I personally ignore convo shouts but I dont agree with it either.If they wanna look stupid then its their problem not mine.

I see at least a couple people making valid points here. Personally, I agree with the shouts are fine. trying to carry on a conversation with 5 different people (about the same thing) in /tell is silly. Not to mention that it's an MMO because it's not any one person's game. We ALL pay a subscription fee. QQing about 'YOUR' MMO being cluttered with other people who are socialising and then whining about it in a forum on a community site is no better than the shouters you so despise.

I have no problem with people shouting unless it's the kind of people who are doing it just be malicious to other players. Half the point of playing a MMO is to meet and play with and talk to other people. Don't want to be an adult and ignore chat you don't feel like reading? (You don't have to actually read every shout you know...) Then go play some single-player or split-screen games with your like-minded peers.
Everyone is indeed entitled to an opinion. Some other people need to learn to cope with the fact that the world does not involve around them.
In short, grow up. This is everyone's game.

I agree when I used to play I had shout conversations. As was pointed out not everyone is in your linkshell. Sometimes you wanna speak to a few people that are in whitegate and want a group conversation.

Only time I find it annoying, Is when it's people being complete idiots spamming for the sake of spamming.

well spamming you can report, but if somebody is holding a conversation it's best just to /blist or go away if they're bothering you, since it's their place just as much as it is yours

Shout mode has several worthwhile purposes:

1. Advertising a pick-up group for various tasks (Missions, Skill-up parties, Dynamis, Abyssea runs, etc.).
2. Advertising for your linkshell, recruiting new members.
3. Advertising "Mog House blow-out/clean-up" and "I'm quitting FFXI (again)" sales, when a character is liquidating trade-able/bazaar items.
4. Seeking or advertising transportation via Teleport/Warp/Retrace.
5. Certain questions, such as "Anyone seen the Warhorse Footprint?"

And, I'm sorry to anyone who disagrees, this kinda of garbage is just that: garbage. Keep your garbage to yourself. Don't blame others for "not using their chat filters". As noted above, /shout mode has many beneficial uses, and people do not need to turn on shout filter just because you have no life and/or are desperately seeking attention.

I get a chuckle out of those random shouts though. If it's getting people to laugh or smile, I totally do not have a problem with it, nor do I understand at all why anyone does. Like it was mentioned earlier, is it really that hard to ignore?

If there was a way to get everyone in whitegate into one ls and keep them there, telling people to take it to LS would be a viable solution. Unfortunately, it's really not a viable solution, at all.
