Just post the URL in a status or on the person's wall. It'll hotlink automatically.

^words to ponder. But complaining is so much more fulfilling and makes me feel better about myself.

I personally enjoy connecting with people I otherwise might not have the chance to talk to. It has helped me in college keep in touch and even helped me contact people for group projects. I also have used it on multiple occasions to kind of "get to know" someone a little better without having to quiz them on their life story. Two of my favorite parts of the news feed that I get alot of interesting/funny updates from are 'Geeks are Sexy' and 'G4tv'. All sorts of technology and nerd news from those. I also happened upon a girl who I knew from my high school, which through some chain of events, I proceeded to have 'intimate relationships' with.

On a more serious note, I know my dad has connected with family members he hasn't seen in 20+ years and some of his family has showed him pictures of my great great grandparents who had 15 kids, after they came over to the US from Italy. Not to mention learning about his history and seeing photos of family members he hasn't see in the last 45 years.

Now I'm not saying some of these stupid people don't misuse facebook and make it almost unbareable to read through the news feed. With all of the horrible grammer, more QQing than you can shake a stick at, emo song lyrics from bands you've never heard of, etc. But it does have it's legitimate uses. Uses that I intend to take advantage of. But noone is forcing you to have an account. If you are against having your personal info online, please be my guest and don't be a part of it.

Another random rant:

A friend of mine posted a status about a girl who posted a fully nude picture of herself (the girl, not my friend).
She goes on about how inappropriate it is and whatnot.

Now, note that my friend has a really short skirt on and is barely covering her nipples in her own default picture (topless).

I wanted to choke herrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Sometimes I wonder if the world is really ready for facebook. There's still many problems with privacy, and people who openly shared there views about things, I recall many stories this year about people losing their jobs from whats posted on their facebook page.

And no amount of privacy stops any type of criminal investigation on a person, a facebook page is a great tool for creating a criminal profile on a suspect. What better way to determine the mental status of a person then to have a pages of materials all ready for your viewing with words from the person's own mouth. You never know what situation you may end up in your life, being your fault or not, but don't risk being prejudged by words read though a screen. You can do a 100 things right and 1 thing wrong, guess what people remember the most?

Did what I did years ago, delete facebook, myspace, etc, because in the end, your real friends and family that care about you will see you in person, and that makes no need for any online material to view.

I'm not quite sure why people are so up in arms about facebook privacy. I mean, doesn't that defeat the purpose of being on a social networking site? You put yourself out there for the sake of open communication with friends/family, and if desired, strangers too.

I mean can you honestly sign up for facebook and NOT expect to get random *** you didn't want?

It's like suing an eating contest organizer for choking.

If you're smart on the internet, that wouldn't be an issue. I don't post anything that would potentially get me arrested (except my name, hur hur) and I keep family stuff private.

Common sense is the best form of privacy on the internets.

Well, most of her friends are probably young so deleting them from facebook would be the end of the world to them.
As much as it makes me sound like a crotchety, condescending ***, I've noticed the quantity of inane chatter on Facebook seems to be inversely related to age. Most of the folks that I have friended are professional contacts in their mid-late twenties or thirties, and none of them pull that attention-demanding *** of "I'm sad but won't say why" or "Let me tell you the flavor of cream cheese I had on my bagel this morning and expect you to care."

I think with age generally comes an understanding of what's important enough to demand other people's time to read about, and what isn't. It's the difference between realizing when you post, you're requesting people's time to give a ***, as opposed to the implicit self-centered assumption that people must give a ***.

It could also be that as you get older, you end up with more control over the people you can choose to associate with. When you're younger, and your pool of possible friends is generally set up for you by nature of being forced to see them every day at school, it's more difficult to be selective.

I agree with all of this. If you don't want your info out there don't be a part of it.

I don't know about some people. But in the past I've had all 3 of my best friends living 3+ hours away, 2 of which were in different states. One is going in the army soon as well. And Not all of us have our "real friends" living down the street like we did when we were kids. Some also have money problems so a cellphone isn't always an option. But they may be able to get on a computer (not necessarily their own) once in a while to at least keep friends and family members in the loop with how they are doing.

That's fine you aren't a part of any social networking sites. But such one sided advice is very closed minded. Not everyone has the same needs or opportunities. Not everyone uses those types of websites for insignificant purposes, such as complaining that they did not like their breakfast that morning.

The reason people are upset about the privacy on Facebook is that Zuckerberg was not up front with people about what would be published. The "if you don't want it, don't do it" approach only works via informed consent. If you lie to people about what you intend to make public, and you make that info public retroactively without their consent, they can't be held as responsible.

Now this is about the only thing I disagree with about facebook. I think that they should have gone about that in a different way. But for me personally, I don't post anything on there that I wouldn't want my employer, grandma or friend's little sister to see.

I only have like 400 friends, all who are either from here or I've actually met in person. I know my one male friend that just adds any semi-attractive girl. He's up to 4000 now. He posts Gandhi-like statuses just to get attention from all of them to seem like he's the sweetest guy when all he wants to do is stick his pee pee in their poo poos.

You also don't need to delete people. You can just hide their status updates. There's a handful of professional contacts that I need to keep for networking reasons, but who have decided Facebook is a platform for their daily partisan political rants. They're shooting themselves in the foot professionally, because I'm sure 75% of their friends list have blocked them by now, but it's easier to hide them than generate drama by deleting them.

I agree with you Jaerik. I've only deleted one person ever. And that was an ex's ex best friend... Everyone else, including that ex. I just block their status updates, because I have no interest in anything they have to say.

You basicly run a social risk with a stupid silly site like facebook. I have a big privacy concern so all mu tagged ***shows to me only, i publish very little of myself and i try not to add drama queens into my facebook plus the fact that its hidden no one can push add unless i add them. Thats as much privacy you can get and it has worked for me, i think if you dont like it close the account. You can still have some privacy, it depends how you handle your internet life and how much you let people know.

Regardless of the age people will still post immature spam, i think age just picks what kind of spam they post and how frequently... Which is ridiculous to do if you have co workers added. Thats just making a fool out if Yourself. That can also bring problems.
