So Carbuncle sucks, any good servers out there?
By Shadowkat 2010-09-21 22:55:46
Thanks for all the input, this helps a lot! I got a few ideas where I might could move to if I indeed decide to move. I'll respond to a few of your posts generally... For trying to work with japanese... I've tried auto translate. I say <excuse me...> <please> <thank you> then ask what zone they are doing for abyssea or whatever the question is. Every single time I was ignored or told in perfect english that I was not welcome. "We don't want your kind. <English> <No Thanks.>" That was my first welcome to this server when I tried to play with others lol. I have talked to many people on this server and they tell me that's just how it is here. Sure I can snuggle up with the LS I'm in, but I'm too used to having random fun with shouts in whitegate as well.
I'm not looking for the magic server, just one that isn't like this. I have come from Asura also, my only friends that had continued the game had moved from there a long time ago. Asura has it's own problems and I'm not looking to go back there. Most of my friends went to Carbuncle but I can't for the life of me figure out why. They aren't even playing that much anymore so I don't want to be stuck here when it's just not fun anymore.
Also about FF14... I dont' have a nuclear powered PC that can run it lol I play 11 on xbox. Even so from what I hear I won't like it as much. But when it comes out on PS3 I'll give it a go for fun, and by then a lot of bugs will probably be worked out anyway.
And to the latest post, I have no trouble making friends. Been here 2 weeks already got a group I low man stuff with and they're tons of fun. And I love the low population here, that is not the issue. Perhaps it would be possible if I give it some time I can earn some JP trust, and be allowed to come along in things. I've already made friends with Nambypamby who is JPN and says they could get me into some JPN groups and it'd be fun. And I agree, the JPN know how to play darn good, and it's much more fun with people that know what they are doing. But do I want to go through the 6 months of being treated like the ugly duckling to get there? I don't know, I'll have to just decide.

Every server has there share of *** holes and drama, english, japanese, french and german.
Good luck in your hunt OP.

New update, I saw two jpn players shouting for abyssea. I said:
<Excuse me...> <question> <Area> <Where?> <I don't speak any Japanese.> :)
.. oh look I was ignored.
2nd Jpn player shouting for abyssea.. I try:
<Excuse me...> <Hello!> <Area> <Where?> SMN <Do you need it?>
Thought maybe if I didn't mention I don't speak jpn they might respond. Nope, ignored! /Gasp
It's 45 minutes later and they're both still shouting for people btw...

JPs are generally very turned off the the use of *too* much auto-translate. Why not just go with NA anyway then if you can't go with JP?
As for the person who told you "Your kind is not welcome." May I ask the name of them? Most JPs who don't want NA would just say "[English] [No thanks.]" or put "JP ONLY" in their seacom, but that's a little extreme, never seen anyone say something like that.

Because there are zero NA shouts, and I tried making my own last night it was difficult because jpn didn't want to join. A lot of hassle when I already see shouts available.
I really should have written their name down, this was about a week ago I don't remember who it was. And like I said I play on xbox so can't exactly screenshot it. So far I've been ignored 80% of the time, the rest of the time yes they simply say <English> <No Thanks.> Which in itself is rude anyway, how hard is it to say </seacom>2<job> or <lot><everyone> if it's af3 zone. It's not, they're just extremely prejudiced here. On Asura I experienced some of that also, but nothing this bad. English are the minority here, so they are allowed to walk all over us.
So I'm told I'm not using enough polite auto-translate, now you say I'm using too much. Not looking like there's a middle ground here unless I up and magically speak japanese lol. Like I said... "Cool Kids Club" or go home!!

Agreed completely. Never had an issue with Shiva server myself. If you ever do decide come here Shadow lemme know, I'll give you a pearl to the social LS I run. If not Shiva, good luck on your server choice.

I agree with the whole carby suckage. I have been playing on this server (game in act) for little over a year. It's seemed to die down a bit, the current ls I'm in had maybe 5 members max in it. And I've tried to find a ls that is into Abyssea and such, which I've gotten /tells about TGF or w/e which is pretty much an English ls. When I asked the leader about joining, I basically got told that I wasn't welcome and that he was the only thief in the ls. Mind you thf is my only 85 job. XD but yeah I don't see much of the English speaking crowd any different from the JP players. ((360 user as well))

Lol this is pretty funny because this is the LS I'm in. One of the only english LS's I've seen that has a decent amount of members. I like it for the fact it does have skilled players, but yeah TGF doesn't let anyone go thief. I'm also main THF, but I have 7 other jobs that are skilled/well geared so I haven't had an issue. And if I really want to play thf I just get a group of the LS together off event time and run our own low-man. So LS wise my experience has been fine, then again with my job count I never have trouble getting into LS's lol.

I'm confused. In OP you stated you can't find people to play with, but this makes it sound like you have an LS with many (skilled) players, and can get into other LS's easily if you so wish.
Anyway, Ifrit does have that "JPs deathly afraid of NAs in their party/alliance" thing going on. One factor is that the auto-translator is not a good get detailed instructions across (trying using it to explain lights in Abyssea or Limbus lotting rules. lol), but the bigger reason is that they just plain dislike the way the NAs do things.
Whenever an NA lead party break early or someone obviously fake d/c, JPs almost always say things like "How typical of a foreigner (party)" to each other in Japanese. When the party is able to go smoothly for a long time, they tend to say "How (pleasantly) unexpected." Basically, they have very low opinion and expectation of NA groups/players in general--hence they tend to avoid us like the plague.
I suspect it's probably much the same on Carbuncle. lol.

