Hello, I am currently 95 Clothcraft 20Leathercraft and 30Smithing. The item I would like to make caps at 96Clothcraft, 35Leathercraft, and 35Smithing. I would like to skillup off of breaks on this item. Would I be able to get skillup as I am right now, or is my Leathercraft so far below that neither clothcraft nor smithing can obtain skillup? Thanks.

Yeah that's a little too low. The "ideal" skill up for any craft is 5-7 levels difference. 6-7 you should use some guild image support but at that high I'd make it 3-5 personally.

You may be able to simply break synth on that sort of gap. May wanna look into that, I could be wrong though.

Yeah, ditto. Like with Leathercraft I just blazed from lvl 11 to 21 with a really cheap skill up. Used advance for +3 and took a few breaks but eventually got me to 21.

Yrah I just found out on my own. I was purposely wanting to be where I can skillup but not successfull synth any of them. Wroked out great, I couldn't do it where I was (Beyond current skill), but after trading in the Guild item I was able to synth it. Very good method for 95-96Cloth.

Looks like they were trying to make, Yasha Hakama, to me.

Generally I like to be ~3-4 or so on the skill range after all +'s and -'s have been factored in. With a sub-craft, I'd probably go as high as a 5 lvl gap.

well i just did leather from 51 too 60 with a cap of 61 so if the materials are easy enough to farm them then you can just skip the hole level with one synthesis. but it's all up to you if the items are more expensive I tend not to go above 3~4 levels but I like to go as far as I can at one time.
For example with leathercraft I will go up to 10 levels away with ram hides because they drop so easy but it's all up to how you feel about the time it takes to either make the gil to buy the raw items or the time it takes to farm the items.

I agree with just about every person on here, depending on day and moon phase, 6-8 levels with advanced synthesis support, 4-6 with regular free support, 2-4 with no help and pure grinding. I usually don't cap on a synth if I can help it, moving on to another synth 1-2 levels before cap to keep the skill ups fresh. My personal experience, after so many synths, even with a decent gap, the skill ups become stagnant. I've dubbed it "synthesis familiarization", as I also notice not only do skill ups drop off, but if I'm over cap, I get more frequent HQ's the more I synth the same item. SE hints at this with a guide member commenting on "The more you practice on an item, you'll become better and better" this may have meant just regular skill ups, but could mean more... or I'm just lucky with increasing HQ's.

You cant skill up on breaks if the craft is more than 5 levels below its cap.
