great post elana....

I agree with everything you said.. One thin that bugs me is the 30 people that I have to compete with for Guku just so I can get a chance at red proc. But then I think about if it was old FFXI and that it could be 1-8 hrs between pops or better yet 24hrs.. I only have to wait 10 min to compete again.

Or how about making it so everyone in the PT who gets the kill gets the key item? That way you could team up and avoid unnecessary comp.

No need to solo. I am sure with all of the whiners you can form several alliances. I still do ein it isn't hard to gather a few people to do things. Most people would rather put energy into bitching than forming parties.

Not really. There's very few whiners on Shiva. (on this particular subject)

So I guess I'm SOL if I want to do Ein or Dyna.

SE needs to make the old events more relevant.

Atmas broke the game. That's what I'm throwing down on the table.
But the Atmas are making it fun. I started back to playing not too long ago and was surprised at just how much everyone had accomplished in the 4 months I'd left the game. There are empyrean weapons running around left and right.
(Oh God at all the Vere monks).
Not to mention friends that didn't have +1 when I left having several sets of +2 and almost done unlocking their own empyrean weapons.
It's just unreal.
That and SE really hasn't made any {new zones}, they've made some monsters with slightly new abilities and altered their colors.
The one thing I loved about FFXI was the {Adventuring} and learning about new monsters. Which hasn't happened since the ToAU release (when things really started moving fast in this game). I somehow missed the WoTG phase because I never got anything accomplished storyline wise and spent most of my time campaigning for items that weren't really good. (Ok maybe to newer players but not to me).
And I know I'm probably asking too much from SE, to release another expansion like CoP, with new zones and an almost entirely new monster-line with abilities never seen and moves that send even the greatest strategists into stupor. But man those were the good old days of FFXI.

I am all for making old content more relevant, but no sense in acting as if said event dosen't exist anymore. Idk about shiva but here I just mention limbus/ein and always get alot of interest. Come to phoenix =p Dyna is a bit more tricky but I am excited about the changes monday as long as it isn't some dumb gimmick. Here is hoping.

Gathering a few people who want the event; and know what their doing (Far as Phoenix goes lol) would totally not be worth the effort. Can safely say, in regards to phoenix, people would whine more over something stupid than trying to out effort into getting the event done.

I also want to throw out there...

This is still only @ 90 cap, we have 2 cap extensions to go, and each one so far has shaken and changed the game up pretty substantially.

"Old FFXI" endgame:
emphasis on instanced/reserved events (Dynamis, Limbus).
emphasis on highly exclusive NM appearances ("ground kings", CoP Wyrms).
emphasis on low to VERY low drop-rates on desirable items ("ground kings", Dynamis-Xarcabard, Salvage)
limited amount of endgame content relative to the server population

All of this created and supported:
lots on inter-linkshell rivalry and petty banter (trash-talking @ NM camps, linkshell forums flame wars)
gil-selling and gil-buying
botting of all types
a few large-sized endgame linkshells per server, generally featuring high-school maturity levels (cliques, rage-logging, "stealing LS banks", etc.)
a generally-frustrated and ever-shrinking server population

The game was too extreme, now its not extreme enough, SE needs to find a balance for lvl99 content. Problem is largely server populations though, hard to justify content that requires 12+ "average players" from SE's point of view (i doubt they will ever add content that is tailored specifically to relic/empyrean owners) when there are less than 1k people online compared to 3k+ a few years ago.

And the arguement that you can still do old content if you want to: its just no longer relevent, ppl want to optimise their time especially if they have a job/school and with only a few months between new content additions you don't want to get left behind on gear much.

I'm surprised they are even doing more merges now. Each one they does gives off the impression of a shrinking player base making it harder to entice people to what looks like a dieing game.

Doesn't take months to get the gear you need *now* though. And in between that time it's still possible to have fun with old content as you wish assuming you have enough people, and they're not complete morons.

Considering there are 6 empyrean weps i'd like to get, 3-4 more sets of af3+2 to finish, 6 other ppl in my ls doing the same and im doing a full time job lol Believe me 3 months to get the gear i'd like before the next lot gets added isn't enough.

But that's just me, I can see there are a fair few ppl with 90 empyreans and 5/5 af3+2 sets who are quite happy to get new content asap.

Other than kings gear it seems to take about as long. Reason being its all job specific now.

Yeah Ulli was a bigger pain than Athamas, but when you killed byakko you had a 50% chance of being done with your TP pants for mnk/war/nin/bst/sam forever. Now if you wanted to maximize your tp legs for the same jobs it would require 40 seals and 30 +2 items. That's 50ish kills.

Can you do those 50 kills with a 2box? Sure. But 50 kills with a 2 box is every bit as much of a pain in the butt as farming a dio and gathering 6-8 ls members for a 5 minute fight with a 50% drop rate.

Same with salvage. Depending on the zone you could expect 1-4 35's per 90 minute run. But because many of the pieces were ideal for multiple jobs it made it worth it assuming you had those jobs leveled.

Of course kings sucked. Their time/benefit ratio was always way off.

I do have to say I'm totally bored atm. I'm down to only needing two mobs (vere and kannagi blocks of course) so when those are heavily camped I'm pretty much forced to just do something else other than play ffxi. That doesn't make for a very fun game.

For a man Who kick one player in AByssea party to give a AF3 paladin feet to his friend , it's easy to talk...

Without Abyssea , Stupid players like you won't have chance to have Endgamegears

You're in my /blacklist cause i hate noobish like you coming with Abyssea add-on . Wow on fF XI wtf!

I really miss old time FFXI.

Abyssea kills the spirit of FF XI when good players were playing there jobs with respect and honor.

