Tidus voice actually makes me want to rip my own ears off. Hell even the game thinks hes a whiny ***, if you listen to the alarm in Al Bhed it sounds like it's repeatedly calling Tidus 'an annoying ***' XD

To give generic reasoning to my answers:

Six simply had an epic setup within it's two dimensional world. It fulfilled the mandates of good RPG by having a well constructed plot with additional side stories to tie up loose ends (that wasns't on a superficial level) while giving a degree of free exploration along with a brilliant cast of characters each with their own unique and individual complexes and personalities that grew and matured as the story went on. All put together with a functional and simple battle system, fantastic musical score, and a villain that delved into our psyche by being one of the few that had no definite purpose or motivation other than being a truly insane madman that wanted to see everyone burn. The ending was also bittersweet but left a warm and nostalgic sensation in your heart, thus in a way adding replay value to a genre that suffers in that department. Truly a masterpiece.

Ten however seemed to abandon the greatness of substance and detail for details on a superficial level. Graphics and voice overs. Yeah it looked pretty and the people talked, but the plot was mediocre and extremely linear, there was no world map or any sense of exploration and any loose ends or side stories were wrapped up in the most shallow and boring manner possible. Not to mention the characters felt like empty shells that were forced upon false emotion like it was on a cue card (Twilight anyone?), not to mention the only hope to save the story was a completely predictable twist that gave no surprise and no deliverance to a reasonable conclusion (They just had to make a sequel -.-)

tl;dr I like my simplistic turn based battles, being able to explore the world, discover fragments of the story and put them together on a realistic level with characters that feel like real people as they progress through the game rather than flashy eye candy with an empty shell therein.

Disclaimer: This is an opinion. Treat it like one. Flame wars aren't necessary here.

Considering the battle system is over 50% of a Final Fantasy game, I rank it based on that. And the enjoyment I feel when exploring and killing ***.

******

In this sense..
FFVII - My favorite battle system. The characters themselves aren't all that different other than the limit breaks, so you can slap on and play with materia all day. Over-the-top summons, sweet spells and animations, and just some great fun when playing with materia combinations. The other games were limited in this sense. Each character had their own special ***they did, and if you didn't like them you would just have to deal with it cause they ended up being the best at it.

They push the game with the story early on, but let the game become more open once you leave Midgar. This was a nice breather for me and I still knew there was a path ahead.

*********

FF1 was good. Played and beaten it probably 15+ times. Not too linear and good combat. Being able to choose your party set up gives it a lot of leeway to be fun though, and adds a substantial amount to the re-playability.

FF4 was amazzzzing. And it obviously paved the way for them to be bold enough in FF7 to kill off one of the main characters. Nearly constantly open world, and a compelling story. You never knew when you'd lose a character! Changing Cecil's job from Dark Knight to Paladin?! Killing off character after character, and making Kain backstab you like 30 times. This comes very close to being my favorite if FF7 wasn't already there(It was my favorite until I played through most of 7 and blew my load all over the materia system).

FF6, in comparison to FF7, was great because it was almost constantly open for you to do what you want, but there was still a story that you could follow when you felt that you wanted to.

FF8's magic system was *** painful. I had no fun in the boss battles, because you'd get them weak, and then just sit there "Draw'ing" on them forever.

FF9 was fun, but kind of felt too linear for me as well. Not to mention the increased encounter rate in comparison to all the other games. This drove me nuts, it's like they made the world smaller and justified it by making encounters occur more closely together.

FFX, in contrast to FF7, was constantly linear. There was no wide-*** open area that you could explore. You went from one place to the next, and that's the way it was. Summons were fun, graphics were amazing, but it just didn't seem like I had a choice, so that made it kind of lame.

Worst game is X-2. Friend rented it and I played for a bit, couldn't stand it. Watched him beat the game though.

Agreed. I played through FF10 a couple times. And I remember saying to myself at the end of the first playthrough.. "Wow.. I don't even like these characters."

Wakka is too over-the-top cheery.
Tidus is too whiny. (Even though he's the only one I could really feel for, since he's the only one with any depth.)
Aurun was cool at first, but they never seemed to give him any depth.
Khimari... there is no depth.
Yuna.. I never liked her. It's ok for her to not voice her opinion that much, but her constant frailty just drove me nuts. They tried to contrast that with the mage chick, but I hated her even worse.

Others aren't really even worth mentioning(don't know why I mentioned Khimari).

haha, I liked it.

But honestly, Cloud acted like he was a badass for 90% of the game. He only got emo for the 10%(if not less) when he was in the lifestream with Tifa. And after he "found himself", he was basically just a more humble version of his former self. I dunno, finding out that you aren't even who you think you are is a pretty cool plot twist. Cool enough for them to re-use it in FFX.

I'll agree that Vincent was a DRK though...

Not counting the MMO ones as main series, I'd say 2 is the worst and the best... eh, 7 had the nostalgia factor for me and was my first so I'm probably overrating it. I found 10's story compelling and emotional with incredible music so probably gonna have to say that one.

Didn't like 2 much because the difficulty was way too high, randomised stat growths suck, having to spam the living hell out of spells to get them levelled sucks too, and ugh. Just didn't enjoy that one.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck Yoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooou

Best: II
Worst: None

Each have their niche, now that doesn't mean some of them are over rated as hell, read; VII.

Only reason people even say 6 is to not seem like a ff7 fanboy, you know the same people who hate things that are popular. 6 doesn't hold a candle to those games. Also cause of nostalgia.

Hey I never said 8 was terrible lol I love 8 one of my favs :D

The vein on my forehead is almost bursting because your are saying that 6 is crap because its 2d... I don't understand how anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together cannot see how magnificent it is. To brandish 6 as being worse than a chocobos dungeon game, I'm sorry just makes you look like and idiot who obviously does not know a good game when you see it, opinions or not.

I've played and short reveiw:
FF tatics Advance - Good game, GBA even...
FF VII - Great game, graphics were 1337 in the day. Didn't like some parts of the story. and Yuffie, that ***.
FF VIII - All time Favorite game, System/storyline was instant win with me.
FF IX - I didn't get far, didnt like a monkey main char.
FF X - First PS2 one, it's graphics were insane. Storyline was okay, battle decent, Hot rikku is hot.
FF XI - Great friends, and Great idiots play on here. infinate playtime.
FF X-2 - First girl leader (that i've played), All girls really. System was great (they got undressed hehe). But overall enjoyed.
Dissidea - Insanely great fighting game, I useally don't play em but this was 100% pure win in my book.
FF XII - This game ended way too soon, characters besides Fran and Boche or whatever sucked. The battle system was very fun. Hunts were cool too.
FF XIII - Graphics are realistic.... I didn't like the story line/battle So i didnt even finish it (iknorite?)
I've played a few nintendo versions too, didnt get far, all the good story lines are on Sony

How *** old are you? 15?

Seriously, compared to current games ya, 2D games look oldschool, but they are.

I have only heard this comment from *** 13-16 year olds on 11 who SWEAR UP AND *** DOWN they had no idea Final fantasy X meant 10 and they also had no idea there was a first one, or let alone wtf a NES is.
