Games usually are fun at the start! In fact my most fun moments in MMO are being a "newb". Getting abilities for the first time, exploring stuff, randomly dying to super hard mobs that I have no idea what they are...hehe. In the start of FFXI I had so much fun, everything was so new and exciting when I first started! Getting my WHM AF1 set..haha I loved it. Same thing with Aion...
I suppose I had a similar feeling with XIV but after about 10 minutes of starting I was like okay...what is there to do...>.> Did some leve and then stood around wondering what to do next. I still play and I still will..it just doesn't have the "oomph" all the other MMO did for me ; ; I hope someday soon it will~
i'm enjoying myself and aion was not so much fun at start -.- that ***sucked. WoW thatshit not fun today and that saying something. The fact that you playing a game that is free and which you can just log on a day and do your leves, and rank up your craft are not that bad and don't know what bugs, lag you talking about cuz sense nov update i'm good the only lag iget is due to my low pc lol.
If the game isn't fun due to lag, glitches and the game system being bad in general I'm not going to play it. XI wasn't exactly riveting to level up in, but at least I didn't get a huge amount of bugs.
Its obvious you haven't played after the Nov update the UI has been fixed along with other stuff. The game runs very smooth now, we're just waiting for the next update with NM's and stuff. Also 11 is a dinosaur now especially for veteran players it just doesn't do it for us any more we need something new and we hope 14 will eventually give to us. FF11 is only good for new players guys like me who have been playing for atleast 3 years is just sick of the old tech ps2 graphics and old areas with pink tint called abyssea. Honestly it really won't take much to turn this game around just the last update alone with the fixed proves this. They just need to keep at it based on what was released in the up coming update notes and now we have the FF11 development team on 14 I only see a bright future for 14.

The new management is probably already working on the first expansion for XIV ... WOTG style! Making a half finished story line then re-selling/adding on to it with the 2nd expansion

I've played after the november patch, they removed auto-targeting which subsequently made me NOT want to play again. They also still have laggy battles and UI lag. The UI lag was improved but not eradicated. And graphics don't make a game, the Atari is an awesome machine so comparing Wow to Atari isn't exactly an insult unless you have ADHD and need the newest fanciest graphics available.

Everyone agrees the lag is still there. It's not everyone's systems when it's network lag.
I'm sorry, I'm just not willing to accept all the ***SE shovels onto my plate. If there's something majorly wrong with a game I will point it out.

Where is the "everyone" you talk about lol there is no IU lag man stop spitting bs just to try to prove a point...I just did leves with like 10 members and there was no battle lag. The game only lag sometimes in city's and wards because its so many people there at one time and its stll way less lag than how 11 is in its citys . I'm running a I5 quad core and I have no UI or battle lag.. People have even made videos on here proving this so gtfo with that bs. Go jump on your atari and play some WoW.

Firstly it's 'UI' it stands for "User Interface" and secondly yes there is. Even Square Enix have promised another improvement in December, so if there's no UI lag why are SE promising a fix? Same for battle lag.
And I'd prefer to play my Atari than XIV in its current state. Maybe you like no content, laggy games but I sure don't.

The videos made have only shown that the lag has lessened (which it has), but a lot of the menus are still way slower than they should be. Selling items and the retainer menus in particular are god-awful, whether there are a lot of people around or not.
Crafting is definitely much better, I'll give you that, but even it could be faster. Just because YOU can personally tolerate the current menu speed doesn't mean there isn't a ton of room for improvement.

Just thought I'd say bad UI =/= lack of content. Granted there is NO content for ffxiv, but I run it on a laptop with minimum specs and pre patch it would take me *at least* a mintute to go through the menu and select/use actions, etc, but after patch, everything works as it should, at least for me. SE are further improving UI to make it the "best" it can be. Whether that happens, we will see after the 2 patches this month.
EDIT: Some people are going on about it still taking them a while to sell to NPCs, I haven't noticed this problem, am I doing it wrong? (or maybe even right) :s

It has both issues. Lag and lack of content. At the end of the day I payed £50 for a non complete game. Effectively with the new management we're back in beta again. I didn't buy a beta. If this wasn't a final fantasy game that ***wouldn't fly.

