I may be wrong but last I checked he didn't actually celebrate that, he just used it as a scapegoat for something. But like I said it's been too long to remember accurately.
As for the people on his stomach thing, for all practical purposes, he may as well have been, he was their "god".
I haven't watched Futurama more than once in a blue moon in about 5 years, short of watching the movies the other week. I need to rewatch it all again.

I just watched all 4 first seasons over the past two days lol. In that episode, he puts robo in like 5 different holidays and uses them to get out of work.