Yeah I totally understand with the fear of partying with gimps and jerks. But I do have a hard time believing that there are no JPN that are that way. But whatever the reason or cause, it's just plain frustrating for me, someone who is actually a skilled player and does not ninja drops or force dc. The fact that I am judged based on a cultural reputation instead of by my own actions. That is called prejudice.
As for auto-translate with lights, it is not hard to say... <magic><death>... <element><weapon skill>... <Magic><death><no thanks>... communication should not be a problem.
I guess I should clarify, I CAN find people to play with. But the prejudice really gets under my skin. And when those few I'm befriended are busy or aren't online, my only other option are those I can join in whitegate. Whether it be their shout or mine, that's the only other option. (I've only seen one english shout since I've been here for any sort of event, so that leaves only japanese people). And so far 100% of the time they've rejected me from joining them or them joining me. That's the issue here.

For exp'ing and merit'ing in pickup groups before Abyssea, I'd say the breakdown for me was something like 70% English-speaking and 30% mixed/JP majority.
Yet, I can count the number of times when JPs probably faked connection lost in one hand--well, two fingers. For NA? lol. Let's just say the level up dings often 'caused' d/c's.
Then, there are those who'd just leave right after getting their level and those who'd invite replacements without even asking how long do the rest of the people want to play. I don't think I've ever even came across one JP player who did either.
Don't even get me started on that NA Abyssea leader who'd set up the alliance then go AFK to leech exp...
Shadowkat said: As for auto-translate with lights, it is not hard to say... <magic><death>... <element><weapon skill>... <Magic><death><no thanks>... communication should not be a problem. Well, if you already know something about lights, that'd make sense. I once tried for 15 minutes with the auto-translator and romaji to make a few JP players go along with pearl light without success. *shrug*
Shadowkat said: I guess I should clarify, I CAN find people to play with. But the prejudice really gets under my skin. That I can understand. I remember one night sending /tell's to ten JP Abyssea shouters, and only got reply back from three or so--and all but one rejected me with "JP only". It was really annoying.
* * *
I did get into one JP Abyssea alliance, though--as BRD. The rules for drops were a bit complicated and I was busy pulling, so I just ignored the loot. When I had to leave, the leader flagged me down and shoved a scroll to me as thanks, knowing that I hadn't taken anything yet.
In general, JPs don't treat foreigners poorly or unfairly--if the foreigner can somehow get into the group.
By the way, I don't think the JP players understand that many NAs see the "JP only" remark as racist. To them, it's a preference for a group where everyone have similar expectations (and "code of conduct"? lol), and where everyone can easily communicate with one another--without the annoying NA mis-behaviors. (One can argue that it is racist anyway, but it really isn't how they see it. *shrug*)
If anything, the JP players think that NA players are racists--many of them understand enough English to know NA players often badmouth and make fun of JP players while in party.
Yeah, cross-cultural communication is difficult.

Caitsith.Shiroi said: Are you american? If so I think you kinda forgot the part where your country nuked a few cities. You can't really blame the japanese population to hold grudge about that. I can read enough Japanese to know that the A-bomb has never been mentioned in conversation while I was in party/alliance with any JP. Their complaints have always been about how the NA players behaved, not about the ancient WWII history.

There are a couple of US. ls's, just a matter of looking for them, mostly by using /search ( sky, limbus, sea, dynamis zones ) if they do not shout, of off the top of my head i know there are a few ( Iceboxx, outlaws, Saiyanknightsls, and hnmls).
check the ls roster or for carbuncle players via ffxiah listings :p it's not rocket science.
just a matter of leaving the JP alone, either way 90% are more than likely to ignore you.
also try to see if they fit your gaming time, i know for sure most of those do evening to late night events just watch out for ls's with rules like currency is for funding ls member relics which translates into slaving for someone else.
So I've been having a rough time finding a place to call home. I've been on a break for a while with FF, recently came back. Most of the people I knew that played had quit, so I decided to move to Carbuncle. A friend said they knew a lot of cool people there so sounded good to me. Turns out SURPRISE, a 99% jpn server means I get to sit on the bench because I wasn't born japanese 'cool kids club'. Every time I try to be friendly or get involved with a jpn group, they ignore me or rudely tell me in perfect english to go away. And that is only when I can guess what the whitegate shouts are saying, they purposefully never use autotranslate to keep anyone but japanese out. And even if the horrible prejudice wasn't the only problem the majority of english players show me why japanese here seem to hate english people. There are maybe 3 main english linkshells, and yes I've made a few friends with ppl that are cool. But overall it's not the friendly atmosphere I'm looking for. The english people here overall seem to be the leftovers that didn't move servers with the rest of NA because they lie and cheat their way through FF anyway, so it's not like they'd make friends no matter where they are LOL.
So would love to know what server isn't horribly overpopulated... horribly underpopulated.. nor has any strange prejudices. Any info appreciated. Thank you!<3
