Question: I haven't done the pre-order in-store pickup thing ever since getting burned twice at Gamestop. (Evidently pre-order doesn't guarantee they won't be out of copies by the time you get there.)
So I decided to use Gamestop's pre-order next-day shipping guarantee. They ship it the day before, and it's guaranteed to show up on the street date or your money back. But now I realize... 11/11 is Veteran's Day. Will that kill the shipping? I would assume they'd have realized the problem and yanked the guarantee if they knew there was no shipping on Veteran's Day, but anyone have experience with this particular predicament in the past? Suddenly I feel like:

I have no clue, but Next-Day shipping usually uses FedEx or UPS, and they usually have no problem running on holidays. it's supposed to actually... the people at your store screwed up. Reordering is like reserving.
then again it depends on when you order I think. I know USPS doesn't deliver on holidays but do UPS and Fedex (other?) follow suit? If I had that issue with a gamestop I'd just go to walmart and get it, nobody really remembers that they carry so it's usually pretty dead there. Um, I got the game this morning. Europe(GMT +1). I honestly don't know what's supposedly wrong with the graphics. Absolutely stunning. Just been playing for a few hours, level 5 now. If anyone has any specific questions I can try and answer(if you don't have the game yet).
I did not mean anything bad about the graphics, if that's what you're referring to. I only meant that the graphics are the worst aspect of the game. Meaning everything else even surpasses the graphics in terms of quality.

The only thing I have to go on are ambiguous lines like "Satisfyingly chunky" "Visceral" and "definitely improved from Oblivion". You really feel like you're hitting something now. You can change the angle of contact and it will change the motion, and the "finishing moves" really feel good. :D Unless you're facing a group, then it's just the good old blind swiping again. The magic is really, really nice this time around. The effects are amazing, and the casting animation is fantastic. I've heard Group combat can spell disaster if you're not careful. Try to funnel enemies into narrow passages to face them one on one!
I know the Magic is amazing, we lost spellcraft, but now actually casting looks fun. Just out of curiousity, so I know your frame of reference, What's the best Melee combat game you've ever played (Or second best if Skyrim is your No1). Or in general? in General, ES games always had pretty weak Melee combat. Personally, my No1 is Condemned, which I heard someone compare Skyrim's melee to, which sounds too good to be true, even for my expectations. Everyone always goes on about "ohhhh Dark Souls can make combat seem connective" but that game is a Third Person game, and it's much easier to sell physical impact in that angle since you see your character's more subtle movements that tell your brain "Yeah, you just took a mace to the face" or "Your arm is recoiling off a blocked strike". Definitely either of the Batman games. Superb melee combat. But I don't feel like it's comparable to your example.. so Devil May Cry I suppose.

Comparing Third to First person games really is Apples and Oranges. They have unique challenges and unique assets. I feel First-person games can really suck you in easier than 3rd person games, but it becomes so hard to make it look right. Oblivion and Morrowind all suffer from a sense that you're a disembodied head flying around with arms. I've seen they have a lot more interesting camera effects (Slight head bobbing while sprinting, and angle changes while swinging weapons) so yeah, looking forward to getting my hands on it. Yeah, it's a hard comparison. Comparing Third to First person games really is Apples and Oranges. Although you can argue that Skyrim is third person. Dark Souls isn't a bad example btw, the combat is pretty decent there. Sylph.Beelshamen said: » Odin.Zicdeh said: » Sylph.Beelshamen said: » Definitely either of the Batman games. It's designed for the First-person perspective. Those are the developers words, not mine. My humble conclusion is; The combat has improved amazingly, yet on some occassions it reverts back to Oblivion's soulless hacking. But still, considering the scale of the game and the improvement from Oblivion it's easy to oversee those occassional moments.
Odin.Zicdeh said: » Also, I've heard the game is actually really hard even on Normal Difficulty. It might just be pains from getting Acclimated to the differences though. I know Morrowind seems impossible as *** if you don't know what you're Doing. Are "Those Moments" because you run out of Stamina and don't let it recharge so you can use your special attacks? Been trying to occupy my time with magian trials and it's been a horrible idea so far. :C Can I knock myself out with horse sedatives for a couple of days and not die?
i have school to occupy my time luckily
or unluckily Meh, it's kinda stupid. I've finished most of my classes this semester with only a little to go for the last, and I don't have the option to sign up for a Winter Semester. :C Least I get plenty of time to play Skyrim
Semester ends in like december :(
got a test tomorrow im pretty sure i can get a solid F on I dislike Calc II -_- Yea 6 Dec here, I did my classes online for this semester though to finish a little faster and have a more malleable schedule.
