League of Legends
I've never really gotten the whole doran's stacking unless you need it because you're being zoned or something, over half the time when I b for the first time on a ranged AD its to get like a BF sword, and it normally does well against people who get 2-3 dorans blades
Caitsith.Shiroi said: » Also, about RoA, the trend is now buying Doran's Ring x3 instead if your champion doesn't really need mana (Doesn't apply to ryze/swain etc). It's WAY cheaper and gives you a big edge early game. I normally dont sell my Doran's for Rabadons though unless Im lacking like that amount to get it, but generally when I -B- back I have enough, and I keep my dorans for survivability til I build Rylai's. /does a little dance
Maokai is on sale! I like RoA unless somehow i get fed to hell in the first few minutes >:
Doran's give you more survivability, mana regen, and AP a lot earlier :o
If I'm able to farm well and get an early kill or 2, sometimes I actually rush a rabadon's on Brand and start knocking people down like Garland >.>
Usually RoA first though. that and most of the time in mid i'll get enough gold for something else >.>
And spence the catalyst give you decent sustain so...

Have you ever been in a fight and someone pops a heal that you didn't realize they had? Well try lvling up during a fight with this thing. The catalyst alone is the real deal sealer for its lvl up sustain. If you really get your lasties you will be able to get one by lvl 7'ish depending on if you have exp boosting things. If you can then stay in lane until lvl 12 then profit. Last night I went from lvl 10 to lvl 16'ish as morgana in ranked with just: 2 dorans rings, sorc boots and an ROA. I didn't get a chance to b until I had 6k. I was always at decent hp and mana and just getting stupid farm. I ended that game something like 7/3/9 and 240 minion'ish. Anyway the point is survivability and getting lasties. Even if your opponent b's and comes back with a few items, if they miss lasties and exp they are still behind and lvls add dmg and survivability more than items early game. You can't rely on getting kills to sustain you. Also, yes everything is situational. As I had mentioned, if you b your first time with enough money to buy a very big item, then do it. The problem is its hard to do that. Lets say you go for BF sword first B but you get hit hard and need to b or risk dying with like 100g left. You should not stay with around 100hp unless you have a good way to sustain. The life steal from masteries and dorans will not get you there. A good healer perhaps but that still takes time. You should usually just B instead of risking it, maybe pop off a few abilities to get the rest of the wave but stay safe. Then what if you end up b'ing and still need that last 50g to get the bf sword. You can't wait it out, thats way to long. You can't sell your dorans sword. But you can get the claws, scepter and lvl 1 boots. Most of the time, games tend to fall into this situation. The key is to always come back with something new to bring to the table because otherwise, they just out'ed you out and now the only difference is that they can do it better. Also, wards win games. on first b I either get bf sword or something like a dorans blade and boots and maybe an elixir
depends on how i've been harassed and how im doing in lane Caitsith.Shiroi said: » It depends on the champion, most of them will benefit way more from the MP/5 from doran's than then sustain from cataclyst. RoA wins late game, but Doran's gives a much stronger early game so you'll just end up selling them 1 by 1 to buy better items past 30mins mark. most of the time you still start with a dorans ring before a catalyst. catalyst>stacking dorans. The hp lets you crap all over your opponent if they don't do generally the same thing and on equal ground skill wise (excluding some combinations) A lot of times stacking 1-3 doran blades+wriggles is popular.
Meh, I'm confident the way I build my champs.
No, it's not, Shinobu. you're going to have to give me context as to whats not? the dorans? It was built by the majority of ad carries in the IEM tournament. When people didn't do that situation the announcers would even mention it as an uncommon occurrence.
Doran's + Wriggle's
Maybe a lot has changed since I played, but that's just stupid. honestly, I almost never buy more than 1 dorans blade, but I can see the draw. Most of the time I buy into my bigger items.
HP + armor + AD whats not to love?
That's roughly 3,000 gold on items you're going to end up selling. Inefficient use of gold. Not to mention you don't do any damage.
You gotta keep in mind that high elo play tend to keep to a much longer early game than is typical for my elo and most elos until... well I don't know exactly when. I don't watch a lot of streams of mid elo players lol.
Anyway, the best way to be great at this game (not saying I am, I'm not even close to pro) is to play assuming your opponent is better than you. Play for the top tier if you wanna get there, not adjusting it for what elo you are. In the end though if you get fed you could grab pretty much whatever you want and wreck most games. The meta of it is about reliable results. It's why so many people complained about the crit mastery and so they changed it. High elo players want to go into a fight knowing if they will win, especially early game. It really pisses people off when they are playing for 30 grand only to loose purely because the other team managed to land a crit early game.
Boots are for noods.
