Page 3. Keep in mind Heafoc also give 6 attack, so when comparing to Ochiudo's, it's 13 STR vs 14 Attack.
Hmmm must of missed that while skim reading/skipping through, my bad on that :s. With that said With VV/RR/Apoc wouldnt 14 att be better off than 13STR for Fudo (if your not capping ATT)? Of course if your capping ATT, then yeah the STR does reign in victorious.

Depends on you over all str in gear/buffs, the mob you are fighting, say for instance a lv 97 mob with 600 vs a sam with 860-870 attack on ws(non zerk) would make bkotes a 1.8 increase(14att portion). While most sams will have a base damage over 250. Heafoc alone gives you 5 wsc at base, and with other buffs/gear it can give 7wsc.

255/250 = 2% 257/250 = 2.8% 285/280 = 1.7 287/280 = 2.5

As you see with more str in buffs/gear your base damage for your ws rises and as it goes up the increase it once had, diminishes.

Realistically youll never see mitts giving only 5 wsc if anything it will average around 6-7. Also it is unknown, atleast to myself if mobs in abyssea can exceed lv 99/100 if they can then bkotes actually start doing better on beefy mobs without zerk. Probably a mob around lv 105 or so with 500-ish def would play favor to attack orientated gear vs the str alternatives.

Here are some of the Atma's for Tachi: Fudo, you can play around with these and find out what you like best based on what Atma you have currently.

Voracious Violet, Smiting blow, Griffons Claw, Stout Arm, Alpha and Omega.

There are some others but these are ones I would recommend playing around with for WS damage.

Edit: Fudo Is Light/Distortion so yes it can Fudo > Fudo for a single Light Skillchain, as well as Darkness with Rana.

Edit 2: What you cannot do however is Fudo > Fudo > Fudo that does not make a Double Light Skillchain.

fudo > fudo = light

rana > fudo = dark

yuki > gekko > kasha = light > fudo = x2 light

Pretty sure there were a few others, but those are usually what i work with when i go to kill things on sam.

Fudo > Kasha > Rana > Fudo = Darkness

Yuki > Gekko > Fudo > Kasha > Rana > Fudo = Darkness

sigh

voracious violet, razed ruins and apocalypse overall make the best combination, with certain store tp pieces swapped out accordingly to accommodate the regain from voracious violet, in-favor of haste (unkai kabuto +2 swapped out for zelus tiara), and otherwise double attack and attack gear (tactical mantle swapped out for atheling mantle)

after the coming update, the latter will be void, since tactical mantle will be absolutely worthless after it, making atheling mantle the full time best tp mantle period

keep in mind though, that atma selection for samurai is absolutely unnecessary to know, simply because you shouldn't be bringing the job to abyssea

Ill have to remember those for when im fudoing about. but we could also take it a step further and offer some other high dmg options

i usually play around with a nin or a war so i can open them up a sc for them to close with their emp ws.

rana > fudo = dark > blade hi = x2 dark

yuki > gekko > kasha = light > ukko's = x2 light.

havent tried these out with any of the other popular emps but im sure there are some cool combos out there.

id also like to note that sam isnt the best job to be taking to anything super important inside abyssea, but we can add a good source of dmg by opening up these sc's for some if not all the big emp crit ws jobs.

five-hit's still openly viable (and overall still the most effective) for samurai inside abyssea, and the point will be driven even further after the update where the only difference between five and six-hit'll be 2% haste and 5% double attack basically, which equates to nearly the same difference back at seventy-five with seven-hit against six-hit pre-usukane sune-ate, which pretty much everyone knows from experience which beat which

This was for Fudo only there was never mention of the "usual" Atma setup, I only listed things that will improve Fudo as which was asked.

Edit: I'm not trying to start anything I'm just pointing out my point earlier.

to use fudo, you need tp

to obtain tp, you need to hit things

the more you hit things, the more you can use fudo

kinda figured this would be coming soon. anywho, im not going to try to defend why anyone would use sam in abyssea. i do so myself cause i like the job in general.

and about what serj said about the using of rr when fudo isnt a crit ws. i pick rr sometimes cause i plan on tping a mob 100% of the time and aftermath is nice when stacked with rr. crit rate alone will also add to how quickly said thing would die. and yes you could bring a mnk nin war or whatever have you to do the job better and or faster, this isnt news to me.

I was just going on the basis of tp overflow and decent damage from tping. More tp overflow will happen after the update if the hasso/zanshin boost is good too. The difference seems so small anyway, just thought currently 6 hit was just above 5 hit inside.

as long as you've got the regain moonshade earring to stack with voracious violet's regain, you can sport both zelus tiara and atheling mantle currently, basically making six and five-hit identical, bar a ring slot, which even then most aren't willing to drop their hp another 100 to support 2% triple attack

thing is though, of course you would want the tp bonus moonshade earring instead if you are a masamune owner, and once store tp v is implemented, you won't need the regain tick from the earring anymore to support both pieces inside abyssea

with the tp overflow thanks to apocalypse, they are undeniably closer than before, but five-hit's still more consistent in the long run

Which just goes back to "Why are you using sam in abyssea?" =(

Not opposed to it if the situation makes it so they need (only have sam, not nin, or w/e)/can (ya know, when it's for FUN) go sam. But it's still always there.

I agree, Samurai has been my favorite prior to the 10/19/06 update and it's still the most fun DD job in my opinion.

I have a feeling SAM's effectiveness will be revived again by 99 Post-Abyssea Era. It's just a matter of time. Myself and many other SAM enthusiasts are optimistic for the future. The late announcement of the implementation of sTP V trait @ 90 was an overdue and essential element for this revival process.

There's nothing wrong with SAM. It's one of the most powerful DDs outside abyssea (with empyrean/relic). Just because a job doesn't perform as well inside abyssea doesn't mean it needs to be revived. Who gives a ***what you can do inside abyssea. All the NMs are jokes.

wat

If by "all the NMs are jokes" you mean everything can be completed with virtually anything, then you're absolutely right. Guess what? Everything has always been manageable with virtually anything. The question of why you'd deliberately slow down your progress is as relevant as always.

If you want to play SAM for things its not particularly good at because you enjoy doing so, be my guest, but don't argue that it ultimately makes no difference unless you're prepared to defend somebody using THF as their primary DD against an '05 Tiamat. Shittier is shittier, and wasting time is wasting time. WAR, NIN, MNK, and handful of other jobs run circles around SAM inside of Abyssea, no matter how easy the NM is.
