It's been so long since I've used it. But back in the day iirc it had the best search function for items and such. Now with ffxiah tho it's not so important since the search function on this site is pretty top notch. However if you go over to wiki and misspell something you'll notice it has a horrible list of suggestions 95% of the time. Somepage would produce some nice results if you were blindly looking for items.

The site loaded really quick, with good comments on items, good discussions, and had great information on where to obtain stuff, and wasn't loaded with advertisements. Ffxiah.com has taken its place on item look-up department, but still finding information on where items come from, what the recipes are, and any hidden effects and such, isn't as great on ffxiah.com as it was on somepage. So you gotta use wiki, and their horrible engine to look that kind of stuff up, whereas on somepage it was all together.

Somepage was a good hybrid to now's FFXIAH.com and wiki's site.

yea same reason. ^^^ I actually went to the site for a quick bit, thought i had one of those "internal virus" where you hear media, but yet, no where on the user side is there any media being played...

I instantly shut things down , did a check...

phew... but still

It used to have the most comprehensive and sophisticated in game item database search before this site stepped up to the plate.

You can narrow down your search in margins based on specific attributes and whatnot. It used to be really nice before it got raped by malware.

Before it got raped by malware it hadn't been updated for about a year or more. I know because I too used to use somepage. I liked its little table of which foods to use for different levels.

I don't understand at all why companies change ***that customers already like. No, we don't want a new skin, gtfo and add some smarts to the search function, where if we misspell a word, it gives us possible options to what we may have been looking for. I can never spell Whertwhice or whatever the hell it is correctly.

<3 Monobook!

I assume Monobook will still be available after Monaco gets removed? Or is it likely that everything except the "New Wikia Look" will be gone?

(I only skimmed through quickly, but I didn't notice any reference to MonoBook being removed aswell, only reason I ask! =) )

This..

I thought that they had to listen to people's valued input b4 changes had occured. Don't most site that are like this, do something like a trial, and ask for input BEFORE they make changes?

Guess I was wrong.

The new skin wouldn't be quite as bad if they made it a liquid design, rather than a set width. I liked wiki before with its liquid layout on a widescreen monitor, it spread the content out, made it much easier to read. The main content would be 80% of the width of my screen before, now it's less than 50% of the width of my screen. As technology is improving, everyone has better screen resolutions, making liquid designs the way to go. Wikia just took a step backwards in the ways of web standards.

Sorry for the rant. Being a web programmer, this kind of stuff irritates me.

Normally when a company is about to implement changes that they think are better for the interested parties, they test the waters first and listen to everyone's input. Wikia's case is purely self-interest, as their goal is to make the wikis more uniform so they can nab all the credit for the great communities out there. I guess the big fat Wikia logo slapped on the top of each wiki page wasn't enough for them.

As stated in my previous post, for those wishing to migrate to a different host the original wiki will remain. Crazed editors will be racing to keep their statuses intact, ultimately leaving two active sites. I'm sure Wikia has already considered this and it has given them the push to go through with their BS plan.
