Jumping and swimming in MMOs is over rated. The only game that I actually liked it in was Perfect World. Why? Because people only jumped to reach areas that they couldn't reach otherwise...unlike my experience with Allods, WoW and Runes of Magic where everyone is fkn bunny hopping like an idiot which just causes more lag and gets nothing accomplished. Now, I like Allods and I love Runes of Magic...but jumping is not always needed. I can see some cases in FFXIV where it could be a convenience, but it is by no means a necessity.
Also, if you really think about it, they were trying to go for a realistic feel with FFXIV. Jumping/swimming/flying in full chainmail would never happen...especially not for a lala

lol, I really want to take a screen shot of that place between Yuhtunga/Yhoatar Jungle and Ifrit's Cauldron. I spent at least 2 hours bitching about it after dying countless times in Cauldron as a level 75 newbie trying to do that sky mission.

Jumping and Swimming isn't realistic?
On another note, I'm all for having a realistic MMO, even if it does fail. I think it'd be cool in a way to play for a little bit. Having to eat and drink to stay alive and only one life for your character.
Maybe kill animals and cook the meat or use some sort of bartering system with other players. Food spoils if not properly kept. You can't carry much of anything on you, but can try to hide it from other people. Carrying too much ***will make you sink in water. etc etc etc

Jumping and Swimming isn't realistic? Not with armor on no. If they put restrictions on it to where you could only jump in light/cloth armor and swim using a new swimming armor, then it wouldn't be bad, but people would still ***. "This isn't like WoW because I can't jump with my 2 ton *** shield equipped!"

Lmao even the site creator is comparing this to WoW and people are giving me grief about my WoW comments what ever 0.o. I guess it depends on what you find attractive about a game. WoW might be fun to a lot of people. Me personally I can't get over the terrible graphics and gameplay others have no problem with it. I hope WoW does it for all the guys switching to WoW but I'm going to stick it out in 14 atleast until the PS3 release Maybe when GW2 or SWTOR drops depending on the state of 14 I might leave idk but I just can't do WoW 8(.

If you couldn't jump in XIV because of some intentional design decision regarding armor realism and gameplay, that'd be fine.
But let's be honest here.
You can't jump because they're using 8 year old crappy tech with bad terrain geometry cohesion, poor clipping QA, and cut huge corners on region construction by making everything a facade only viewable from one angle, let alone from the air. They lock you onto the ground so you won't accidentally see what a half-assed job they did.
It might not matter to you. I mean, I played XI for 6 years and never felt the need to jump or swim. But let's not pretend the reasons are anything more than they are.

While that may be a reason for them not putting it in, I honestly see no reason TO put it in. There are no under water mobs. There are no under water dungeons. There are no castle in the sky (Perfect World reference) There are no trees with treasure chests at the top. There are no secret areas the lead to dungeons full of machine mobs hidden behind the clock of a clock tower. There is none of that so I honestly see no reason to put it in there aside from player convenience, which again, could possibly result in mindless bunny hopping for no reason. Anyone remember when they finally put dance emotes in 11? Jeuno was spammed for a couple of days with nothing but dancing....and that was just an emote..

Wow has people that play from like 12-50 years old so the #'s are going to be crazy. WoW has been a very popular game for years but its not for hard core gamers. WoW is like the Wii bowling game every one plays its almost like a family game. I'm glad FF is not like that I really don't want to play with little kids.

Hard core gamers tend to be younger than casual gamers. By a substantial margin. They're the only ones who have the time.
The median age for MMO players industry-wide is about 24-26. WoW's is 28-31.

The game is easy, imo. I don't find easy to be fun. I like being tortured in games as long as it's rewarding. Due to the game being "easy," they get a lot of players. Now, you can separate WoW and FFXI into 2 different categories with FFXIV somewhere in between.
WoW: relatively easy gameplay with tutorials for everyting and instant rewards. Quests are easy and easily trackable. There is a quest log. Grinding is easily soloable through either quests or just flat grinding for most jobs.
FFXI: difficult gameplay with no tutorials and long term rewards that are earned through weeks-years of work. Quests can be difficult and trivial with little to no explaination. Partying is required to level for most jobs.
FFXIV: a few tutorials with still relatively easy gameplay as far as leveling. Quests are easier than they were in FFXI because they give a NPC name in your quest log to talk to. There IS a quest log. Soloable grinding is possible for any job, but becomes more difficult 20+ for most jobs.
WoW <------FFXIV------> FFXI
So essentially, what we have is WoW on the easy side, FFXI on the difficult side and FFXIV somewhere in the middle. This is where they *** up. You can't have the hardcore players b/c the game is easy, but you can't have casuals usually because it is too difficult at some points. They tried to balance things and ended up making things stupid for both parties involved.

Within the first 30 minutes I had fought a major city battle, held off two NPC invasions, leapt over burning buildings, turned into a werewolf, sabotaged another undead invasion, rescued several families from mortar fire, catapulted myself onto a pirate ship, escaped via horseback, survived an earthquake, sank an entire town and swam/dove to rescue survivors, crashed a merchant caravan, tricked a 50' tall ogre into slaying a massive enemy army, rescued people from crocodiles, drove a tank, held off a wave of undead with mortar fire, flew up to a giant circling zeppelin and blew it out of the sky with an engine fire, and escaped via ship.
I still find it slightly distasteful that I'm playing WoW, but holy ***' jesus -- that is content. And that particular experience is all brand new as of last week! I have never experienced a newbie starter experience so compelling and well done.
By comparison in FFXIV, I got... well, none of that. I got one cutscene and then a few hundred hours of pointless grinding. Hell, the tech is so bad my guy can't even step over a 6" bump in the ground, let alone jump, fly, swim, or drive a tank.
I may not like to admit it, but it's pretty obvious why this game has 12 million active users: it's insanely fun.
Try playing the first races, they are meh quests are meh, repetitive and the same over meh all over, but I remember when I started Death Knight, that was fun. Basically the previous is nothing alike the new races in WoW.

