Brooder And Blue (!!)'s

Just curious of two things. One: Is it even possible to get the Feet without a set of Blue !!'s? If so, what are the odds. I can solo him fairly quickly, and just want to know if I'm wasting my time, because my spells cast on him don't vary much.

Two: How are Blue !! triggered? Are they set possibilities per mob? I couldn't find the wiki page, and haven't read too much on Blue before :L

Yes it is possible. I went over 1/20, and am like 1/30 overall. But I have friends who are 1/2 or better.

Droprate is pathetic without !! is my point~ Blue is a random non-elemental weaponskill.

Yes; random non-elemental weaponskill. Unsure of the exact WS pool (should be same across all NMs), but it's fairly large.

Ahh thanks. I guess I could take my Antea (low base damage) and melee it a while, and just step back through the pin when I need a break. I'm not the best straight tanker, I'm the first to admit it.

It seems any Physical Weapon skill of a skill level 200 (Or was it 175?) or higher is capable of producing the blue !!.

That narrows it down a little, but not much.

Any physical WS between the skill lvls of 75 and 289.

So for BLU, Vorpal Blade, Savage Blade and Expiacion?

I've triggered it with Spinning Attack (150 H2H) on Ninja in a last-second attempt to get an Unkai Nodowa (of which it dropped that time obviously) before I murdered the thing's face.

My general theory for blue though is: The WSNM WS, and the three prior listed for the combat skill, though there are exceptions (great katana as an example only has two prior to Kasha; same deal with katana).

So example, for scythe, it's spiral hell, cross reaper, guillotine and vorpal scythe.

I've never seen a Nyzul weapon skill, a relic weapon skill, nor a 290-300 weapon skill trigger it before. Oh, and one more thing: Blue, while it increases R/E drops dramatically, does not make them 100% drop guaranteed.

I killed brooder about 14 times before I got the boots to drop. For about 10 or so of those kills I had TH4 and one of the kills with TH4 I had blue !! and it still didn't drop. When I got drop I was on rdm solo with TH atma. The blue trigger we had was from Shark Bite.

I'm 1/2 on the boots and got em when we were killing it as NIN, THF and RDM. We didn't trigger any kind of !!.
The first kill was with RDM, MNK, NIN and BLU.

1/37 Finally dropped! Could not get help to trigger blue !! so I had to pray each kill xD

Patience is definately a must if your looking for this drop.

Blue triggers cannot be triggered by just any physical weapon skill.
It depends on the time of day that you pop the NM. 22:00-06:00 is all blunt WS, 06:00-14:00 is all slashing WS, and 14:00-22:00 is all piercing WS! So really if you so happen to be a MNK or have a MNK friend with all H2H, club, and staff weaponskills then you're good to go.

For what it's worth, there's a lot more knowledge about Blue !! triggers now compared to when this thread was written.

The correct Blue !! weakness trigger is determined by the Vana'diel time of day when you pop Brooder.
6:00 until 14:00 is Piercing WS (Archery, Marksmanship, Polearm, Dagger)
14:00 until 22:00 is Slashing WS (Axe, Katana, Sword, Scythe, Great Axe/Sword/Katana)
22:00 until 6:00 is Blunt WS (Hand-2-hand, Club, Staff)

Thus, if you're trying to solo Brooder as BLU, you'd want to pop between 14:00 and 22:00, giving you a 13% chance to activate Blue !! with Vorpal/Savage Blade. Or, if you have club skill leveled, 22:00 - 6:00 for a 20% chance with Skullbreaker/Judgment/True Strike. If you complete the quest for Black Halo, solo BLU can have a 27% chance for Blue !! during blunt hours.