WOW in FF XI no thanks !!!!

lmfao. Actually I was leading an exp party in Abyssea and you joined without putting /seacom even though nearly the entire party /seacom'd the AF3 feet they wanted (scars had basically just came out, i dont know if all servers did this but all the parties for exp I was in did.. the alternative is getting people like brat who try and lot on every single feet)

10 minutes after you joined the party PLD feet dropped and you cast lots even though only 1 person has /seacom for it. The other person who did not /seacom understood that they messed up when they cast lots like you and passed. After 10+ people asked you for 3 minutes straight to pass the feet and you refused you were kicked from the party. You should have just listened to the rules of the party like everyone else had, but you were only interested in being greedy and getting what you wanted right after joining when we had people who had been there for hours.

Also ftr I did not "kick you" or d2 you, your party leader did because they knew you were breaking the rules that the party had agreed upon. You could have just passed the feet and kept partying with us more PLD feet dropped that night you would have got some but instead you cried like a girl, called a GM on me (supposedly, I was never contacted cause I didn't break any rules) and THEN you told your friends lies about the story. I later spoke to one of your good friends who sat and listened to the real story, in the end they said they were sorry that there was a misunderstanding because you apparently are a nice guy and they were finding out so was I.

I don't care if you speak french when nearly an entire alliance is telling you to pass because you are not following protocol you should understand you made a mistake.

P.S. you play the game a lot.. you say it's incredibly easy, where is all your gear? At least the other people who talk about how easy it is have the best gear in the game.

pick a new atma or play with people who don't use atmas tell me how easy abyssea is. no one is forcing you to use atmas and brews.
This was a terrible argument months ago and nothing has changed that. The tools given are part of the system and the difficulty of Abyssea should be evaluated as such. The option to remove them is an option for artificial difficulty, but it doesn't actually make Abyssea harder. Instead of "Abyssea", you're now engaging in and evaluating the difficulty of "Abyssea without X atmas".

The complaint was directly about Apoc atma, if that's his major concern with the game he shouldn't use it. Doesn't seem like unreasonable advice to me.

Completely missing the point, and saying it's okay for people to take an hour to kill an easy *** NM with Apoc.

Edit: Also, no RR earrings/scrolls are fine, since they're limited to a certain amount of time/tries. If you're using that and you wipe, NM kills you again before you reapply it, you'd need someone *else* to raise you. With Atma of Apoc, no matter *what* happens, you can continue to get up and just keep dying until you either kill it or your entire group dies at once and it's stolen, at which point you'll most likely get up and *** that your NM was stolen.

Edit2: Bleh, hit submit too quick>.>; In Old FFXI, you could zombie ***but there was a limit of time you're wasting based on MP. Now there's no limit at all.

Yes, but then the *** disappeared again saying that same "I'll see you soon" cliche crap. There's tenzen, prishe from our world, the norg folks, the empire tangents(assaults/nyzul/more nadja beatdowns) oh and Jeuno hasn't noticed you killed Kam'lanaut, etc etc...I mean yes, I know you have to preserve old content, but there should just be a certain point where they go "OK, progressively moving along to make the content you fought through continue to be relevant."

And even when abyssea launched, how many folks hoped they would be entirely new zones to explore instead of revamped territory? What about all the wasted zone in the empire? We play in a half-*** realm!

Oh wait, I forgot I'm supposed to be flaming old or new ffxi. Not sure, it keeps me entertained regardless, I just wish for more out of it?

why do you care what other people do? if they are zombieing that bad steal it.. or go find something else to do rather than just wait and watch them.

or another option, offer to help them kill it tell them you don't want drops

whether i care or not is pretty irrelevant to whether what you said makes sense or not, but reading it again it seems like you were addressing something else anyway.

yes, if people want a more difficult game they can give themselves limits like that, but that doesn't make the game itself less easy.

if anything Abyssea without buffs or atmas might be the least easy the game had ever seen. The add-on was made for using atmas and buffs without them you would be playing on hard mode essentially, what was harder in XI than that would be?

P.S. not everyone has/uses atmas (inb4omggimp) in the game and not everyone got them at the same speed.

I try to keep a balance between old school FFXI and Abyssea. I love to do even repeat old content. I like Abyssea, but there are a few things that keep me away.

1. I don't have 24/7 to play
2. I don't have time to stand around in Port Jeuno waiting for shouts
3. I won't join any party that has leeches/keywhores
4. I honestly have an aversion toward the new bandwagon breed of players.

My friends and I much prefer to get things accomplished as a group. We will get our AF3's and Empyrean weapons eventually, but in the meantime we are focused on enjoying the game on our terms. It took us time to get all the now obsolete gear/weapons, same with Abyssea, we'll get there.:)

well, on more crowded servers, shouts for atmas and such happen fairly often. maybe that'll be more common for you after the merge. (not implying YOU don't have atmas, meant your server).

also, if someone doesn't buy any gear because they're too poor and has trouble because of that, then i guess that would be hard mode too. but how often do you see people saying to get rid of their subjobs, or fight things naked, or kite in dusk?

I'm just glad to help out in revisiting old stuff for new players, who really didn't get their Add -ons done in other ls, who were missed in too fast parties that wanted to get done, or they left the ppl behind...

Gives the ppl who got left behind a sense of ful flillment by recieving help from a low man-perspective.

I mean SE is now making stuff low-mannable, that its insanely simple, at to which at some point, I'm sure ppl will eventually quit. If it fades... it fades.. if ppl like revisiting and have every darn job to 90, with all the "ego-tistical I got all my gear..." then there lives are complete in a sense...

I'm just here to help the ppl who want to get some enjoyment and fun out of helping the ppl who got missed. I guess ppl repect that aspect. You won't see me helping ppl who are leaving their egos at the door.. I'll take someone who is new any day over that ^^.