I think I would also like to mention that with Cataclysm release, the game got a lot more challenging after level 80. I come back here to check up on FFXIV hoping for some good news, and I hope the new team will help with improvements. WoW gets you into the action sooner, and I know that a lot of people will disagree with me, but FFXIV is not challenging. A challenge and a time consumption dump are very different. FFXI was challenging, and I liked it. WoW is more challenging than FFXIV, at least right now.

Its obvious you haven't played after the Nov update the UI has been fixed along with other stuff. The game runs very smooth now, we're just waiting for the next update with NM's and stuff. Also 11 is a dinosaur now especially for veteran players it just doesn't do it for us any more we need something new and we hope 14 will eventually give to us. FF11 is only good for new players guys like me who have been playing for atleast 3 years is just sick of the old tech ps2 graphics and old areas with pink tint called abyssea. Honestly it really won't take much to turn this game around just the last update alone with the fixed proves this. They just need to keep at it based on what was released in the up coming update notes and now we have the FF11 development team on 14 I only see a bright future for 14.

Sorry dude lolWoW Cata is pure crap even 11 blows the ***out the water and 14 makes it look like atari...0.o
I've played after the november patch, they removed auto-targeting which subsequently made me NOT want to play again. They also still have laggy battles and UI lag. The UI lag was improved but not eradicated. And graphics don't make a game, the Atari is an awesome machine so comparing Wow to Atari isn't exactly an insult unless you have ADHD and need the newest fanciest graphics available.
Score! :)

This the best 14 news I herd yet I'm sticking with it for sure although I'm not going to play like I did 11 meaning devoting all my free time to it yet, but I'll definitely sticking with it. I can't wait to see what the future brings. But from what it sounds like... the game might not even be "the same" by the time they're done with it. This could mean character wipes? Not saying it absolutely WILL happen, but I wouldn't rule it out as impossible.
Na I don't see this happening they are encouraging people to keep playing that's why the sub is free and they are continuing with updates. This is not beta people still purchased the game initially just the sub is free atm. If they wiped characters they would loose all the players they currently have in turn the game fails and they would loose so wipes is not happening. They still need us to play or else they would not be continuing updates and free subs ect...they are doing this so people will continue to play through the bull ***. If every one quits now and waits until the ps3 its game over and the end of 14 no ps3 release or nothing. Well they already lost me. If I could get a refund for the game I purchased I would. I've told everyone who has ever asked me about FFXIV that the graphics are spectacular... and... that's... about... it..., not to buy it.
I also wanted to start early, get a head start on everyone and be max level for endgame. An endgame that never was implemented and doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon. The game play was so horrendous that even playing for "free" (I still paid $50 for this) isn't worth my time. If they reinvent the entire game it would only seems fair to people who have quit and people who have not bought the game that they restart everyone at a "relaunch" of the game. Especially if the entire game mechanics have changed to the point where its a completely different game. However, I do see how the loyal fans who have convinced themselves into continuing playing would be upset about it.
I don't know, I guess I can't see anyone ever playing FFXIV for any length of time. The adventure, exploration, fun and magic just isn't there. It was only after the "newness" of the game wore off that I saw this and decided enough was enough. Apparently a lot of people feel the same way and SE has publicly acknowledged this. For this I am grateful.
I want to see FFXIV be a worthy successor to XI and the Final Fantasy series in general. I hope they can make this game into what it should have been, no matter how long it takes them. I just won't lie to myself and pretend that this game is worth playing until that day arrives.
I agree with this completely. In my opinion, this game just isn't fun. ._. I was one of the first people to level my character to the 30+ range and one day I said, "this is such a chore". Playing just for the sake of "getting ahead" is really no fun; there isn't any endgame now anyway and it will be some time before they have it ready. No point.
But hey, to each his own, and FF fanboys and girls will do what they want and keep backing the game. That's fine too, but for the majority that feel this game is not good, we're going to hold back until they release a game worth the time we spend on it.

Because people like to piss and moan people are going to complain even if the game was perfect. Every time a new update comes out for 11 every one QQ's but they still play it just how some are. Now every one is riding the WoW *** but you go tell them to play WoW if they don't like 14 they QQ and say..... Lakshmi.Hypnotizd said:

Hope? haha, it was lost a long ..long time ago. Different teams worked on 14 than those that worked on 11...so there was no transfer of knowledge. Your first point holds no water. Now, however, the 14 team has a lot more people from 11, so if it isn't fixed to a decent degree soon, maybe you will have an argument lol.

LOL @ sweatshops in china, people in sweatshops aren't smart enough to design games they make stuff like sneakers and clothing products unless your mean they were the ones's pressing up the DVD's then maybe.
edit: no one really know what the dev team is doing unless your on the dev team, honestly there might have or have not been a transfer of knowledge. They aren't starting from scratch so there must still be some original members from 14 still on there or they are going to follow the original plan just add their own flavor to it.

I guess you never herd of Foxconn either they manufacture electronic products like computer chips or mobo's and ***ipods, iphones maybe computer parts all this fall in line with a sweat shop/assembly line work but they don't design games its totally different closest thing you'll get to a sweatshop in mmo's are chinese gil farmers. But the sweat shop thing was a joke I doubt he was being serious.
