfied...

Well there would have been an easier option to stay all the Endgame stuff and so on alive, just put the new gear into the Einherjar, Limbus and other fun stuff and violà people would have new content without ruining the old one.
Would have been easier and would have used so much server potency like putting nine new areas with full of mobs and stuff.

To be honest, I'm a bit mad about Flunklesnarkin with his statement, that Campaign is the biggest waste of server potency actually. I still play it (woah am I uncool now?) and some other JP's use it while they wait for a pt.

You are wrong on ALL the parts where you needed big alliance or big LS to achieve anything.

-Most hnms could be killed with <6 (don't mix inability to claim and alliance requirements)
- Limbus can be done with 6, all parts
- Salvage can be done with 2 or 3, all parts, 6 officially
- Dynamis is easy with just about 2 parties
- ZNMs were easy trios up to tier4 where ~10 is more than enough
- assault required 1, 3 officially
- random bcnm/ksnm were mainly duoable easily

Don't mix your inability to build your own event with high numbers requirements

I don't agree, anyway I respect your opinion.

Sorry if I have a family and a son and I never had the time to camp an HNM for hours and hours a day, competing with the same 1/2 Ls monopolizing camps for years, and I never had the time to organize my life in respect of the game events (monday sky farm, tuesday dynamis, wednesday salvage, etc.) to repeat and spam always the same events for years. Sorry if I have inability to do that.

Now I am able to login when I have time, without having to plan nothing and I find everytime something to do. Thank you SE.

Lol so why do you claim the problem was events that can only be done in big LSs ? The problem was your inability to schedule events according to your playtime. We had a monk for 1 year in our LS that logged 2x 2H tuesdays/wednesday and he got his full salvage set in less than 1 year of playing.

Good for you. Not everything in MMORPGs are meant to be obtainable by casuals.

They're not casuals obviously.

Sorry the linkshells you joined didn't have schedules catered to casuals. Most content was still easily lowmannable without many people if you knew how to play and had friends that did too.

Apology accepted.

Sylph.Katoplepa said:

You have a funny way of showing respect and this isn't a matter of disagreeing because you personally don't have the capacity to lowman 75 content. Fact was that it was lowmannable by an enormous amount of players without much effort. Most mobs' capabilities could be easily gauged by players that have never fought them simply by reading Wiki pages/testimonials. The content was so well documented. Now almost nothing I check is because it's pointless to document mobs that are harmless.

Ok so I don't want to start a ping-pong discussion ^^
I always had very little time to spend in game and I've done the best that I can do in my condition, so according to this, now I say that I'm more happy with this FFXI 2.0 because it needs me less time to put into it, and I can obtain more reward in less time, obviously what is good for me maybe is not good for other people. No problem.

After much reading this thread up untill now and some deliberations on my part, I have to agree that the "new ffxi" has taken precedence over the "old ffxi" in many ways. Both have thier good points and bad points.

I've been playing since 2003, mostly leveling here and there and didn't get into the endgame content untill 2007, so I've had my fair share of experiences with all the changes that has gone on over the years. The same goes for most of the people here. I can honestly say we're pioneers in that aspect because even when new players jump in they would never be able to experience what we endured, have had fun with and so on.

Let's flip the coin.

New players and old would have an easier time with how things are with ffxi, yes. I admit I may have ranted a few times in older threads about the lack of help one would get but it really comes down to tenacity and asking the right people for help; something I learned from many people over the last few days of reading this and from my friends. My only current issue is that I hope there will be some additional content once the cap of 99 is hit, at least one more peice of it I suppose. It just seems like with all the crazy gear and weapons at our disposal and halfway decent reach it would be nice to utilize them more. I am hoping this will not become like a shiny new car with no engine to run it as far as that is concenred. We'll see I guess.

To sum up the game has progresed a bit and I would quite say we all should be congratulating ourselves that we have endured and gone through so much and embrace what we currently have, both the good and the bad.