Oh don't get me wrong, I think the game is way better than it was a month ago, but still not up to the standards I would like imo.

I can agree that the game doesnt have enough content to float oil right now, but I was under the impression that the issue you were responding to here was UI lag.

So it went from unbearably laggy to laggy? In what like 3 months?
I don't play Wow, but it would be far more fun than what XIV is right now. An improvement doesn't mean total eradication of the problem. There's still a lag problem and I'll still complain about it.

Both are issues, Lag more so. Specifically battle lag.
UI lag is much better then before. But the game still suffer from lag. Can be machine fault too in some case, but now say that is all machine fault I find it exaggerate. If SE say they fix the lag, mean they know there's something that might doesn't work properly. Who have play since Alpha Test like me know, how many time SE was fixing the lag. I think for that need a little patience. And stop with this WoW, even because if people like play WoW is their choose, they could same the same thing "why ppl play shitty FFXI" for example. I don't know why people fight other people pointing at WoW. WoW to me is not the only to suck (for me of course) as MMO. Everyone have different taste. I don't like it, I quitted WoW after 1 day. Never will play it. But anyway we went off-topic. I doesn't know much well this new team, so the only thing I can do is wait and trust them, maybe play FFXIV a little and play FFXI with friends.
Unmei, seriously, stop with the "go play wow" ***. It's not funny and just makes you look like a 13 year old that can't come up with any real response. Unless you are 13... in that case: proceed.

What ever calling me a fan boy don't matter cause I'm not willing to go along with the bandwagon bash bs. Opinion's are like *** every one has one. This game is compared to wow all th time by many people in various threads so my response is go play that crap If you don't like 14. Point is IMO there is no real ui lag and if there is a very small amount that's barely noticeable. But at the end of the day I can post my ideas just like you can...flion is a master exaggerator agree with him if ya want I choose not to.

There alway going to be lag :) if you live Far from Japan. In ffxi there was a easy 250+Ping lag which is ok for the type of game. Now wow it hard to play with anything higher then 100ping. But i'll agree with you stop compared it to wow -.- Don't like ffxiv quit why are most ppl still playing and bitching it make no sense.
Within the first 30 minutes I had fought a major city battle, held off two NPC invasions, leapt over burning buildings, turned into a werewolf, sabotaged another undead invasion, rescued several families from mortar fire, catapulted myself onto a pirate ship, escaped via horseback, survived an earthquake, sank an entire town and swam/dove to rescue survivors, crashed a merchant caravan, tricked a 50' tall ogre into slaying a massive enemy army, rescued people from crocodiles, drove a tank, held off a wave of undead with mortar fire, flew up to a giant circling zeppelin and blew it out of the sky with an engine fire, and escaped via ship.
I still find it slightly distasteful that I'm playing WoW, but holy ***' jesus -- that is content. And that particular experience is all brand new as of last week! I have never experienced a newbie starter experience so compelling and well done.
By comparison in FFXIV, I got... well, none of that. I got one cutscene and then a few hundred hours of pointless grinding. Hell, the tech is so bad my guy can't even step over a 6" bump in the ground, let alone jump, fly, swim, or drive a tank.
I may not like to admit it, but it's pretty obvious why this game has 12 million active users: it's insanely fun.

It's fun but you get bored of it mad quick wow players are getting bored why you think they down to 12mil? It's a waste of time and $ to play wow.
jumping is dumb swiming is also dumb there no point in jumping. I never got the point of that but w/e wow for me is lame and i get bored of it too soon. FFXIV have noting and i still play hours a day.

It's not down to 12 million. It's up from 9 million, just in the last few months.
But do the numbers really matter?
The fact is, I haven't had this much fun in an MMO in 10+ years. I've done nothing but quests so far... probably well over 300 of them, and they've all been fun. Good and numerous rewards, interesting areas, varied and compelling beastiary, etc.
Yeah, it's distasteful 'cuz I said I'd never play WoW and I hate the art style, but there is no chance in hell I'm going back to grind buggy, boring-*** leves once every 36 hours until I run out of stuff to do. Dunno when that'll be.
